On the 24th June 2003 you were unsubscribed because all emails were blocked as spam from N-Dream Antispam Service. You subscribed again immediately after - that's fine except for the fact that all emails still are blocked by N-Dream. So now you'll be unsubscribed for one week so you can fix the problem. After that week if the emails still are blocked you'll be unsubscribed.
We can't seem to get in touch with you and you haven't responded to any messages at all. Please contact us so we can find a solution.
Best regards,

I've seen a spreadsheet that *lists* codes, but doesn't explain them.
In any case I can explain the given message, but first a little background is in order.
Native EPOC files have a special header that allows EPOC to identify the file and the application it 'belongs' to without needing to worry about file extensions.
Non-native EPOC files, like text files, PDFs, GIF, JPEGs, etc don't have the special EPOC header. Without some special processing EPOC would not be able to recognise those sorts of files. EPOC does this special processing using programs called recognisers. These are stored in the \System\Recogs folder. Whenever you view files via the System/Desktop, EPOC has to run these recognisers for every file it doesn't already recognise.
The message you see comes about because EPOC remembers where it's found recognisers previously. If you installed apps on D: or E:, that's where it put any recognisers for those apps. When you pull the CF out, EPOC tries to find the recognisers, can't, and displays the message you see.
The solution is to *move* all the files in \System\Recogs on your D: and/or E: drives to the C: drive. You may need to create the Recogs folder yourself.
I can't comment on removal of CF cards, I just don't do that. Sometimes, though, my netBook won't recognise the CF card when I turn the netBook on. It basically says "Disk not present", even though I haven't even opened or closed the CF door at any time, even when it was off! Turning the netBook off then on brings the disk back. It seems like some sort of a dodgy
timeout issue.

Itamar, here is what I know. I have a Malay netBook. I have a Psion branded mains adaptor. It says
In: 100 - 240 V / 550 mA / 50 - 60 Hz
Out: 15.5 V / 1.5A
It has UK plugs. I got a plug adaptor from Walkabout that allows the mains adaptor to fit US power sockets. There is no additional transformer. I think my mains adaptor was called a universal adaptor. If this is what you have, then you do not need a transformer. You need only the plug adaptor.
(As I recall, US voltage is something like 110V and 60Hz, if your cell transformer operates in that range, the same plug adaptor should work. I cannot remember what UK uses.)
By the way, if anyone wants a mains adaptor for 200 - 240 V, I have 3 Sunpower Model BPA-201-15V for sale. Contact me off list.

Maybe they just don't write -- that might be why there are never any postings from netPad users here on the digest ;-)
The CE.net version has a pop-up onscreen keyboard (that you can position freely on the screen, in contrast to e.g. the one in PocketPC). I suppose the EPOC netPad uses the same technique. I'm not aware of an externally attachable keyboard.

Is there a way of connecting my mc218 orS5 through my pc which is networked and connected to the net through a cable modem, so I can download my email onto the mc218 / S5. I have Psiwin and Ericsson's version.

So Itamar -- where are you going in the US and when? Those of us on this side of the pond welcome the godfather of the Digest. It's also hot as heck here on the East Coast (99 today), after a very cold and wet spring. Bring insect repellent -- the mosquitos have had a great mating season.

Subject: Odd errors on netBook.
I bought one of David Lowe's netBooks. When I first got it, I quickly setup the Email app and sent and received e-mails without any problem.
I decided that I should be starting to use it in place of my Psion 7, which could then be relegated to 'spare', like my second 5mx. So I wrote a couple of e-mails and found that I could not connect to my ISP. I then tried to connect with the Psion 7 and got the same result.
My ISP had decided to upgrade, which resulted in loss of e-mails in and out. Then loss of web browsing before the return of e-mails in. Eventually the ability to send e-mails was returned, so I tried to use the nB again after finding that the 7 was OK.
After tapping 'OK' on the 'Connect to Internet' panel, I got the error:-
'Problem connecting to Remote mailbox - Already exists'.
There are no other apps open other than Macro5, ChaDis7 and System.
I renamed the index file and generated a 0k one with Edit, but the problem remains. I don't think it has anything to do with the ISP failures.
Today, as I now type this, I tried Opera for the first time. After tapping 'OK' on the 'Connect to Internet' panel, I got the error:-
'http://www.symbian.com/ - Network problem'.
as I had tapped the Symbian link.
nFTP and NetStatRF were already installed but although I've had a quick look at them both, they are not still running.
Anyone any idea what could be causing these errors, which I guess are linked in some odd way?
Arrrrh !
I've just done a soft reset. It's cleared both these errors and as well as changing the System screen display settings has removed the 'User applications from the lower left icons.
BTW, are David Lowe's netBooks, Maylay nBs? And should I be concerned if they are?

