Subject: Solutions for REVO

I would like solutions about the following on my Revo.

1. Is there a manual to the PC Connectivity software that I can printout? What

is the file name?

2. How do I access the 6 archived backups when I want to restore archive #3,

let's say? Is there a way to have more than 6 archived backups?

3. How do I keep the Jotter list view from going to all the way to end of the

alphabet whenever I switch out and then back into the Jotter?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Handspring Visor Neo - Sooner or later we will all get to that point, so I thinkt it would be a good idea if you could report back to us after some weeks with your impressions of this machine and how it compares with the Psion you were used to, and how _you_ manage with the differences.

Subject: Netbook Error

This morning when I tried to open a sheet file with my NetBook I got the dreaded "Kern Exec, Reason Number 3" error and it would not open. In fact, none of my sheets or data files would open. Word files, however, did open as usual.  I first tried a soft reset with no luck.  A hard reset and restore did correct the problem.  My NetBook is a 64 MB one with most of my files on a compact flash in D Drive. Last August I upgraded the operating system.

Has anyone had this happen to them and does anyone know how it could be prevented?  Thanks,

Tony Cabot

Tesco.com (or Tesco.co.uk) still have them on their on-line

catalogue, at £79.99 (~105Euro), or did have four weeks ago.

Subject: netBook vs. 7

Actually, Itamar, (and others looking for netBooks) I purchased mine on ebay in November 2001 for $500, plus shipping.  It included the docking station and a CF reader for the PC.  Of course since then I have purchased an extra battery, an extra mains adapter, a car power supply, and a couple of 256MB CFs so I have probably spent as much as the netBook cost. The modem was left over from the 5mx.

Subject: S7 "E" drive (more wishes)

I've just remembered a few more Christmas wishes for my S7 (not neccessarily requiring use of drive "E" but never mind!)

1 A way of importing scanned documents without the need to go near a PC.  I wish someone would make a scanner where you could simply slot in a CF and load the image onto that, then just pop the CF into the S7 and load it in.  Or even a scanner with a cable that slots into a PC card slot (with ER5 drivers of course) to allow direct importing of scans.

2 The ability to view compressed video files.  My 9210 impresses people in many ways but a gauranteed way to make their jaws drop is to play them a .nim video file.  What a great thing to be able to view something like this on the larger S7 screen.  The 9210 already makes ultra portable video presentations a reality but I'd like this ability on my S7 too.

3 The EPOC o/s is wonderful for productivity but as the saying goes "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" rings true. so with the Psion's extremely limited multimedia capabilities there isn't a lot of scope for listening to music to ward off any dullness.  Yes, I know someone will say "get yourself a Pocket PC then!" but I don't want to carry around a raft of different devices for different jobs.  So I'd like Santa to give me a reasonable multimedia application on my S7, along with a stereo headphone jack - to make a music lover like me a very happy bunny.  Just imagine how many Mp3s you could store on a 1GB Microdrive :-)

4 Finally (grovelling to Santa now) - built-in Bluetooth.  Time to hang the stocking out.

<Another point is that .SIS files for maps changed.  They have a new proprietary file format that is similar to .ZIP files.  The .SIS file is held within their new file and placed in a Windows temp directory while installing, then gets deleted.  It's been said that the .SIS file can be recovered, but so far I've not had any luck.  Makes it difficult/impossible to install by running on a Psion.>

Presumably this is to stop people distributing multiple copies perhaps?  i.e. it MUST be installed directly from the PC intentionally.  In any case, a right pain as I'll have to get to a PC every time I want to install (or re-install it at some future date).  Drat and bother.

Subject: Series 7: ideas for using the"E"drive ?

<I have enjoyed using a Series 7 for more than a year. I have a 128MB Sandisk CF card in the "D" drive (left side), but have never once used the "E" drive (right side). Seeing as x-mas is approaching, I thought maybe I'd pep up the Series 7 by getting something for the "E" drive. What kind of accessories can be used with the "E" drive? I'm only aware that IBM microdrives don't work..... what kind of cards/accessories DO work? >

My own configuration is a 1Gb Microdrive in "D" and I keep "E" free just for plugging in a CF (in a PC card adaptor) for backing up the whole works occasionally.  I also use "E" for transferring my digital snaps directly from my CF digital camera.  I'm also thinking of getting an adaptor to allow use of a MMC (to allow simple backups of my Nokia 9210 to my S7 "D").  But what I really, really want is for someone to write EPOC drivers for Bluetooth so we can all enable our S7s spare "E" drive with the suitably equipped CF hardware to free us from cables and IR line of sight requirements.  Let's hope Santa is listening!

Subject: re:email crashing on sending larger mail via Mobile

<Solved the problem when I realised I had about 60 emails in the sent box - remembered reading somewhere that this could cause trouble -  by deleting them, I guess it made the program run too slow or something.>

I'm glad you've solved the problem Mark but I'm surprised so few emails in your sent folder could cause your trouble.  I remember when I first got my S5 Classic, I allowed the Email folders to gradually fill up to bursting point but I was up to over 1200 messages before the thing finally ground to a halt!  Using "C" (internal RAM) instead of "D" (external flash) speeded things up considerably but even that gave up (unsurprisingly) after a while.  In those days, excellent archiving software we have today such as MailArc or SaveMail just wasn't available.  Today, I use "C" on my S7 (32Mb RAM) for mail storage and I clear out the folders when I get to around 150 to 200 emails sitting there.  One thing that slightly concerns me is there doesn't seem to be any email archiving software for the ER6 program on my Nokia 9210.  As this seems to have the same filing structure as ER5 will this mean I will eventually have the same problem on this machine as I once did with my S5 Classic - anyone?

Subject: Rumour control

Any rumours of a slimmer, sexier, Bluetooth, GPRS and more RAM-enabled Communicator seem to have died a quiet death.  I can't find anything about it on the Nokia site.  Anyone know if it is still on the cards?

Jason, could you give a little more info? What are the paths of your

backup and the emulator's folder it looks at. And what have you

written in your C:\Epoc32\Data\Epoc.ini file?

As I sent on 25th October 2002:

Just to let you know that on Tuesday 22nd October in the London Evening Standard newspaper there was the following (from a page about surfing the web from the bath etc. - now easier because of wireless access meaning no cables):

"...And the Psion is back - with a wireless card for its classy, leatherbound netBook hand-held computer.  Great for people who work on the move - the netBook is solid, with a battery that lasts for days rather than minutes.

Psion netBook: £800 (01494 450666 www.psion.com)"

I did have a go at checking this out on the webpage, but gave up as I wasn't sure what I was looking for; sorry!

All the best,

Hi everyone

I acquired a Psion 7 off of ebay for a reasonable price and have enjoyed it very much. It is finally where I want it in terms of programs and storage. I have a 128mb sandisk CF card and scan card reader to back it up as needed. I Job coach/job develop for disabled adults. I use my Psion 7 for casenotes and job developing notes. I have found the data program awesome and easy to use. The other programs that I really like are mobipocket, epoc word which I use for school, opera 5.14 even with its quircks, the e-mail program, PDF+, 5FX a great photo editor, sketch, tom tom's map program, and program that is used with the pocket reader scanner. I use the psion infrared modem which works great. If anyone coming the to the united states for travel is looking for a compatible internet  service www.garbersoft.net. they are an isp but they allow anyone to use any type of machine or software and do not have a proprietory dialup like big names such as american online. they are nation wide.

I do have a question I attempted to use dighandler on the digest and received the message this is not a digest I do not know what i did wrong could someone explain to me how to use this digest with dighandler
