Very simple if I can figure it out.
Under To Do lists, select To-do list preferences and then make sure Display Crossed Out Entries is checked.

Pedro, these are sold on eBay all the time as are the Diamond Mako equivalents. Prices are not always as reasonable as I would like, but sometimes they are. If you are not in a hurry and keep a search active, you will likely get one in your price range.

Bingo!
It comes under the ordinary "Entry" menu, not the "To-do lists" one.
Hope you enjoy your 5mx, I wouldn't be without mine!

Well done, Itamar - fascinating.
It might be interesting to see in a few months whether there is any change in the demography and uses identified.
One minor point - I have more than 50 apps on my machine, but I only regularly actually use less than half of them. I therefore recorded the lower number on my return. Others might have done the same.

Could you send me the sis ?

Without testing it I would expect both the old and new names to be in a backup, as they are two completely different files to the OS. How does the OS know the difference between your renamed file and another new file? They are both new files with a new name and a new date/time.
The OS will not keep track of all names you may use for a single file.

The Mako software creates an icon called EPOCH instead of "Psion" - otherwise it seems to be the same.
In C/ EPOCH (or C/ PSION on your PC) is a folder that contains backup and synch info, to which you gave a name when you first installed PsiWin. e.g. - mine is called "PaulS5" - you can create another folder when you first connect the Mako, just give it another name.

Hi
Just thought I'd let y'all know that my PC does not have the bug. The reason for the very erratic mouse behaviour was that someone (not me) had told the thing it had a wheel mouse and it shouldn't even check for a wheel, just use that driver period.
PS. Anyone know where I can get a new rubber "eraser" for the mouse pointer joystick on a Toshiba?

I have been using a Series 5 daily for about 8 years. I have a Classic 5 and a 5MX which I bought for "insurance" because of the decision to stop production on this model. I have never had a cable failure so in my experience I don't think Psion has falsely represented the product. Actually I have not read of anyone in the US having this problem so maybe it's restricted to machines that were purchased elsewhere. I don't even want to think about a replacement product so I'm hoping they last until Psion gets back into the handheld market again (dream, wish, hope....)

I recently downloaded the latest version of plBeam and registered it to my Series 7. Attempts to install the driver in the Control Panel repeatedly crashed the computer. PsiNT (PSILoc) customer support, when contacted, revealed that "Driver mode is incompatible with the Series 7". I asked whether they might therefore add my MC218 to the registration. They did this at once. Good policy, I'd say.

Subject: XJMAIL
.... if you don't need the SMTP authentication, what is the advantage of using XJMAIL above the Psion program ? What does it do more ? Will it allow to have two emails open and toggle between them (original email and answer for example) ?
...
Only one mail open at a time, I'm afraid....
Here are the strengths and weaknesses of XJMail as I see them:
Strengths:
1) Automatic downloads and log-off save time and money
2) XJMail can be configured to automatically delete downloaded mails from the server.
2) Signatures can be automatically added to new mails.
3) You can effortlessly scroll through mails by tapping the space bar or the Enter key.
4) Press "Shift+N" to jump from one mail to the next.
5) 'SMTP authorisation' is possible.
6) Mails are saved in simple txt format - great for archiving messages. With the free pX.opo plug-in, you can automatically archive mails in an easy-to-read format.
7) A "peek" function allows you to view the first xx lines of messages which are larger than xxK.
Weaknesses:
- At present, XJMail cannot send texts with Latin (e.g., German/French) characters. Incoming mails with Latin text can however be viewed with the Symbian Text editor by entering "Shift+Enter" while viewing the mail.
- Poor integration with Contacts: addresses have to be entered manually or copied from another app and then pasted into XJMail.
- Switching between various POP3 accounts is currently a slow process. But a future version of XJMail should make it possible to automatically download emails from multiple POP3 accounts.
As a rule of thumb, I would say if you use a single POP3 email account, correspond in English and place a high priority on archiving your mails, XJMail is a good choice. If you have a lot of foreign language correspondence and collect mail from several different POP3 accounts, the built-in Mail app is the better choice.

