I have used Encrypt -It for a number of years now on a 5, a mx, a Msko and a Netbook.  Great prgram, worth the money.  It is rock stable and I have simpy created shortcuts to the files I want to open often.  From reiews I have rad, it is the most secure of the secure. See http://www.pocketiq.com/home/ tp try and the buy.

Hi Jack and others,

Recent versions of CodeSafe have the option to export the data as "plain text" and/or as "comma-delimited text" compatible with most spreadsheet and database formats.

The version of NDcode available from Pascal Nicolas' Macro5 site is pretty old. You may want to check the most recent version at my website (see below)

Hi Tom,

In my experience to fix this you need to change the file properties of the .SIS file (ie. CTRL-P on the Psion) and remove the "Read Only" flag.

Hi all,

A mate of mine who gives private music lessons has just bought a 5mx to help him manage his student appointments and billing. He wants to automatically search and link appointments (presumably by sur/name) from agenda to a data or spreadsheet file in which he can keep a running total of scheduled lessons and payments received. Can anyone out there help with any suggestions on whether/how this can be acheived?

Digital pictures on a Psion - I have just bought a compact flash digital camera and was wondering if it is possible to open the pictures on my Psion 5mx using the compact flash card from the camera. If anyone has experience with this, please let me know how you do it.

Any good software out there for managing pictures on the psion? I will use my psion to send pictures by email and upload them to my website.

SIEMENS Pocket Reader - I was also wondering if anyone knows where I can get a cheap pen scanner, the Siemens Pocket Reader would be ideal, does anyone know where I could get one? or is there anyone out there who could sell me one? it would be much appreciated. I have looked at the C-pen but it is a bit too expensive at the moment.

Any help on this would be much appreciated,

Hi Andy. From my own experience, I think you could go to your Enroute folder in C (or D):\System\Apps, wherein you should find a file entitled gps.sis; if you open and install the latter, your GPS may then become activated.

Have you installed the 'Positioning System 1.50', as shown in my 5mx's 'Installed programs' list in 'Control panel | Add/remove'?  It's another .SIS file that is installed after RP's .SIS file.  It's what I have called a GPS engine on this digest in another thread.

This may be because you have got a Magellan and not a Garmin.  OK, I'm biased as my first GPS, bought in 1996 and first used with a Psion 3a, was a Garmin 75.  About 18 months ago I added a Garmin eMap.  Much software is written for use with Garmin products as the authors own Garmins and can't test it with a Magellan GPS.  Magellans are know for not working with some software.

Subject: re:  OS X & EPOC (nic b.)

Nic,

First of all, congratulations on using Mac OS X...in my opinion the second greatest computer OS next to EPOC.

The best way of transferring data between the two machines is to use a CF card in your s7 and then upload/download to it via the Mac using an USB CF Card Reader (~$30 USD / I have had wonderful luck using SanDisk CF cards and readers with the Mac).  HTML files can be read using EPOC Web or Opera or you can convert them to another format using nConvert (www.neuon.com).  As for e-mail, you could save the ones to read as a text file of sorts and then transfer to the s7.

As for your printer, I can make no guarantees.  OS X includes somewhere in the neighborhood of 1000 drivers for printers, etc. pre-installed, but it can be somewhat fickle at times if it doesn't have the driver.

You will have to download it from Canon's site (if they have made a driver for an older printer : ) )

Hope this helps.  If you have any further questions about OS X with EPOC, please let me know.

I thought it might be a nice idea if subscribers would describe a certain program they use a lot in more detail for the other subscribers. This could enhance the way we all use our Psions. One day this week I will try to describe how I use Agenda as a business tool to follow up my contacts with my clients, much like the more specifically written follow up programs. Looking forward to reading about your most used program.>>>

Excellent Idea I look forward to reading these, and will think what I can offer, which might be beyond what is obvious at first glance about a program.  Phoneman and email are my main apps but I do not do anything special / exceptional with them, and Backup which does it all itself.

Kind regards

First In-Depth Revieuw of Sony-Ericsson P800

Yes folks , it's up , the first in-depth revieuw of the Ericsson P800 You will find it here ( English language version , a Chinese lang version may be available on the same site ) :

http://www.ocworkbench.com/2003/sonyericsson/p800/p1.htm

to / till och med

http://www.ocworkbench.com/2003/sonyericsson/p800/p7.htm

It is an excellent , concise and in-depth revieuw and that guy did not left any stone unturned and with tons of pictures ( palmtop users watch your memory ! I ran nearly out of mine on my 16 meg hp680 lx )

Very briefly :

the p800 holds its expectations and here is in a nutshell the conclusion: Screen is bigger than the Neonode N1 , but offers lower colour depth ( 12- bit versus 18-bit on N1 )

bluetooth build-in ( no dongle required ) but USB requires a PC to hook up external devices e. g keyboard , mouse , network and mass-storage  )

No sync , only filetransfers possible between pc and device ( may be adressed through third-party apps or network sync offered by the operator )

Little or no opportunity for operator to customize

Storage is Memory Stick Duo ( this is Type 1 , Memorystick is Type 2 by default ) with a physical limit of estimated 32 meg and not available outside Japan for retail )

No document creation/editing capabilities but it DOES have a fully usable Jotter ( in color !)

Limited browser ( comparable to Web on Psion )

The UIQ is reported as great

It is bulky but light-weight

The camera is great but picture quality is limited ( only 12-bit colour depth , N1 has up to 18-bit )

My conclusion : Could be a great business phone , but future is clouded as it is only becoming available near the end of its lifetime and probably will be withdrawn for a less functional successor in Q2/Q3 2003 ( shades of Nokia 92**/68** here ?)

Also the future of MemoryStick as a non-camera storage format is in doubt , after all MMC was originally developed on behest of the mobile phone industry by Nokia , Siemens/Infineon and Sandisk  and is the "official storage medium on Symbian OS  , later joined by PanaSonic who added SD and I/O capabilities

Nokia uses Type 1 MMC on its Communicators ( 9210 and 3650 ) , Psion too on its Netpad

Careful with that, Arent. This sounds like pell00 stumbled upon one of the first pre-production P800's! They did show this behaviour, but that is (should be) improved.

Hi Nic,

I use window$, but connecting with ADSL should be possible by making use of the serial connection (does your machine have a serial connection?) and something on the Mac that should be called 'PPP client' or something like that. This 'PPP client' would then relay the Internet from the ADSL modem to your Psion. Your Psion has the necessary software in ROM. For my PC solution (Mocha PPP) have a look at http://review.vdzijden.net because that gives you an idea for the necessary settings for your Psion.

Hi Jack,

How do you export your data generated by NDecode to your PC? If you export >>>gbqpiillgkhgkhjm¸<<< to your PC you will still need NDecode in the emulator to decode it. Since both NDecode and Codesafe run in the emulator - in opposition to Safeplace from Palmtop - you can use both IMHO.

NDecode and Codesafe are both from the same author Huub Linthorst. New and free versions can be downloaded at http://website.leidenuniv.nl/~linthorsthjm .

And my greetings to you (key: Didier), if anyone wants to have a try at NDecode:

I bought this card via eBay for very little money. It worked very well first time I tried. My only problem is that it makes a tremendous noise when dialling even though I set the volume to "Quiet". The literature does not give the AT commands to reduce this noise. Is it possible to reduce the noise of dialling to an "acceptable" level ?
