I've been a very occasional contributor to the digest over a number of years.
I have had a Psion computer since a series 3. Up until now I have been very content with my Psion series 5 that has served me well.
I recently managed to purchase a series 5mx from a colleague at work...what a speed difference. Anyway, I have got all my data and applications across to the new machine apart from one crucial item. I use Palmtop London street planner, as part of my work in London, unfortunately the application wants me to install it from the original CD. I purchased and downloaded street planner from Palmtop's web site and have changed PC's a number of times since the original download, the original download is now not on my hard drive.
Does anyone know how to get around this? I can't locate Street Planner anywhere on the Internet for a series 5 anymore.
Your help will be much appreciated.
Regards,
Mark.

Guys & Gals
You may remember many digests ago I posted about how I'd acquired a netpad, and how it had a duff internal backup battery. Here is an update:
POS can't fix netpads so you have to go back to Psion. Psion won't deal direct with the public so you have to find a helpful reseller who will give you an account and deal upon your behalf. Enter Paradigm Mobile solutions, who seem to have become I2 Mobile solutions part way through this, or was
it vice-versa...?
Paradigm set me up with an account and I posted the netpad off to them. They then forwarded it to Psion (in France apparently) for repair, with a note that it may take up to 3 months! I was given an RMA to track the
repair with. Well, time passed and eventually I chased up the RMA to see what was occurring. At this point it transpired that Psion had not in fact been fixing my machine at all. They had lost it!
Psion were quite apologetic about this and have replaced my lost broken netpad with a new machine, hurrah!
I'm slowly getting used to the netpad, some apps are quite annoying to use as they are 100% keyboard based where as others are fine. As I used to do a lot of data entry to Word (yes, I know but as I only wanted a delimited
file to feed into a pc database it seemed like the best option on my 3a and I haven't changed since...)
Somebody was posting about wanting some testers for their software. If you want it checked out on a netpad then drop me an email. prar [at] i [dot] am reconstructed to a 9 character string should find me. (Or post the download URL here with an open invite).
The one top tip I have from all this is beware of moving applications from one device to another when you move data cards around or when you restore backed up data. Just move your documents folders about reinstall all the applications from scratch.
PS I posted this from my PC - I currently don't have the patience to tap this out on the netpad.

Thanks for your comments Andrew. I noticed this again while the green level was full, when I tapped on the screen icon 4, where Chadis7 is. This was down to 10v and all red.

Thanks Keith, I'll update.

Subject: netBook Backlight
I have previously posted here about my belief that my Psion netBook screen is gradually getting darker, particularly when first switching on. Once more, I found myself checking the control panel this morning to see if the brightness had reset. The problem has nothing to do with temperature other than it seems to brighten markedly after a few minutes use.
Trying to find out more about backlight longevity I checked out http://www.pacificdisplay.com/design_lcd.htm and wondered just what technology Psion used for the netBook. My recollection is that it might be EL panel. This seems to have the shortest life, quoted at less than 400 hours to half intensity. I suppose one needs to bear in mind this is still 10 years or so with one hour of use per day.
Mind you for some subscribers here 4000 hours may only be about 24 weeks! Anyone else experiencing similar problems?
