Jim,
>I tried IR transfer between the Psion and the Dana using PLBeam. The file transfers fine but shows up on the Dana as "unrecognizable," so am transferring files via PsiWin and HotSynch.
I've written a short macro that works in conjuction with plBeam and sends arbitrary info from the Psion to a Palm or similar device. It just marks everything in the current doc (or on the current page in Jotter) with ^a, copies it into an empty file and beams the result. Palms treat the information as a memo.

The subject is "Re: Your application".
The text of the message says simply "Please see the attached file."
It contains a 59.9KB attachment named "screensaver.scr".
Norton AV doesn't object when I try to save the file. I haven't run it !!!
I don't think others should either; hence this e-mail.
It would be a socially responsible act if someone would run it in a "sandbox" and let us know for sure if is safe or not. Unfortunately I don't have the necessary kit.
I am copying this messagewhich is the address on the panix.com web site.
Hopefully they will take action, as most responsible ISPs would, to trace the culprit and cancel their contract.

Subject: N9210i / spam
Hi group,
Given the fact that both my 7110's are likely to fail in the next few weeks - the antenna of one is getting loose, the other has SIM failures - and that I will move to Belgium which is one of those rare countries that offer HSCSD on prepaid at *no extra charge* (yummie!) I am seriously considering the Nokia 9210i. Best offer is to my knowing 757 euros with a free one year subscription to the Dutch KPN Telecom network (without it the phone is more expensive).
Has anyone come across better deals?
(I found this one at www.telecomvergelijker.nl but you will have to be Dutch to buy it).
I have three serious doubts and perhaps one of the happy 9210i users could discuss this:
1. The 9210i is a *huge* phone, so it seems to me. The 7110 is quite big, but it fits in my trouser pocket. However, I think that with the 9210i this is out of the question. True, my 5mx cannot fit in my pocket, but I do not need it permanently and I do need a mobile phone permanently.
Can someone compare it with the 7110? How do you use/transport your Commie?
2. The 9210i does not have Bluetooth nor GPRS. Furthermore the RAM is better than on the 9210, but still not very good. I would nearly say: the 9210i is an old piece of kit. Is there any news on its followers-up?
3. The use of the 9210i would mean the end of the use of the 5mx, including the dedicated software that I use on it. I do not think that both can be used on a daily basis, given the mess of two agendas and contacts databases (yes, I know, synchronisation...). Can the 9210i seriously be used as the one-and-only PDA?
Does anyone know if there is a periodic (chemical) system available for the 9210i, such as Chemtools?
Is there a literature database program such as Qcite of Reference Manager available?
I really like the integration of my e-mail and fax in one kit and the thought of HSCSD is very tempting. Are there any Belgians around who use a 9210i with HSCSD?
I also love the speakerphone functionality that was mentioned on the Nokia web site. Does this work appropiately (volume, stability, can the other caller hear you) in your opinions?

Thank you, Trygveh, for that link. Finally there exists a service that does not require you to change your e-mail address nor to install something in Window$ .

Dick,
My Nokia 7110e expired recently and a replacement was sought through Orange. I visited their store on Oxford St.
I was taken initially by the Siemens S55 (note: not the S45), as it appered in magazines as a chunky, steely handset that appeared to satisfy my technical wish list. Alas, no! In real life it was too plasticky, and no matter how we tried, it proved impossible to connect through IR to my P5mx. More importantly, I couldn't get it to synch with Phone Man Pro+.
The Nokia 6100 was suggested. It felt nice, looked good, albeit a bit too generic, and importantly it did everything that I asked of it. It synched straightaway with PhoneMan Pro+, read and sent SMSs, etc.
I upgraded my talk plan, but held back on a GPRS subscription for the short term as I'm not sure that it would be of much use. So I can't offer advice on its GPRS functionality, save that, the phone has 'it'. Though I do do the Orange WAP quiz a lot (SmartAss), very compelling! The phone behaved well on TriBand as a recent trip to the US proved. With normal useage I get about 3-4 days life from the battery. It got me through a 4 day trip to Rome last weekend without my charger. The central 4-way select button does allow for very easy menu navigation. I have always held that Nokia menu architecture to be the best, still do.
One point though. The S55 camera unit was a neat, pocket portable unit, that IIRC, used the phone screen as its viewfinder. Very neat, very easy. The Nokia 6100 however, is a clumsy affair. It's cable linked to the phone, and it's not a seamless process. As having taken the image you have to open up the image file on the phone screen. The maon drawback though is that whatever you think you see on through the viewfinder is invariably not what you see on the phone. Very nuch NOT WYSIWYG. Which fundamentally diminishes the whole point of photography, methinks. It really falls to you to decide what you want the phone to do.

