Answer to: Neil Ogden
Re.: Synchronisation error - Usually it happens twice a year when readjusting for summer / winter time. It probably has something to do with your time settings that changed. The internal disk does not take that much time, any CF cards try and copy it onto the PC via a CF reader into the same folder as Psiwin puts it and maybe next time it will be ok again. I have the same problem myself and have (still) not taken the CF reader to work to solve it. However, I hardly change anything on the D disk so the risk is small. Should do it really.
To All:
It appears we have lot's of questions about the new and upcoming Nokia's and SE's and very few answers as yet. Could those already using these machines try and give the readers some answers ? Thanks in advance.

Re.: p800 Jot Recognition - On my Sony Ericsson palm I have got a program called "Decuma" that recognises handwriting. I find however I can't write at speed as if I write too fast it will combine the strokes of 2 letters into one incorrect one, and if I make a mistake I am already several letters further before I notice it. I think a thumbboard is still better but the disadvantage is that so many keys are "hidden" to be activated together with 2 colour buttons that I forever search for caracters.
Re. P800 - Thanks for your further comments. What do you mean with "flip closed" ? And what program is "Active Desk" ? I already use GPRS for quite some time, specially when outside of the UK on busines trips (in the UK I mainly use my ADSL lines at work and home). It is indeed a lot faster and better than dial up connections.

Re.: Why not buy a new 5mx? - Sure, why not ? The only reasons I can think of is that it will not allow you to make use of the newer technology like Wifi and Bluetooth for example, and you will still miss the colour screen. I suppose it is easy enough to make some money on small production runs of new machines made from spare parts (were there that many ?) but to come out with a new one with an updated oclour screen, latest technology and reasonable battery life would mean a major R&D investment and having to sell hundreds of thousands of them. I don't know how large the market segment is for that and whether the USA market can be swayed into using alternatives for WindowsCE or PocketPC or Palm. So, the combination of a 5MX or a nB/mB together with a smaller PDA/phone certainly makes sense (IMHO).

Re.: Data Netbook > Nokia 9300? - I don't think there is a conversion program available from one to the other. Your Agenda you could do via Outlook and data files you could copy to .csv files and import into the Nokia. Your contacts appears to be the biggest problem as the netBook can only export one contact at a time and you would have to beam over each one separately (I only keep email addresses in Contacts, all other data are in databases). Spreadsheets you would probably have to translate from the nB to a PC in excel format and than translate back into the Nokia, unless it has a function to translate EPOC sheet files.

To quote infosyncworld (http://www.infosyncworld.com/news/n/5312.html):
"...Far lighter and more compact than the Nokia 9500, the 9300 foregoes the inclusion of Wi-Fi 802.11b support and an integrated digital camera, but is otherwise virtually identical to the 9500 what regards features..."

Hello group,
Itamar, the main difference between the 9300 and the 9500 is that the 9300 lacks the camera and WiFi. According to Nokia the reason for the lack of the camera is that cameras are not allowed in many serious business environments (I can confirm this - it is illegal in many places where I come). As for WiFi: this is - according to Nokia - still a battery drain and it has been removed on user requests. If anyone wants it: there is still the 9500.
The main shape difference is the size. It should be as big as a Nokia 6210. Ahem... now I am getting worried about the keyboard size !
About the WiFi: we can use Bluetooth for our home networks and on the road GPRS begins to have interesting prices. The Dutch KPN Telecom will have the offer of 1 Go for 75 euros. That is still *glup*, but public (official !) WiFi is also still sold at high prices.
However, I like the WiFi on my mBook and I am still contemplating the 9500. Guess I have to smuggle the camera inside.
"Ah, is that a camera ? Gee... I never knew that ! " <bg>
Hope this helps,
Thomas

Just not one the size of the present Communicator.
Also once you have tried GPRS you won't want to go back to 9.6k dial-up<<<<

Subject: Cheap mobile Internet in Belgium
Hello group,
I just acquired an interesting tip from the newsgroups. Scarlet Telecom (www.scarlet.be) offers Scarlet Free Go. This free internet subscription has a dialup number (nr. 4200) on the BASE mobile network and this number is charged at offpeak rates.
BASE supports HSCSD, which means that if you use a Nokia that supports this standard, you can surf at approximately 43 kbps. BASE prepaid cards cost EUR 28 with EUR 28 of initial value. The initial peak tariff is 35 cpm and the initial offpeak tarif is 12 cpm.
For foreigners who travel regularly to Belgium it might be very interesting to purchase a BASE prepaid card, as this specific offer is probably cheaper than any GPRS offer.
BASE sometimes also offers free BASE-to-BASE calls for a limited time, which means that we can benefit from real flat fee Internet !
Yours sincerely,
Thomas VAN DER ZIJDEN

At Heathrow airport T4 I noticed at the Dixon's store a JVC small
notebook hardly larger than the netBook. It has a full working windows
system, 256 mb memory and 40 Gb harddisk. If someone is looking to
replace the netBook with a small notebook and a smartphone this could be
for you, however the price is steep, Gbp 1,399.-. I took a photo with my
palm but can't read the details on it <GB, what would you expect> (End

The JVC MiniNote range
(http://www.jvc.com/product.jsp?productId=PRD5700000&pathId=88) has
been popular for quite some years now. It replaces the excellent Toshiba
Libretto range. The Librettos provided pintsized computing. A Windows 98
machine in a box about the size of a Video tape. I had a Libretto 70CT
but it failed too often at school and the keyboard was too small. Also,
with any PC, you have to wait for it to boot up and you have battery
issues. However the integrated WiFi and DVD Player can make it up! Stick
with a netBook/Series 7 as long as you can or wait for the new 9500
Communicator.

Hi, I know there are issues with the SE pc suite and windows 98 1st edition, if you have the 2nd Edition (SE) things should work okay.
The earliest versions of pc suite didn't even support windows earlier than ME, but I've had no problems with win 98SE.

Hi,
battery life on the 9210 communicator was supposed to be pretty amazing, it will be a lithium ion / lithium polymer battery, these have no memory effect so you can charge them anytime and are easily replaceable just by removing a clip on rear cover.

Oh yes, the JVC MININOTE, a cute bit of kit I've often admired myself as a potential Libretto replacement. Alas they have lost the plot with the latest version imho as they have added an internal optical drive at the expense of making the battery external (doh)

Mike Dyer.
