I just got a hold of one of these modems. They are very addictive as you do not need to plug the Psion to the modem. However, the modem came as is with no manuals or documentation. Are they fax enabled?

Hi there,

I want to read during the email receiving process all informations, sent and received at the port 110.

Do someone know such a program or the way to do that?

(The Email application does it, if you create the folder \Logs\Email\. But this information is readable only after closing the connection. I want to evaluate however the information during the receiving)

Any hints are appreciated.

Thanks in advance

In order for a downloaded wedpage to work correctly the author need to include a <BASE HREF="original web page address"> tag in the header of the page. When a browser sees one of these it will then use it as the base for all relative URLS. If you are confident with an editor (and know the original address) you could edit the downloaded file and insert the necessary tag.

I have tried contacting webmasters about this and the responses range from lack of interest to lack of understanding...

Dear Owen,

OM>My moan and question to the list is does anyone know why there are so damned many different flash card formats?

I usually glance rapidly through the digest and focus on items of interest to me, so I didnt see your subject heading the first time round while reading your post. As you were talking about the XD card you got, I was thinking to myself I am pretty behind techwise because I have never heard of this card before. Then read the second paragraph. :) I dont know the real answer, I am sure some others on this digest is better equip to answer that question than I am, but you do have my sympathy and the hope that the industry will at least choose to adopt a common media platform and stick to that at least for a few years life-span. If after that time, I need to upgrade to a new type of memory card, I can live with that.

I have apparently lost the PsiWin 2.3.3 ability to link my PC (running Windows ME) to my Psion 5mx. The PC simply doesn't recognise the Psion is there (I've done all the usual checks - eg cable connection etc.).

I have tried uninstalling PsiWin, running Mike McConnell's PsiWin registry cleaner and re-installing to no avail. That's because I get a message telling me that some PsiWin elements are still on the PC and need removing first. I have used Add/Remove Pro to get rid of the PsiWin, apparently successfully.

Does anyone have any idea about where to look for these so-called elements, what they may be & how I can get rid of them to make a fresh start?

Well, eBook is the eBook reader I use.

If there are any UofV books you'd like to see in .tcr format, let me

know, and I'll .tcr them.

The current collection of .tcr'd books can be found at

www.gawnsoft.co.sr, along with a link to Simon Quinn's eBook (the

app) download site.

Is UofV the host for Project Gutenberg?  If so, they tend to be in

either .txt or PalmDOC format.  eBook reads PalmDOCs.

I tcr them for myself because .tcrs end up smaller.

The other option for Psions is to use Mobipocket.  It might do .lit

format.  (But it tries to do book management for you, which just

annoys me too much.

I certainly agree that "your" style has the big advantage of working with any reader's word-wrap width automatically, but since the Psion Email program does not actually support it, I decided to be pragmatic and use a system which doesn't need support of the email program.

It would be trivial for Psion Email to support your style (e.g. colour different levels of indentation), but it doesn't, and sadly will never do so :-(

I would just point out that FastBackup does all this.  Perhaps I'll look at trying to improve the help file...

The next version of FastBackup will make it easy to add single files for backup, although the current version already supports this if you add the filename manually.

When Money is first run, it modify's it's own :System\Money\Money.exe file to only work on the Psion that it was run on.  Therefore you need to reinstall Money to get a "fresh" exe file, or someone could send you just the exe file & let you install it manually.

I recommend keeping a ZIPed copy of the exe file (BEFORE running it!), so that you won't be caught-out in the future.

Well, not "given up" exactly, but there's no point my spending ages adding features that I won't use & which already exist in another program!

I would still be happy to provide minor corrections & improvements, just not totally new features.

You can easily 'add' this yourself!  Open the supplied source code, search for the line 'SendKey:("Ct+a")' (withOUT the single 'quotes'), and then EITHER delete the line OR put the word 'REM' before it.  Then tap the Translate button to produce a new OPO macro file.

Ahem.  IIRC, that was added as an attempt to work-around a bug where occasionally the last character was lost.  It didn't work, so probably I should remove it & maybe even look for the real cause!

Yes, it WOULD be possible, but I feel that it would be misleading while the macro canNOT backup using Profile mode...

You can add it yourself by opening the FastBackup source code, searching for the line "action% = 2", and replace it with "action% = 4".

Hmmm, you mean make it stop asking you whether to run all profiles when you first hit the "Go!" button?  I can see your reasoning, but I am worried that inexperienced users may accidentally backup using Profiles mode instead of simple Backup mode.  I sided with being "idiot proof"!

You could always customise FastBackup to YOUR liking by editing the OPL source code, assuming you know enough OPL to spot what needs removing or changing.

Regards,

Chris Handley

P.S.  Feel free to make constructive complaints about FastBackup, or ask dumb questions - you never know, FB may get improved as a result!  :-)

I would suggest that Macro5's recording capability should be sufficient to solve your problem:

Simply start recording a macro on the System screen, press enter to make the Editor open the file, type the <HTML> bit you need at the start of the text, press Ctrl-E to save & close it, and then stop recording the macro.