Their web site assumes that all users use Windows. Apple users will have to wait for their upgrade.

I'm not so sure that it's obvious Itmar. As the "Positioning System" only appears once in the "Installed programs" list, then both apps could not be using the link connection at the same time as they both use the "Positioning System" to use the link connection.
I have not used both apps together and had a crash, so maybe the GPS has never been enabled in both at the same time. However, I had understood that the "NEMA GPS provider" or "Positioning System", is what is connected to the Serial port. Otherwise known as a 'GPS Engine' it would get the GPS data from the Serial port and then make it available to both running apps.
I had assumed that the "Positioning System" would be running in the background and place the GPS data in a fixed memory location. Then the multi-tasking OS of the Psion would allow both apps to read that data from the memory location.
I had hoped that it would be possible for someone to identify the precise method used by Palmtop (SillyName - TomTom), so allowing other GPS using apps, like RealMaps, to also access the GPS data.
Have others any thoughts on this topic?

Subject: Compuserve
With the kind assistance of Itamar I have recently signed up for a CompuServe Classic Account. (Can only do this using a PC ) But despite following all the fields in as directed on Mike McConnel's website I am still unable to connect with my NetBook.
It says connecting to mailbox but then I get the timed out error. If I look in Logs it seems to fail on the ATO command - No Carrier.
I can however open the mailbox when connected to the net via my other ISP.
Anyone offer any suggestions?

Subject: more postings, GPRS idle, Symbian OS onnB, eMail-app folders, NetPad keyboard,
Answer to: niC bLaK
Re.: more postings - Your answer of 1 line was on my S7 actually preceeded by 50 (!) lines of a quoted message. Maybe it is worthwhile to quote only relevant parts of a message ?
Answer to: Mark Deppe
Re. GPRS idle - It could also be actual phone related or maybe the program you use ? I was disconnected after 2 minutes "standing" in the email program, not Web or Opera. I use Vodaphone.
Answer to: Arent Kits van Heijningen
Re. Symbian OS onnB - Your message is unclear to me. What will Symbian be left to do if not provide for phone software ? You mean that they only supply the operating system in the background with the "foreground" being left to WindowsCE and Linux ?
Answer to: Korbinian
Re. eMail-app folders - You can of course open more folders, but you can't download emails directly into the folder. I sometimes download mail from one mailbox, move them all to a different folder and than download mail from a different mailbox (for example when handling the mailbox of the digest to keep the messages separate from my own emailing).
Answer to: David Steer
Re. NetPad keyboard - Thanks for the info, but surely it will not be good enough to input larger text files or longer emails, and programming larger keys will make the screen very small for the rest of the info. I think I'll stick with my S7 for as long as it will work. Interestingly enough I don't think any of the (former) people on this digest have found solutions to replace their Psions that they are satisfied with ... (not including the Nokia, which in my eyes is Psion). Who knows what the future will bring (happily typing this on an airplane, small enough to sit comfortably on my little table, enough battery power for the full flight of 4-1/2 hours and more).

Re. Charging in the USA - Thanks for that piece of info, I already started looking at transformers. I am sure a new mains connection to the Nokia 6310i will be a lot cheaper than a transformer ....
However, Jim Cooke writes I do need a step down transformer. I suppose you are wrong, but in case you are right, is there a Radio shack in the big city of New York where I could buy that set for $ 30.- ? It seems to me a very cheap price for a great kid to own. Is there website "www. radioshack.com" ?
Answer to: Shlomo Almor
Re.: freindly observation - Thanks for your observation, but as the digest is prepared on Psions only it is text format and we cannot enter links. I suppose it is your email program that transforms these addresses to links.

Re. Charging in the USA - Looking at my adaptor now I see that it states as the make Sunpower, AC input 200V-240VAC, 1A 50/60 Hz and DC output 15V and 1.3A. Is this the same as yours and does it work in the USA or do we have different adaptors and is Jim right ? I want to avoid to be in the USA and burn my adaptor ..... <G>.

Subject: Email keeps crashing (was Email crashes)
Hello,
thanks to all who replied to my original post.
I have tried everything from rebuilding the index file (several times), through completely deleting the mail folder, but so far nothing has helped.
I even decided to create a new account (POP3) at one of our Czech free mail providers, and... it works perfectly. I have just deleted about 30 emails from the POP box and the app didin't crash!
So I suppose, the problem could be in the IMAP support software I have installed. So I reinstalled it, but still get the same EIKON-LISTBOX crash.
I am really at my wit's end. Can anybody go further beyond, where I seem to be unable to reach?
Thanks in advance and a lot.
Have a nice day
