Hmmmmm... Pot calls kettle black ( 4 itamar : de pot verwijt de ketel dat ze zwart ziet ) I get lots of spam relayed through Outblaze's systems
Also it is true that much of it comes from the RBOC's and cableco's in North America as well as as other parts of the world
The details : Spam only takes a minuscule dent out of the total available bandwidth and system resources of a telephone/cable operator Voice traffic in the case of a telco and audio/video programming in the case of a cableco is the biggest chunk of their traffic
A single voice/fax call generated more traffic than all spam sent during 24 hours from one (trojaned ) machine on their network
Trow in the "we hebben geen boodschap aan de boodschap " attitude in telcoland and you get the idea
Still don't believe this ?

Subject: The Great Psion Giveaway!
Moved up(?) to a NetBook Pro and so am having a clearout of my EPOC stuff. So the following is available on a first-come, first-served basis. With one exception all you need do is pay the postage.
OK so I have:
- Presentation Maker (2 floppies and the manual)
- SimCity (1 floppy + manual)
- Collins English/French Dictionary (1 Cd + manuals)
- Programming Psion Computers (Book + CD)
- Palmtop magazine (issues 13 - 37) & Palmtop User (issues 1, 2, 5 & 6)
These are too heavy to send so are collect only. I am in Reading, UK.
If you are interested in any items then please email me and we'll arrange something.
Thanks
Neil

Nothing,
it is a good program that fixed my Revo+ and it's internet connection problems. However when it was first posted the download site was not an official Psion site and therefore of concern for the suspicious minded.

I have found an old US Robotics modem (56k FaxModem). I have connected to my ISP OK, but the sound (white noise) keeps going all the time that I am connected. Is this a faulty modem or a setting that needs changing?
Crontab worked for me before patch2 and continues to work afterwards! Very good! What are other people using CronTab for?

Ah, this is much more like it! Not since the introduction of the S5 in 1997 have I felt so excited (note - I must get out more!) We could be looking here at a true Symbian successor to our beloved 5 at last. OK, I bet the keyboard won't be as good (who could better the 5's?) but that list of features Itamar listed a couple of Digests ago are just great! My personal experience of the original 9210 (which I used for 18 months until a broken screen made it uneconomical to fix) was that it was nearly there as a 5mx replacement but not quite - this new machine though sounds a much better beast with a decent amount of memory at last and I wait with bated breath for the first review on it :-)
Now, time for curiosity to step in. As it has Wi-Fi, presumably (with the right equipment) one could use it only as a PDA as the Internet connection could be made via a landline? Also presumably, if someone has a PAYG SIM that does not support data or fax this could still be inserted into the machine to use the phone side for PAYG voice calls, giving the user the best of both worlds, i.e. PAYG voice calls plus fax and data via a landline?

For example - I bought and Orinoco card so that I could connect with my DSL wireless modem. But the Orinoco came with a CDRom which I used to install software on my desktop PC. All well and good. But don't I have to get some of that software onto the MBook? How can I do that? I can't use the connecting cord that I bought from Expansys because that needs a 9 pin serial port at the desktop end and I don't have one free. So I'd hoped to use the Orinoco card -- for which purpose I gather than I need to be able to get the Orinoco drivers onto the Mbook, which takes me into a vicious circle. <<
You don't need to install any drivers on your Mbook; the card will either be recognised by the Mbook when you insert it, or it won't. The only drivers you need, and certainly the only drivers available for the netBook, are already installed as part of the OS. Whether or not your WiFi card is actually recognised by your Mbook depends on the chipset used in the card.
Hope this helps, Cheers, Ian.

As can be seen from my address, I use freeserve. But I'm receiving many virus/junk e-mails. It would be nice if they bounced them rather than putting them into my inbox!

Let's hope that it's a CF card.

I just sighted a Psion ad.
In the film "Space truckers". SF from 1999 with Dennis Hopper.
It is an a billboard from the year 2196 at the space-highway from mars to the neptuns-moon triton. It says "PSION Series 3". (Appr. 5 min after beginning of the film.)
Psee you,

The MnetBook already come with the drivers in it. No need to install anything.

Subject: MBook modem phone numbers
In my frustrated attempts to connect my MBook to my e-mail and my desktop, I've encountered yet another roadblock. I tried to set up the goldcard modem that I got with the MBook - only to find that the setup screens insist upon including both the country code and the area code in the dial up number, with the result that it dials the wrong number, since neither of those codees is necessary in order to reach my ISP. I've fiddled and diddled. But the only result is that the dialup number is now a mishmash of double country codes, zeroes and the area code - finally terminated by the local number, which is all that I want in there. I now see that if I could get the gold card or the WiFi orinoco card to work, I could communicate with my desktop using ftp. But so far, my MBook is a self-contained monad that I can't seem to connect to the wider world in any way. How can I persuade it to only dial the local number?

Have Nokia yet again crippled the poor thing with a measly amount of RAM or have they finally seen the error of their ways and allowed the Symbian OS to fly with a decent amount of headroom? I for one am very interested in this new product but won't even consider one in the future unless that RAM is at least 16Mb this time - I speak from bitter experience with my old 9210; it was a fine machine in many ways but completely spoilt (IMHO) by this very annoying limitation.<<
Nokia quotes 80 megs of total memory , personally I think they can't get away with anything less than 16 megs of RAM ( the n-gage has 16 megs of RAM ! ) so I suspect it will have at least that and more likely 32 megs of RAM
if they use XIP for both OS and onboard apps then 16 megs will suffice
The price makes it a real PDA killer however ...

At EUR 800 this is likely to kill off devices like Sharp's SL-C series and Sony's PEG - UX models as the size is smaller , the functionality is greater and battery life probably better
My guess is that this one will last at least 3-4 years and that the next iteration will be a laptop-killer device
>>Palmtop User - http://www.palmtop.co.uk/<<
Now is the time to make Palmtop User completely Web-based , more Symbian-centric (SymbOS 32 R6.1 and above ) and part of the 3-Lib site and phase out the paper magazine completely
Comments welcome
