Ben,

Something sounds wrong. Your Syncro folder should only have

Synchronization.srp or Synchronization.es~ files. Does this TempData folder

actually exist in the Synchro folder? If so, I'd delete it and try syncing

again. It sounds like you may not have had a previous sync finish correctly

and that created the TempData folder.

------------------

To those that wrote about CopyAnywhere spawning multiple sessions, this is a

known problem under Win2K and was never fixed by Psion. It does not happen

with Win 9.x or Win XP. The only solution I've ever seen is to remove

CopyAnywhere from your startup folder and open it from a desktop shortcut

when you need it and close it when you're done copying.

The behaviour of the zoom is up to the discression and programming skills of the programmer who wrote the application. If the application does not come in a special version for the NetBook, it will have the same zoom levels as it does on the 5mx.

Answer to: Andrew Lea & Manuel Campos Galvan

Re.: Compuserve in the USA - Thanks for your answers, I'll take it all into account. Manuel, I don't have a WIFI card and did not know it works with a S7 as well. Are you sure ? Anyhow, the S7 will be in the hotel during the day and used only at night or rest time.

Answer to: David Steer

Re. Psion Sienna - Yep, I suppose this is the "Enia". Actually, I still have one lying in a drawer gathering dust. Any interest from someone, contact me off digest.

Answer to: Bernard Olij

Re. modem trouble - It is definitely AT&F on my machine. What comes to my mind is first of all fresh batteries as it will not run on half empty ones. Secondly, can you try the modem with another machine ?  It might well be a faulty modem, even though it dials out. Also, enter "fixed line" in the settings even though it is an IR one. Why do you try COMMS ? Try to connect with the email program, COMMS is difficult to use. Also try the program "TheDialer" to dial out, it will allow you just to enter a number and dial it. Lastly, of course the quality of your telephone line does affect your connection.

Answer to : Peter McCafferty

Re. Demon ISP - You set the idle time in the first screen when activating "Internet" from the Control Panel underneath the internet settings name. I set mine to 5 minutes when "idle" and 2 minutes on "exit".

Answer to: Euan Mee

Re. Aargh 5mx... - If your warranty will run out shortly I would send it in for repair with a letter explaining what problem you had. If it will run another few months, you can afford to wait and see. Anyhow, I don't think it will take 2 weeks.

Peter,

At the base level, the Netbook has three levels of zoom on the System screen.  However, the way an application zooms is dependent on the application and not the Netbook itself.  I would try out the CAD and Graphics programs first to see if they support the levels of zoom you require.  For example MBMView supports zoom in % allowing for several hundred zoom levels.

This is what it is all about!  This is why many of us stick with our Psions - try and get this level of support for MS!  So, if you haven't signed the Netbook Pro petition then what are you waiting for!  Hop on over to www.petitiononline.com/nbookpro and put your name to it!  Today there are 697 signatures and it is growing fast.

Hi.

I'll be leaving the Emerald Isle in a few weeks and continuing on my journey to the sun. This year I will be heading for the Canaries, and probably stopping in Spain and Portugal.

I'll be needing Pay As You Go SIM cards for my T39m as well as Psion friendly ISP's for connecting to the net via GSM. I'll still be using the frisurf.no e-mail address and retreiving my inbound e-mail from Frisurf's POP server, but I will need access to SMTP servers for my outbound e-mail. Any suggestions would be welcome. I assume the same GSM providers and ISP's are in operation in Spain and the Canaries?

My guess is the Index file is corrupted. Try making a backup of your System\Mail folder (in case you mess up) and then deleting the "System\Mail\Index" file and replacing it with an empty text file named "Index". If you don't have the text editor, you can create the file by exporting to text from an empty Word document and then moving the text file to "System\Mail\".

The Email application should re-create the Index and hopefully fix the problem in the process. If for some reason it doesn't work, you can retreive the old Index file from the backup.

I had a similar problem a while ago where the e-mail application would persistantly crash if the total number of messages in all e-mail folders exceeded a certain number (around 80). It didn't matter if the reason the number of messages went over the fixed value was downloading one more inbound or creating a new message. The problem was resolved by re-creating the index file as explained above.

What I have is a UK English 5mx in perfect working order. In fact, it looks brand new. Nothing wrong with it at all, but the idea of more RAM appeals to me. I thought it would be a good idea to upgrade it to a 5mx Pro, but it seems this will actually be a downgrade! So, why was everyone complaining when the Pro was released in Germany and not the UK?

I am aware of the company providing RAM upgrades, but as I understand it's a relatively simple job for someone used to soldering electronics, I'd like to do it myself. All I need is a source for the RAM chips and some input (in a language I understand) from someone who has done it. Thinking about it, I suppose upgrading the Mako would be more useful than the 5mx where I have a big CF.

If you removed all the batteries when you installed the DIMM, you have in effect reformatted the C disk by hard resetting the computer.

The one "downer" is that when using CopyAnywhere (Win 2K professional and Psiwin 2.3.3) it keeps installing multiple copies. i.e. CopyAnwhere starts automatically at connection, when the Psion auto turns off CopyAnywhere stays open. Has anyone had this problem and found a solution.

I have had the same problem, the easy solution for me to avoid crashes and the fact that the PC did not shut down fully when told to was to disable the function under "My Psion", "My Psion Properties", "Connections", "Start CopyAnywhere at connection".

Yes, this disables the function, but everything works perfectly...

Hi Owen

"Another interesting point is that the UK English OS image my friend installed on his Pro is actually software version 1.05(250). This is _exactly_ the same version as my standard UK English 5mx is running."

Yes! Even in the 'Information/About Series 5mx'-Screen the Serie 5mx logo was schown (and not the 5mxPro ones).

"Were there ever any OS updates for the German Pro, and if so, what were the differences?"

I have to versions at home (273 and 319). I don't know the exact differences. The thing I mentioned is that in the older version the eMail- and Web-App was both english including their help-files.

But except of some very minor changes their should be no differences.

(They also have the same Version number: 1.05)

I don't know other Image versions.

"I suppose we can all safely assume there won't be any new OS upgrades for the Pro?"

Yes! But the reason I bought a mxPro was the ability to change the OS completely and nevertheless have the diskspace of the virtual ROM drive too.

IF you ever want to install linux on your Serie 5 this could be usefull.

Your point about the free disk space:

As far as I know, you ar right. Just calculate 24MB RAM - 10,443 MB Virual ROM = 13,557 MB! That's obviously less then 16 MB with an standard 5mx.

(If you change zu drive Z and open 'Information/Disk' you will see that the ROM is 16MB but this couldn't be correct. If have written a small program which count filesizes and this come to the above 10,443 MB)

I hope that doesn't interfere our deal, does it?  :))

Korbinian
