Taking you up on the invitation peter. Just to say I am out here and appreciate the support and community of Psion. Happy New year and psioning, Maybe Psanta will bring some new goodies and stimulate the psion community more, there are rumours of new netbook - now that would be good new year though I admit to being very happy with my current netbook and revo solution.
Kind regards

I just brought citymaps from Clove and have returned it as the one they sent was not 2003 as I had expected - they will be getting it in early Jan they say, though I note widget already have it - I am concerned to hear what you day as I do not own or have easy access to a PC, in effect are you saying I would be better off with the older version which WILL allow me to store all the maps etc on a microdrive or large CF?

Owen thanks for those suggestions, I never would have thought of this use for my digital camera which I hardly use, these ideas make it a much more useful tool, more like a dictaphone of pictures. Anyone else got any good uses for a digital camera, other than pictures of the dog etc.

Yes , I know the rumors , but it appears this will go the same way as the
ill-fated ODIN project
I have also read ( on the Symbian.info Net site ) and heard ( in the
Aktuellt current affairs magazine on Radio Vega ) about a successorto the
92** series -even a typenumber was quoted !- but after that Nokia
introduced the 68** series as being the successor and nothing was heard
about a "real" successor for the Communicator
So unless a production model based on the prototypes shown to insiders
appears on the store shelves , the 68** is the next business phone from
Nokia with a full keyboard
>>Ahum... one of those "Symbian is dying" days again, Arent? <BG><<
No , it is not "Symbian is dying" but Symbian becoming totally invisible
for both the application developer and the end user as it is completely
buried underneath .Net and Java
The best we can currently hope for is GPRS and Bluetooth on the 9210/9290
through (third-party) add-on modules in much the same way as GPS now

Yes, in the "netPad" section of the developers area on the Psion Teklogix website (if you can find it!) If you cannot manage to get it from there, send me a private email as I have a copy.

The most active ones are:
comp.sys.psion.apps
comp.sys.psion.comm
comp.sys.psion.misc
comp.sys.psion (less active than the first three)
Also have a look at the Psion Place message boards which are now possibly one of the most active discussion areas on the 'net, though as one of the moderators I may be slightly biased :-)

Well is was just that : Rumours , the sad reality is that the successor
will be the 6800 series and that the functionality will in the future
reside on the network rather than in the device ( so the
operators/software vendors can charge monthly/per use charges )
The 9210/9290 will be the last Symbian device with a full keyboard , the
upcoming 3650 and Ericsson's P800 are the last devices capable of running
native Symbian applications , from there it will be J2ME and .Net that

Ahum... one of those "Symbian is dying" days again, Arent? <BG>
The Series 60 devices such as the 7650 have indeed been widely spread and the original 7650 has its succesful follower-up. However, the 9210i WILL be succeeded by another device (forgot the codename... bother...) that will contain GPRS and bluetooth. This information comes from Robert Harmsen at www.symbian.info, the President of the Benelux Symbian Users Association. If I got his message on the web site right, he has already seen the prototypes. There IS still a demand for a powerful business machine with a phone built-in and Nokia knows it. The .NET strategy is not appreciated by business men because that would mean that their own precious data would be on Micro$oft's servers. Not a very good idea of course.
I would like to have Robert's opinion and information on this, therefore I sent the message CC. Operator, can you prevent the EPOC Digest software from blocking Robert's possible answer (he might not be subscribed)?
Yours truly,

Aleck,
There are a number of newsgroups under comp.sys.psion.* and they are
generally pretty friendly and helpful although not as active as they
used to be. The main activity is in comp.sys.psion.apps and
comp.sys.psion.misc with other more specialised groups for comms and
programming.
With regard to help and tips, my own feeling is that many of the old
lags have moved on and perhaps forums such as the digest are now more
active in this area.

He's still there at 16:15 UT (= GMT) on Dec 26 in my Solun - this is the Star Chart view due south for London, but since he appears in the extreme bottom right-hand corner, I'm sure he won't be specific to any particular lat/long or alt/az view.
Presumably he's on his way home ...

Hiya Alan or Andrew, I'm running version 5.2 on a netbook.
Regarding the Alt/Az settings he seems to appear in any of the Star Chart different viewing options, but you'd better be quick as his work is finished tonight!
Seasons greetings,
Will.

Subject: SIS file extraction - Unicode?
Dear all,
Have taken the plunge and am now a proud psion 7 owner. Having a few teething problems though! I don't appear to be able to use some SIS files (e.g. zip files in MBMView.zip). If I use the PC to install them, there is a problem with the version of the extraction prog. referred to as 'Unicode', if I do it on the psion 7, I get the information message 'Access denied'. I had a look on the psion.com site for an update but had no luck. Am I doing something wrong or is there an update out there somewhere? What are the relevant files on the P7 to change? Any help appreciated.
kind regards,
Tom

Oh well, at least we know what's happening now. I was getting to like my 9210 and my frustrations of its hardware limitations was eased by the thought that we could see a new and improved version some time next year. Once my 12 month contract expires on it next June I'll probably go back to my old 8210 and couple it with my ever faithful S7 and go back to the two box solution once again. There is still a lot to be said for the power of the S7 and the extreme portability of the 8210 and the choice one has on whether to take one or two boxes into the shower!

I've been running into a blank wall trying to install software I've downloaded for my Revo+. I've attempted to instal Macro5 and Pocketbank and apparently gotten them onto the Revo. (At least they show up on the "Extra's" bar. But, when I try to run them, I get a message saying "SYSRAM1.OPX. OPX does not exist" - even though SYSRAM1 appears in the OPX folder under SYSTEM in my Revo. I suspect that the SYSRAM1 file simply needs to be moved somewhere appropriate. Bt where? Can someone tell me what I'me doing wrong?

Alan, I note you're a radio ham - would you know if there is any software around for the Psion similar to Hamcomm, or such? I'm interested in any decoding, put more particularly ACARS. I wonder how difficult it would be to write a program in OPL to decode such signals. I have a "Hamcomm" type decoder which should be able to be connected to the serial port of the Psion, but whether the Psion could be made to use its signal is another matter...
