To Itamar,

Re.: Serial to USB - and MochaPPP

To be honist I gave up on MochaPPP as I found connections was not

working.  This was both at home (No USB adaptor) and in the office (USB

adaptor).  My settings were Com port same as Psiwin and connection speed

57600.  I have ActivceSynch installed on the same PC and it does sometimes

latch onto that.  Other settings on the Psion are:

Speed: 57600

Connection: Cable

Fax Class: Auto

Loudspeaker in use: Never

Flow Conrol: Hardware (RTS/CTS)

Modem Type: Fixed Line

All other settings are left blank.

I have never had the discooect problem.  Sometimes I got data transfer and

sometimes not.  Sorry not much help.  I did liase with NetbookBabe (PDA

Street Forum) who had got it working, though I gave up in the end and went

the WiFi route at the office and home.

Subject: 5mx backlight failure

The image on 5mx screen is fine, but the backlight has failed: though it

comes on when I have the clamshell nearly completely closed.

Is there any alternative to a 75-pound standard service at POS? Having had

them do a screen-cable repair last December, I'm really reluctant to spend

the money all over again.

Best,

Chris

Another problem, apart from the backlight failure that I've described in

another post. The stylus won't stay in its holder. It meets a bit of

springiness when I push it all the way in, but it doesn't click into place.

Yes, I *have* tried inserting my fingernail into the appointed slot next to

the serial port. Absolutely no use.

TIA,

Chris

Subject: MaM - Menus and More

Ciao All!

I just would like to draw your attention on a new application called MaM,

alias Menus and More by Wolfgang Golder

http://www.freepoc.org/viewapp.php?id=56

I have no doubt that requenting Psion-related forums on the internet and

receiving the Epoc Digest has been an important reference for improving the

usage of ER5 machines on my part.

in the meantime, starting using apps such as SaveMail, Macro5, ExAb and

others boosted my personal productivity.

MaM is a kind of additional menu which each one of us will be free to

customize according to his needs and is helping me making a few steps forward.

Just in the case of someone's interest here is a link to a thread in

pdastreet, where we are discussing about it

By doing this, I wish to symbolically express my personal gratitude to

Wolfgang, as well as to all the developers committed to release new

applications for our OPL-driven machines.

Answer to: Terry Gordon

Re.: Mbook turning itself back on - With me it is slightly different. When

it happens, I can't switch my mB off. I swtch it off and immediately it

comes on again. This usually happens 3 times one after the other and than

it switches off again. I never have the occasion (AFAIK) that it switches

on after a minute or more.

Re.: MBook problems - Great that you worked it out. Wifi is great fun, I

use my mBook all over th house but in the bath as I am too afraid it will

fall in. Great fun if you need to "lock yourself up" for some peace and

quietness from the family ..... <BG>

Subject: Palmtop user

Well well, the next issue of Palmtop User arrived, issue no. 8. At the

moment it is my last issue, depending on my decisions in the next month or

so whether I will renew my subscription or not. The size is still down from

earlier issue's from around 125 pages to around 94.

Several interesting matters hit my eyes :

- Clove in the UK still sells 5MX's for Gbp 195.-, series 3MX for Gbp 123.-

- Motorola goes Microsoft with the MPx100 smartphone

- Philips Electronics joins Symbian

- Bluetooth landline modem to use bluetooth between your landline and your

PDA

- Nothing anymore about EPOC software, only Symbian

- Full size infrared / bluetooth keyboard for PDA's

- The future : PDA projecting a virtual keyboard on any flat surface which can

be used to type.

Subject: New phone / PDA

It is the time of the year again, my phone contract is almost finished and

I feel much like moving from Vodaphone to one of the other suppliers to try

and get a better deal. With that decision comes up the matter of choosing a

new phone. Until now I have always been of the opinion that I want to

separate between my phone and my PDA. However, with the slowly disappearing

Psions's I will have to think ahead. Another factor is that I am not really

happy with my Sony Clie NX70, although I can't define exactly why.

So ..... yes, I am wondering whether or not I should go for the P900 with

Symbian software, and buy a full size keyboard with it (infrared or

bluetooth) to do any serious work. I will try and orientate myself on this

phone, but any remarks or opinions from others most welcome.

Finally found the Digest Index. Unfortunately #552 doesn't show up. The

list jumps from 551 to 553.  :-(

However, farther down today's digest, Alan Morris sent the reference I

needed - thanks, Alan

Thanks for your message Vlad - but your Street seems to be different from

mine. As far as I can see the only .sis files on the CD which I have are

for the program itself; the others you mention - for decoding the maps - do

not exist, nor is there a document referring to any. However, a friend

kindly installed Street for me yesterday via his Windows PC.

Route Planner is a different matter indeed, and I've had no problem there,

thanks no doubt to the download which I mentioned in my earlier posting.

Kind regards --------- Bruce K.

Subject: Windows XP

This has probably been brought up before, but I now have Windows XP and

have the latest Psiwin.  I can't seem to get them to connect.  I will keep

trying.  I used to have Windows ME and it worked fine.  Hopefully just an

adjustment or two to make.  Any suggestions would be helpful.  I am using

the same settings as I did before.

Thanks,

Bob

I forgot to mention that I have to use the USB to Serial Adapter now.  That

shouldn't make a different, I don't think.

Thanks,

Toby,

I am doing what you want to do but with a Revo and a Treo 90 (Palm OS

4.0).  If you use a PC, this should be easy.  Use Outlook and synch your

Psion.  Your datebook and address book will be synched with Outlook.  Then

connect your Palm, use Palm's Hot Synch and synch with Outlook.
