Dear Itamar,

I'm sad to say that I think you are right. We are a small community and when we even can't bring a thousand signatures world wide we won't stand a chance. From a marketing view we are not of interest at all. Even if we all (the 780 signatories) would buy the netBook Pro with SymbianOS it would probably not cover the costs for development - sad indeed...

The netpad is OS agnostic which mean that it can run SymbianOS (ER5) or WinCE.net. When you order a netpad you must decide which OS it should use. It will then be loaded into the FlashROM with the core OS and no applications except for Data and Intent. So my netpad is running the native ER5 OS - there is NO WinCE.net at all [hurrah for that]<BG>.

Ciao Itamar,

Thank you for taking the time of commenting my previous post.

According to the information I have got, the netPad underneath can currently be ordered either with Win CE.net or EPOC ER 5.

As to the nB petition, I  understand your skepticism (I feel you are not the only one, either), even if I have a different opinion in regard. However, I do appreciate very much your decision of supporting it anyway, which is something I would recommend anybody to do.

I am personally glad of the results we reached so far as well as of the composition of the fellows who signed it. in fact, not only the petition has been signed by several "enthusiasts", but also by many programmers, developers and resellers as well: this is really something which should make us think about the whole thing and realize that the success of our intitiative is NOT a pure question of numbers.

Moreover, the petition has been discussed by several forums around the whole world in the following languages: english, german, japanese, italian, french, russian, polish, danish, and others...

BTW, please note that - being the digest actually sent to 790 subscribers - I think that this petition should somehow deserve further support. that is why I keep on writing these posts here. The day before yesterday I sent a similar message on Psion Fans Italia stressing the point that only 30 signatures out of 730 were italians. As a result, you may have noticed a growing number of italians signed the petition in the last two days.

Until the petition is officially delivered to P/T, the thing will be spread by word-of-mouth. After wednesday, dateline for the delivery, everyone is invited to inform his own connections in the specialized press for further advertisement.

Furthermore, I remind you the plead I wrote in one of my latest posts:

<<The outstanding work performed by Yan Silvester (AKA Diem) includes one innovative possibility: giving a third party the opportunity to take over a job which P/T - perhaps - may not be willing to do.

...

In fact, a more marketing-oriented third party may fully understand the potential of symbianboosting other smaller machines and therefore - who knows - a Symbian ER7 (Psionbrandless) netBook may establish a bridgehead for further operations. In this context, even smaller versions of the nB pro may be issued with ER 7 (perhaps a kind of a new coloured 5mx or maybe even a new sort of revo).

these ER 7 PDA would be excellent smartphone companions, either.

Often reality goes further than fantasy: could this be the case?>>

The great news - IMHO - which really make the difference are the following ones:

thanks to the point described in the petition, should the EPOC ER 5 standard netBook actually be dead, the whole international community would be then ready to buy a Symbian ER 7 OEM "netBook" (without the Psion Logo on that as well as the netBook name) from a different supplier, who may be even one of the existing Psion Teklogix customers. it would be the same machine with a different brandname and the Symbian logo would replace the familiar EPOC we currently have on our beloved machine.

For all the above-mentioned reasons, it is fundamental that every single International EPOC/SYMBIAN community member take a clear position, thus enabling to establish a common front in favour of the Symbian OS option for the new nB pro.

Demonstrating how the International Psion User Community is active and vital will be a critical success factor in acquiring credibility among Psion Teklogix and some other third party players whom are going to be contacted to express their opinion about the whole matter.

Therefore, thank you all for your kind attention and support.

Now please let's stand up together for a Symbian OS option for the nB pro.

Cheers

I'm surprised it grew that big. Good job it was compressed on exit. I wasn't aware that it was necessary to create a new e-mail before closing the e-mail app after restoration for this to work. As my problem when the index file was corrupted was that I couldn't receive more e-mail or create new e-mails without deleting something first, creating a new e-mail was the first thing I tried.

If you have 650 mails in your e-mail application, you REALLY need the excellent SaveMail application so you can archive your e-mails to Psion Data format. It's Freeware too and your e-mails will be safer! I have just about every e-mail I've sent or received since I bought my first S5 archived with SaveMail. I use different files for different categoires of e-mail and start a new file for each category every quarter to avoid them growing too big. Savemail files older than one year are kept on the PC so I can open them with the EPOC simulator.

I said RELATIVELY simple. It may not be simple compared to the problems you normally bother your mind with, but compared to for instance "The Meaning of Life, The Universe and Everything", it really is very simple. (And excellently explained by Michael Degn.)

I first saw it on this very digest a few months back. The poster (sorry, can't remember who) said you could use any file and name it Index, but I tried with a Word file, and that didn't work, so I used an empty text file instead.

Yes, I do use EpocSync and it has happened that I've forgotten to rename the Mail folder. Rebuilding the index file brought back quite a few old forgotten e-mails that had long since been archived to SaveMail.

I'm not sure what you mean here. The whole point is to be able to get e-mail working again without loosing any of your e-mails. If you delete the Mail folder, the e-mails will be lost and e-mail will start again from scratch, so there is no need to make a new "fake" index file to kickstart it.

PS. Thanks Chris for the tip about MailArch. Could you please supply an URL?

I do make it so, too. But today I stated, that most of the emails are deleted in the email app, but not in the folder C:\System\Mail\00001001_S\ (I see in the Email app 40 mails with 3 attachments, but in the folder 00001001_S\ 177 files + 13 subfolders).

This means, the email app deletes the mails only in the index, but not "physically". A bug??

Could someone give a piece of advise, how to find the useless files and subfolders to be deleted?

Replying to my earlier post. Hadn't checked GPRS for idle time out for a long time, but having recently been given some different settings I tested it again and it seems that vodafone has changed something as it now stays connected for a good 10minutes before disconnecting.

Thankyou for your explanations, however, I would like to point out that neither actually answered my questions. I know that mass has gravity, but what causes mass to have gravity?

As for light,  know that an increase of velocity on a mass causes an increase in mass, but why does this relate to the constant of light speed? Incidentally, light as a particle travels faster than light as a wave.

The website of the Psion dealer in South Africa is www.psion.co.za

Please note that the 5mx Pro English is not advertised on their website (as far as i can tell), but it has been periodically advertised in the national press. I expect that this is due to limited or irregular stock quantities.
