Hi, Andre,

since 10th of Aug the Digest is bouncing by your provider with the (unclear) report "Delivery to the following recipients failed". As this was happen many times aready in July, I unsubscribed you temporarily for 2 weeks.

May be you will read this in the Digest stored at the website and you will have the possibility to fix this with your provider.

Good choice!

>one, and while we are on the subject their PsiWin style program can't do incremental backups. You can only back up the whole phone, or the memory stick not just the new changes. This has lead me to keep critical files on

No, the PC Suite ONLY does incremental backups. Try it. Do a backup and then change one file and try again. You'll see the backup take a fraction of the time. Caveat: I've got the very latest PC Suite, it's possible that you've got the early one that did backups differently.

>the phone and just back those up. The USB connection is actually an emulated serial connection and rather slow if you have a 128MB memory stick installed...

True, but a card reader is great for zapping over 100MB of .OGG files 8-))

>can't define your own folders in the email program so there seems to be no way of storing important emails or sms text messages for future reference. I've ended up copying and pasting the text into a blank

There are a number of clipboard utilities which might do the job. Can't think of their names off-hand though...

>Quickoffice document as a work around but it's not ideal.

True. Wish they'd develop this more. ____________________________________________________________________

Well done Rolf

----------------

I don't think you're going to be popular this week, as you sent issue:575 via BCC, which included a large list of members email addresses. Oops!

Opera anomaly

-----------------

I have encountered a problem with Opera 5.14 failing to execute Javascript from a cached document and I was wondering if anyone knows how to resolve this problem without me stopping the caching of documents? I wrote the following simple html document as an example of the problem.

<html>

<head>

</head>

<body>

<input type="button" name="btnTest" id="btnTest" value="Test" onClick="javascript:alert('Hello')">

<input type="button" name="btnGoogle" id="btnGoogle" value="Google" onClick="javascript:document.location='http://www.google.com'">

</body>

</html>

The problem occurs, when you leave the page, for example clicking the Google button and go back to the page (CTRL+g). When returning to the page, the javascript commands are no longer executing. As a result, the test button no longer displays the alert and the Google button no longer jumps to Google.

disabling the caching of documents works, but is not ideal. I have considered using meta tags, but these are often useless. Any help would be appreciated.

Missing Issues

-----------------

As the Psioneering site is updated infrequently, I cannot verify this to be the case, but as of Digest issue 568, it appears I have missed several issues in between, specifically: 569, 571, 573, 574 and am wondering if this is because the numbering sequence is out of step, or I simply was never sent them? I realise the procedure for compiling and distributing issues of the Digest is somewhat manual, but am wondering if there is a process for notifying admin that some have been missed? If the numbering sequence is guaranteed to be in step, maybe a Digest reply could be instituted similar to the 'ADMIN' reply where missing issues could be resent? Maybe a reply with a subject of "RESEND" and a body of"569, 571, 573, 574"? Other than that, what is left is a lengthy wait to read them on the Psioneering website, which defeats the purpose of a mailing list.

Answer to: U Hornstein

Re.: Route Maps for Northern Ireland - N. Ireland is indeed part of the UK map. I am afraid that this cannot be separated from the UK and you will need the full UK map. At the time the UK was sold on a separate CD from the rest of Europe.

Re.: Psion turns its nose up at consumer - Well, I suppose that as a commercial Company Psion Teklogix is allowed to choose it's target market and set it strategy accordingly. It fits quite well in the general strategy of the Company which came more from the side of Teklogix having always been active in the business market and from where the majority of their products came. Psion, as we know, has abandoned the consumer market, the netBook was already corporate only with some sales via post order Companies. We don't like it of course, but i don't think they are worried about that.

Although I only use Psions for e-mail, IE is easier for newsgroups (RMRnews is useless on most news servers) and browsing.

I have 'Text2Web' on my w98 box.  It came on a cover CD.  (see www.virdi.demon.co.uk )  This converts a .TXT file to a .HTML file.

On the w98 I have a file URL.TXT, where I copy any URL found on a web page (right click - copy shortcut).  Both Text2Web and the text file are in my Taskbar, so are easy to access.

I also have a file on my Psion called URL.txt and I copy/paste to it from any Digest or e-mail.  I copy the URL followed by a couple of spaces and then notes about why I want to have a look etc.

The contents of the Psion file are copied <Ctrl+C> to the w98 file <Ctrl+V> using 'CopyAnywhere', which is part of PsiWin.  Then I run 'Text2Web'.  The .HTML file is my home page.

So when I start IE, all the URLs and my notes are visable.  I just right click and open in a new window any URL.

I've thought about copying back the .HTML file to a Psion to see if it would work in Web or Opera.  If it does then I might think about an OPL to do the same as 'Text2Web' for when I'm not at home with w98.
