Since Digest  #277, all digests sent to you have been returned with the message  "user account unknown".

We have had no choice but to discontinue your subscription because  returned digests take up alot of space in the mailbox. Hopefully, you are able to read this from another source and re-subscribe at a later time.

Thank you very much for your kind attention.

Fwiw: Had that too, but a reinstall sorted the things out for me too. I installed the application and the maps on CF, but the opx-s on C. I found that if I have Twinkey on, one or both Tomtoms will crash. I also take care to have NO other app. open if possible. I haven't had a crash in a long time...

You are not unique with that problem!  This has happened to me on

occasions.  It's too early for me to be certain yet but in my case it would seem that disabling the GPS before closing the first application and entering the second one seems to avoid the problem.

According to the creator of the site, they have no plans to begin taking money for it or add any commercials anywhere.

That said, he did add a PayPal donate button on the site when I asked him about donations. (I usually donate US$25 every year to the 'free' services I use on the net)

To put it short, the main reason they're not taking money for it is that people would expect a completely different level of service that they would have to hire people to fulfill. (it's mostly a one man operation)

That said, they've now set up a server in America, though I have no idea whether or not it's stable yet...

(It was checking user 119 of 117 the last time I checked :-)

Re.: Routeplanner - I don't think Route- and Streetplanner live happily together open on your Psion. I think they both go for the same link. I usually open either of them. ALso when moving from Route to Streetplanner from within Route planner this program automatically closes. By the way, has anyone by chance a copy of the latest Tomtom Streetplanner for EPOC gathering dust in a drawer and wanting to sell it ?

Hi Kevin,

the same happens to me too. If Street and Route are open, I get into trouble. This is especially bad when I have my GPS connected and I am on the road. You switch the "other" application on when you need additional information, else you might take the wrong turn. If then one of them crashes ... bad.

I could not identify a pattern though. It seems to happen mostly - when I most need it ;-) - no, when GPS is connected.

Yes, Phil, I have had that, and more than once if I recall. I removed the app in full, then reinstalled again, and things sorted themselves out... (BTW I've also found upon occasion that, if Route is open, Street may crash, and vice versa: am I unique in this, I wonder?)

From: Philip Carlisle

Subject: New netbook/5mx/a tip

Dear All

1.  Have just taken delivery of new netbook from Psion via Expansys.  To my surprise, it appears to have all applications and OS already loaded - no CF disk in package, but OS, with and without applications, listed on accompanying CD.  Have not powered up, as I wished to add memory upgrade DIMM.  Have done so, following guidance in Palmtop magazine.  However, it suggests that the internal (C) disk will have to be formatted after switching on and letting machine boot itself.  Is this action essential?  If so, I presume when I do this I'll lose the loaded OS and apps and have to reload from the CD via PsiWin.  Would it be easier to back up C drive having booted up, and before formatting, or have I no option but to format drive before I can do anything else?

2.  My 5mx has frozen 3 times in 2 days while in different applications.  Have used soft reset and then CleanIt and Reclaim and have used Navigator+ to defrag.  If it continues to freeze, what's the next option - hard reset?

3.  Sounds scary, but have found that a very small, and mostly dry, piece of Duraglit ( an impregnated wadding material for metal cleaning available in the UK) works very well in polishing out the worst of the areas of the 5mx screen affected by repetitive use of the pen (and the freezing of my machine had happened before I discovered this technique!).  Clearly, one has to be gentle, but it seems to be effective in restoring a clearer view through the screen.

Sorry for length of this massive, but any help/advice will be gratefully received.

Regards

Sorry, everybody, but I do have a CF card in the netbook - already in its slot, but not advertised as such in any of the documentation!  However, would still like to know if formatting is required for additional memory to be recognised.

Thanks in advance

From: Euan Mee

Subject: Aargh!  Unexpected 5mx problem

Just over a week ago, my 5mx turned 1 year old.

So I suppose it's inevitable - today at lunchtime it's started acting weird.

Okay, this morning I woke up, and started reading a novel using eBook, then went to system to check the time.  I had a bath, and

went to start reading my eNovel again.

But when I tapped the screen, nothing happened.

Much to my relief, the backlight switched on - but the silk-screen keys didn't move me to an app that actually worked.

I depressed the reset 'button' and switched on again - a reassuringcouple of beeps, but no graphics.

I can even record voicenotes and play them back using the

specialist buttons - but no graphics.

What's /really/ frustrating, is that I seem to have a working Psion - except for the screen - but there is no easy way of getting the

damn thing connected to the PC to get the last few hours of new

files backed up.

What I now realise I want is to reset, switch on, and press Ctrl- <something or other> secure in the knowledge that the Remote

Link is set to Cable.

(the nearest I can get is reset, On, Menu, 6, <cursor down>,

<cursor down>, Return, <cursor right>,  Return.

Unfortunately, It doesn't seem to be working.  Aaargh.

And it's only a week since the warranty ran out!  AAAAAaaaargh!!!

Cheers,

Is there anybody on this list who could sell it to me?

I know I am waay late in responding to this thread (I'm getting caught up after being behind for a week) - but I use a program called Tools that also replaces the Extras bar, and I've found if I want to see the "stock" Extras bar I can use Fn-Extras and the system Extras bars pop right up.

I'm not sure if this is unique to Tools, or if it will work with ExtraBars, but it might be worth a try.

Kay Mapper from www.zavorine.com is the best keyboard remapper in my opinon. It integrates with the OS and is Freeware too.
