Hi Guys,

For Itamar re Isopropyl Alcohol:

You should be able to buy it in a chemist. It's not expensive and a small bottle should last you a lifetime.

Don't be tempted to take a sip though - it's probably lethal ;-)

Itamar,

Just go to a chemist (aka pharmacy) and get a fairly big bottle, relatively cheap as it will last for ever.  Whenever I have bought some I have always been asked what I intend to use it for.  Cleaning seems to be an acceptable use.

Steve Hodgson

Guys guys guys!

I dont post to this digest often so I consider myself a 'silent reader'. but I do get a little annoyed seeing other fellow Psioneers squabbling over little issues. Please if you guys want to have a little barny can you do it off digest? Most of us just want to read an informal, friendly source of free knowledge and not a war zone.

Itmar, personally I think you and the team are doing an excellent job and deserve more thanks than you guys / gals get!

A BIG WELL DONE!

End of Grumble

Michael

Hi,

Iso-Propyl Alcohol was an industrial cleanser in my time. It was also known as Iso-Propanol. Most large (British) chemists stock it and I imagine all chemists can get it. We used it copiously but buying it by the quarter or half litre is more realistic domestically - very little is needed, especially for a Psion screen.

It is inflammable, burning with an almost invisible flame. It can be diluted with distilled water NOT tap water.

The macro DrB5Read is on TUCOWS -  EPOC Macros.

Happy days,

Phil.

<< What would a consumer do with an integrated laser barcode scanner, for example?>>

I was going to get one so I could scan the bar codes off my CDs into a database. Then when I was out shopping I could scan the potential purchases to find out if I already had them.  The price of the Walkabouts (?) with then integrated scanner put the kaibosh on this though!

Judging by your choice of holiday destination, I would've thought you enjoyed a bit of cliff-hanging <BG>

Hi Rolf,

I must take exception with your comments here - there are plenty of Psion5's in use beyond 3 years. In fact there are people still using Series3's and older devices.

I also use a 286PC, circa 1990, which is still working fine after 12 years. I mainly use it to backup my Psion these days but it works and I'll continue to use it until it dies.

Now you really should get out and see more of the wonderful scenery instead of sitting in your hotel. 'Message written sitting at the top of Scafell Pike' would be MUCH more impressive <BG>

"updated the PCB on all new netBook products "

"increase the power to the PC card slot allowing use if ISDN and GPRS connectivity."

Spoke to Psion this morning re the newly upgraded netBook. From what I've been reading they've upgraded the motherboard to supply more power to external devices. This is ostensibly to power ISDN and GPRS connectivity cards but I'm guessing would also enable use of PC HDD (eg 2Gb Toshiba) and Nokia cardphones. Also possibility of fitting to Series 7 to enable use of Microdrive in E drive.

Guy in Technical Support initially didn't seem to know what I was on about (!) but after consulting with someone else asked me to ring back in 2-3 weeks as they are "as we speak" considering an upgrade option to existing netBooks to replace the motherboard with the new ones which are being fitted to all new production netBooks from this month.

Upgrade would mean sending machine off to psion but no indication yet of price - going on past experience not expecting it to be cheap though.

I wondered if anyone here has any experience of running PsiLoc+ on am

S7 or netBook.  What's the feedback?  Anyone care to post a mini-

review.

More specifically, someone on usenet recently mentioned a module that

modifies the extrabars.  The website doesn't have a link to that and I

wonder if it's only available to registered users.  Anyone got any info

on that at all, specifically how does it work on the colour machines

with their side-loading bars?

TIA

Rolf, does it read the 'Path' down to the directory or the whole disk tree, even if re-saving a file without closing it?

If it's only the path and not the full tree, then better performance would be achieved by a better organisation of our directories.