Hey All
My latest toy is a Nokia 3650 which I'm pretty pleased with. Other than the numbers being arranged _anti_clockwise in a circle. Why oh why did they have to change it?
Like said though other than the keypad I love it to bits. Lotsa thingies to play with and the camera even works fairly well in the right lighting. The 16MB MMC card included makes it much more useful that the 7650 to which it is almost identical except for the form factor.
Why I posted though: Anyone know how to get it talking properly to my 5mx? Other than beaming contacts which works from the 5mx to the Nokia 3650 although the 5mx says "Infrared Transfer Interrupted - yada yada"
Sending contacts from the Nokia to the 5mx works flawlessly.
Sending any other data fails - for instance a Jotter page on my Psion which would go nicely into a "Notes" file on my Nokia just says "Could not connect. The other machine cannot receive infrared from this machine."
Any tips anyone?

Sorry, I should have explained this better - You can physically enter this data, but it will not work. In some cases it will give an error, in others it will reset the machine. In any case you won't be able to connect.

I have been in touch with someone who has made a little program to see whether MacOs X or Windows can see the Keyspan file.
The program works and says that the Keyspan is there, both in X and VPC Windows. This implies that the problem is with PsiWin.
I wonder if the problem lies in the difference between my Windows in French and PsiWin in English.
My friend programmer manages to get PsiWin to run from VPC/W98, but not at the full speed.

Please would you tell me the settings you use for the 6310 i.e. any scripts necessary? Many thanks.

Just make sure you don't confuse the "6310" with the "6310i"! I have a 6310i, and it works like a charm with my Revo. I'm not interested in sending pics or MMS. Plus the keys on most modern phones are too small for my grubby fingers...
You'll find that settings are rather dependent on the ISP you use. Vodafone Germany, for instance, has modem settings on their web page, listed by phone type and make.
Re SMTPAuth: I also have an account with 1&1 and found it impossible to use with my Revo. I got round this by simply using Vodafone as ISP (ie the Internet Settings on the Control Panel) but using my 1&1 address as quoted Return Address (Email / Accounts). Thus no recipient actually "sees" Vodafone but replies automatically to my 1&1 account.

What s45 would do that your used t68i wouldn't?
I do not have the T68i any longer. I sold it several months
ago.
To Mark:
>> I use a 6100 happily and find the battery good and fast to charge. That said I hear that the Ericssons tend to be better with Psions and the T68i
Mark, thanks for your advice.
Unfortunately, (or fortunately) the last model of S45 was sold when I returned to the store. Needing a phone I decided to get the Nokia 6610 which has Gprs, Csd. Battery life is good.
I got Csd- is this Hscsd?- working with a Palm but not yet Gprs.
My phone service charges Csd the same rate per minute as a normal phone call and the baud rate must be set to 9600. Is there an advantage to using Csd over a regular Isp with mobile phones?
The 6610 looks quite similar and could be the predecessor of 6100, but without the multimedia extras. You are right about the T68i. It connected so easily with Psions. But as a phone, I prefer Nokias. I did not like the address book which was very slow nor the sms. I use Phoneman too but for the odd short sms's I will use the phone directly. I found Nokia better for those purposes. But, alas, still no Gprs <G>.

Re.: Telnet - Thanks for yr answer, but no, it does not solve the problem. It is very hard to know from the list which is the email with a problem and accordingly to know which one to delete. I can't move all messages to my mailbox but for the offending ones as the problem usually show itself while downloading the headers and building the header list. Any idea someone how to solve the problem of the error I get when trying to use Freeserve website or web2pda with Opera ?
