Why not use your 5mx as the voice recorder?  If you store the recordings on high capacity CF cards (which are very affordable these days) then you can use a CF card reader to transfer the recordings over to your desktop PC or laptop.

Itamar,

Re.: Revo again - Ian, Rolf _does_ own a REVO as he described his pattern of loading the battery which was discussed in this digest .... !! <<

I am aware of that. All I was saying is that you don't have to have actual experience of something to form an opinion, as that is not always possible. As I said before, if people are happy with their Revos, great, but I would not buy one as I am scepti al about its reliability; this is based on what I have read (both here and elsewhere) and heard, and nothing else.

I'm perfectly happy to comply, as long as other people do as well. There are ways of expressing an opinion that need not imply that other people are stupid.

Susan,

I've noticed this when sending appointments to my wife's Palm m515; there's always a time difference of 2 hours (I forget which way), presumably for the same reason.

Cheers, Ian.

Subject: Stylus

Dear All,

What styluses (or styli) will "work" with the netBook and Series 7?

Series 5 styluses do work, but apparently the nice chrome or anodised aluminium styluses that fit in a 5 or 5mx won't fit in a Series 7/netBook.  Is this true?

(To pre-empt any discussions about linguistics, two dictionaries are happy with the word "styluses".)

Cheers,

Richard

I've had a perfectly wonderful evening. But this wasn't it.

Subject: Email left on ISP

Greetings to all from Oz!

I do not understand when I use Email to download messages and save to my Inbox etc how it is that the emails, once read and deleted on my MalayBook, remain out there on my ISP. I think I have gone through all the various settings and preferences but I an't work this out. At the moment I have to use my PC to go back to my server, download and delete read emails. Maybe I'm just a Wally but can anyone please advise?

Re.: netBook Pro Symbian - Journalists write about newsworthy items, not what they care about. I fully respect you received sofar 2,000 signatures, but still don't believe 2,000 people signing a petition will change the policy of Companies. How many of the 2,000 would translate their signature into a purchase ?

>> We know exactly what the critical volume is << Well, what is the

>> critical volume and what guarantee do you have that _if_ you will get

>> above that volume Psion will listen to the petition and create such a machine ? No, not if you do it smartly and leverage to the maximum on ongoing smartphone development. << But in another message you admit that it is a problem that exi ting ER5 software will not work on such a machine. Why would I spend the money on a new nB Pro if I can't transfer all my existing software with it ? I might as well migrate to another platform that will continue to be developed in the future together wit all the third party share- and freeware available for such a machine. For example, I use Route- and Streetplanner extensively on my S7. A nB Pro running Symbian will not be able to run this software, so I would have to invest in a separate GPS/route syst m. So I might just as well update to a PocketPC or Palm that will run the latest versions of this software. What would a Psion be without macro5 and Assistant, dictionaries, ABP, games, Money, MBMView, etc. ?

Again, I wish the group a lot of success, but I don't think I _personally_ would go for a nB Pro running Symbian OS. By the way, will the nB Classic as  you call it be continued or has production ceased ?

Re. Backing up 5mx ? - Paul, pls note that Chris is right. Once you copied the files of your internal disk onto a CF card, you stick the card reader into the PC and copy the contents to the directory _you_ want on your PC with windows. The PC will see he CF card as just another drive in My Computer. Of course you will copy _all_ files this way, so maybe it is best to open two folders and each time back-up into one folder before deleting the older files in the second folder (to avoid the remote chance t at something goes wrong while copying and at the same time your Psion stops working as well ...).

Re. Hanging Psion - Yes, lately we do hear a lot about this problem. Personally I now use an ADSL connection at home and work with MochaPPP and away from home mainly GPRS. Maybe someone should collect data with which ISP this occurs to check whether th re are certain ISP's that are preferable for users of Psions ? Using mail.com should indeed not be a problem as in the end you collect the email from your "real" ISP (I use Freeserve and Compuserve). Anthony advised us that for him a change of ISP did hel .

Re. Dana + Treo Update - How does the screen of a TREO or Clie work with WORD and SHEET files ? Are the screens not too small for serious work on these machines ?  This week I met with potential clients for a photo job and the thumb board was more than adequate to make short notes about their requirements etc., specially when putting it flat on a table. But I have some serious SHEET files on my S7 which I think would be very hard to read and understand on my Clie. Still experimenting.

Re.: Microsoft - I don't like them either, but in the end I think most Companies would do the same given the chance ( and did not many try ?). Another thought, why is it that no other Companies clone Apple machines ? Do they keep the OS to themselves a well ?

Dear Chris,

am I having Deja Vu or did I see this same post in the previous digest? ;)

You can try getting a USB to Serial Adaptor for your laptop. They typically come with software and will setup a serial port through the adaptor. You can then use it as you normally would for serial connections with your Psion. There have been some post on this topic with advise on the type of adaptor to get and other issues to look out for previously in this digest. You might want to do a search on the digest archives, you might find the posts of interest to you.

You don't need a CF card reader if the above setup works, and then only if you are interested in transferring files as opposed to synchronisation of data.

Warm regards,

Koi Hin