It would be possible to implement a simple macro which does this without needing Editor even installed, but I am not sure it is worth it...?

Purely by coincidence, I've been looking through the Netpad SDKs'

netpad documents, and came across the stuff on how to use the

rotatable display.

To use the vertical display, the app needs to have code in it which explicitly calls the display-portrait routines.  I'm guessing they

didn't bother to re-write the standard S5 apps specifically for the netpad.

I had actually been toying with creating a portrait-display facility for my S5 myself,  as I find that I use eBook in that layout all the time,

and there are other datasets I'd like to view that way, like certain Sheets.

But it's a lot of work to make a Data viewer, or a Sheet-viewer, so

it's unlikely I'll get around to it in any useful timescale...

Simon, are you on the Digest's List?  If so, are you at all interested

in making your display-portrait facilities available for use by apps

other than eBook?

A file without the <HTML> tag in the beginning is NOT a valid HTML file.

Because HTML files doesn't have any 'magic numbers' or other unique ID's built-in, that's the only way to make certain that the file IS a HTML file.

Therefore, it's NOT nconvert that's broken, but the programs used to generate the files in the first place.

If nConvert can't handle a few line breaks in the file first, though....

That may be a bug...

Hi All,

Many thanks for your prompt assistance tracing my errant Contacts file.

All however is not well.

Having located the Contacts.cdb file on D:system/data, I copied it across to C:system/data. However when pressing silkscreen 'Contacts', the application starts up ok, but then hangs telling me that:

"The contacts store was not found on disk C"

I have tried both alternatives then presented, that is, pressing 'Esc' and trying to reload, and 'Ctrl+N' to create a new store. Having located where this new store in sys/dats, I have deleted the 3Kb 'Contacts.dbf' file there and replaced it with the backup version, 52Kb. This fails to trick the !Contacts app into opening.

I assume there must be some registry/install file that needs editing/deleting so that I can open my contacts backup. I have tried directly importing the .cdb file into !Contacts, no success here either.

If it helps, sometime ago I ran the demo version of MBM's !IContacts, I know there are some legacy bits'n'pieces remaining on disk. How these may affect the main Contacts app I'm unsure.

All help welcome. TIA. Seasons best also.

And it was AT&K3 that got the T610 to respond with ERROR.

Also I can pull up a JPG attachment on the 5mx and view it but when I try to access it from the attachment on the MBook, I get a message:

Cannot open the Web program - Web not designed to run on this machine.

Guess I'm in for a long bout of printing out the manuals and setting etc.  I remember it has something to do with the Us-isp file (where to put it) and probably a further install of either web (from my 5mx ) or Opera (from the

CD).

Bottom line - Fantastic machine.  And they sent it charged so I can play with it for a long time before I buy the adapter from Radio Shack.

Eleanor was complaining that she had decided on a whim "Me too!!!) and (before it arrived) as saying we should have ordered only one.  Now that's she's

played with hers, she is very thrilled and not regretting the purchase.  Our Xmas presents to each other this year.

From: Manuel Campos Galvan

Subject: Abandoning Netbook

Unfortunately in recent days I had to replace the screen of my Netbook at an outrageous cost. USD$400.00. At that price, plus the initial investment on the Netbook, plus the replacement keyboard a few months ago which cost me USD250 at Psion, has made the Netbook a quite expensive proposition to maintain in the future.

My Netbook has served me well as a mobile office using it for word processing spreadsheets, very very heavy email (upwards of 100 emails per day), heavy faxing, generating PDF files, contacts, databases, and of course handling the digest. As a matter of fact, the Netbook took on the role of fixed office after 9/11 when my office was destroyed and handled the load impeccably (it also was the sole surviving repository of large amounts of client data, documents, templates, contracts, etc. thanks to the IBM 1 GB Drive).

However, both the slow demise of the ER5 machines and my evolving needs (including being on the losing battle with email. With such a large volume is very difficult to justify doing the filing, categorizing and sorting of emails twice). Investigating the marketplace, I found a sharp machine, model Actius MM10 which is lighter than the netbook, runs Windoze (which means I can handle the complex word and wordperfect document that otherwise I was unable to handle on my netbook), it allows me to synchronize Eudora Mail and all its attachments, access the databases from the office via VPN (tried Citrix and the VCN Console, but they were very slow for my purposes) and basically be a more effective extension of my office.

Unfortunately, this means that I will have to part with my Netbook and related gadgetry. I am not jumping ship on EPOC as I am keeping my trusty 5mx by my side (I actually got a spare 5mx PRO from POS on the Safe Deposit Box)and will continue to use it as long as physically possible (I have not looked for a replacement, but from all the comments here and in Psion Place there is no sure 5mx replacement yet).

So, as much as it hurts me to depart from the Netbook, I am sure there will be aloving home that will adopt him and take care of him. Thus, the Digest has preference (before going to ebay) to make a reasonable offer on these items (as a lot or separately) by emailing me Off Digest.