Hi,
This is my first attempt at sending to the digest so I hope I manage OK.
I have had my 5 a few months now, after not getting on with a palm type pda, and am soon getting a 7book. Sorry if this question sounds daft but I read somewhere that you can strike through to do list items when they are completed but you want to keep them showing on list.
However I cannot work out how to do this and it is annoying me, is there a way and what do I have to do please anyone? I have looked at all the settings etc under the To Do list menu but nothing makes sense?
Many thanks
Elaine
--------------------------------
Elaine, you'll probably get many answers on this but, the first thing to do is go to To-do list, To-do lists preferences for each to-do list you have and make sure the "Display crossed out entries is checked. You can then either go to Entry, Cross out or use the Shift+CRTL+x shortcut to cross out an entry.

The problem is that deleting a message from a POP server does *not* delete it imediately but only schedules it for deletion upon exit. If you simply disconnect from the Internet without properly *closing* your mailbox, the deleted items are preseved by the POP server.

I've noticed that after I move or delete e-mail from my Compuserve mailbox, if this closes automatically (time-out or disconnection), the mail is still there when I go back. To force mail to stay moved/deleted, the Compuserve mailbox **must** be closed manually.
Hope this helps, Ian.

Peter, suggest that you try loading your Word & Powerpoint files in the
relevant Microsoft application and use the save as option to save them as web
pages, you can then copy them to & open them on your Psion S7.
Complex web documents have a file & directory so don't forget to copy both to
your Psion.
I convert Word documents to web pages on a regular basis but have never used
Powerpoint but did check to make sure it had this option.

Subject: Possible reason for writing XJMail?
Hi Itamar.
I think the *sole* reason XJMail was written was to provide proper support for the Japanese alphabet. It's a complex alphabet that the Roman alphabet has no real relationship to.
Ditto Mandarin, Hebrew, Arabic, Sanskrit and Cyrillic (and many, many others). I don't speak any of those lingoes but some are supported by EPOC, some by third party localisations and some not at all. I don't know if Japanese is supported, though I expect so, but probably not well enough for real Japanese eMailing.
Allowing XJMail to be used for the Roman alphabet was probably because of it's (necessary, of course) dependence on that alphabet for programming. There would be little extra cost in making the facilities available in English.
So he did!
Take care,
Phil.

Re.: deleting mail - It does work if you properly disconnect by first closing the remote mailbox with "close" before disconnecting from the provider.
Answer to: David Lir
Re. False Representation? - I suppose all S5(MX) users are dissatisfied with the screen cable, specially those who needed to have it repaired. The question is what the legal profession thinks of it and whether it would stick in a small claims court (for a machine of 500 pounds no-one will start a court case).
Re. Long sig - Some people use their work machines where these long sig's are added automatically. In general the operators glance through the finished digest before sending it out and delete these long sic's. Sometimes we either forget or overlook one, and that is what happened this time. In general the matter of long sic's has been discussed some time ago and I would like to ask the submitters of messages to try and keep these signatures within reason and good taste.
RE. Longevity screen cable - Besides all the jokes, people have complained of broken screen cables within 2 or 3 months of purchase, others had the problem only after extensive usage and some (like myself) never had the problem even though the 5(MX) was in use daily and opened and closed many times a day. In the time of the ups5 digest we tried to establish a pattern but did not succeed. But ... we counted 271 subscribers with S5(MX) machines so let's here from some of you a/ if you had the screen cable problem, and if so b/ after how long from purchase and c/ how often per day on average you opened and closed the machine. Please send answers to the email addreso we can separate the answers from the digest messages.

Answer to: Peter Rand
Re. Sharp Zaurus SL-C700 - That looks like a good machine as an eventual replacement for the S7. However, I note that the keys are smaller and more closely together and teh battery life is only 3-1/2 hours, two distinct minus points. But careful, it also writes that th;e Hancom Word program "seems" to handle WORD documents, so not sure ! I like the way the screen turns around and turns the unit into a palmtop. And sofar there is limited software available. We'll have to see how it all develops.
