My comment about the monopoly supplier was meant simply to point out that a monopoly supplier (not Steve Godfrey!) actually has less incentive to do things for its users/customers due to the lack of competition. I realised what Rolf was trying to say (I think) but the difference between the idealistic theory and the reality regarding the responsibilities of a monopoly supplier are poles apart.
I also agree that Rolf was making some valid points but I would prefer it if Chris were not put off developing applications due to the somewhat abrasive feedback that he received. There is a difference between constructive criticism and ripping something to pieces and I hope that Rolf, despite English being his second language, can appreciate that.

Hi!
A friend gave me his old Revo Plus with a broken shell (bottom+top back parts=the hinge mechanism).
Does anyone know where I can find a used Revo Plus (preferably broken somewhere else...)?
TIA

I would like to thank you and others like you (including myself :-)) who write freeware software for the benefit of others. I feel that Rolf Brunsting was very unfair when expressing his opinions about the flaws in your software. I have written software and released it with bugs, every programmer has. I can tell you that writing software in a professional capacity affords you more development and testing time and Rolf's approach towards your software would probably cause friction between himself and the development staff at the company he worked for when he was a beta tester. His attitude was wholly unconstructive.
I find it is far easier to criticise when someone else is doing the work, eh Rolf?
Once, I downloaded a game, played it and got the high score. I posted it to the developer to put on the web-site, with information that I had found a flaw in the game which meant I could rack up the highest score without really playing the game as it should be played. He retorted with:' Well if you don't like it, why don't you write a better one?'. So I did and not long after, he discontinued his web-site. He didn't put my score up either!
I suggest that Rolf should do one of the following: -
o Write a better version himself and show us all how it should be done
o Supply the developer with constructive crisicism, constructive bug reports and constructive ideas.
o Keep his mouth shut
Even though I am not likely to use TubeRoute as I rarely visit London, I still appreciate the efforts you are making.
BTW: That TubeRoute is crap. It doesn't even tell me the price of the coffee at Kings Cross cafe and when I got there, the cafe was shut. Your program should have informed the cafeteria of my arrival in advance so that they would have had sufficient time to open and prepare a coffee that would be handed to me as I got off the tube so that I may I walk along the red carpet, they would have put out for me, to my throne as I basque in my superiority! ;-)

Re.: SmtpAuth updated - Sorry for asking this probably "silly" question, but why do people need an smtp authentication program ? What does it do or could it do for the Psion user that (s)he can't do without it ?
Answer to: Cyril Catt
Re. Excel file swaps - No, it is not as convenient as with a P3, but it is not difficult either <G>. Why not give it a try ? By the way, you could install the Windows program on your Mac and install Psiwin which does the conversion straight. nConvert however will do it on your Psion after which you can sen an excel file from your Psion by email to third parties.

Re. S7 in car-update - I am currently traveling to Belgium, and using it extensively without any problems. The airbags are on the steering wheel and in front of the passenger seat, the S7 sits neatly in between the two on my dashboard. I don't use Velcro, exactly because of the reason you mention that it will raise the S7 and disable the little rubber feet. I use metal hooks that click into the ventilator exits and stop the S7 from fallling when suddenly increasing my speed. The rubber feet otherwise keep it very steady on my dashboard. It is just sooooo much better than the 5MX screen, amazing really. Now, who's website can I use to upload some photos and a short explanation ???????

Re. Palmtop Money - Thanks again, will certainly look that up, sounds mighty interesting.

Re. Talmud - First of all, for the non-Jewish readers, the Talmud is the oral Law that was given to Mozes at the Sinai mountain as well (as per Jewish tradition) and written down much later as people started to forget the discussions. Sorry Vlad, but I don't think that is available. There is a program called HebRead that will allow you to read many of the Hebrew texts created for the Palm platform, but the Talmud is not amongst the available texts. Have a look at www.palmaris.com as well as http://www.palmsiddur.com, http://www.pilotyid.com, http://www.penticon.com, http://www.palmshiur.com.

Subject: Duplicate opx files
Dear All
At D:System/opx/ I have a list of opx files. I also have a folder - OPX - that contains 4 of the same files, listed as data.opx, date.opx, GPrinter.opx and Sysram1.opx. As they all have the same date of creation (last Feb) at the same time, and as their twins in the root folder all have later dates of access, I assume I have , or the system has, created them in error and they are surplus to requirements.
However, just in case, this is a plea for one or more of the expert Psioneers to confirm that I can go ahead a delete the opx/OPX folder with its 4 duplicate files.
Kindest regards

Hmm, the toolbar battery indicator fix sure looks better than those two triangles, but it doesnt really work now does it?
At least on my machine (netbook) it always shows the battery as being fully charged....
Is this the same for all your psions?

I've noticed on several shareware's I bought (for both PC and Psion) where the demo has no place to register, that when I've bought it, I've gotten an e-mail which gives a link to download the full version and there was no need to enter any registration code - it was complete. Maybe Symbianware will answer your e-mail and tell you that's how it's done with the program you're wanting.

Subject: GPRS and WAP browser - the solution
I found the last piece of the puzzle for Vodafone at www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html. Here are the differences between my WAP and WEB settings. Apologies for the long post.
The difference between Nokia 6510 GPRS WAP and WEB modem settings is the APN (Access Point Name) in the Data init. string
WAP = at+cgdcont=,"ip","wap.vodafone.co.uk"
WEB = at+cgdcont=,"ip","internet"
The difference between the Vodafone GPRS WAP and WEB Internet service settings is the username/password
WA WEB = web/web
and the Primary DNS server
WAP = Get DNS address from server: unticked
Primary DNS address: 212.183.137.12
WEB = Get DNS address from server: ticked
Here are the full setting list, including the WAP Profile, and by-the-way, what does the session type and bind instruction do?

Subject: SRS repairs
Hi -
I've just received my Psion 5mx back from SRS in Germany. (www.srsgmbh.de), who have repaired the "inevitable" screen cable defect with a non-standard longer-lasting cable. The repair cost 95 EURO including carriage back to the UK, which compares favourably with a UK repair from POS or Psion. The only problem was that SRS had changed their payment policy without updating their web site, which led to a three-month delay(!)
Incidentally, I casually mentioned the delay on the Digest a few weeks ago and was immediately contacted by Marcus von Cube, who worked near to the SRS workshops. Marcus visited SRS on my behalf and discovered that their policy of "cash on delivery" had become "cash before delivery" - many thanks to him for all his help.
Mark

Hi,
I think there must be some misunderstanding. I happened to visit SRS today (I live in Frankfurt, close to their workshop) and asked them about the payment issue. They reassured me that their policy is still "cash on delivery". Come to think of it, does the same system exist in the UK as it does here, viz you pay the postman in cash when he delivers something "cash on delivery"? Coz if it doesn't, or doesn't work cross-borders, SRS may want to have cash first...
All the best
Carlos

Subject: Infr-red transfer and PhoneManPro
Using PhonManPro I had been typing text messages on my PDA, and sending them to my mobile phone, when the Psion was re-set and the infra-red link froze.
I was just congratulating myself for backing up the drives on my Psion5mx and doing a hard re-set and re-loading the software onto the C drive, therby getting the infra-red to burst back into life; then the same infra-red lock-up occurred again.
Obviously I shall try and resolve this with the authors of PhoneMan, but in case I am having problems that have been overcome in another way thought I would seek this list's reaction.
I have no success at all in uploading emails by infr-red, by the way; attempts always cause a re-set, so I don't bother, but it would be nice if I could.
Charles
