Subject: p800 Jotter Files
Hi all,
does anyone know the location of Jotter files on a SE p series phone ?
I've amassed quite a few but am a bit concerned about retrieving them from a backup if necessary .
Thanks ,

Subject: Revo + Siemens SX1
Does anyone have experience of the connectability of the Revo Plus and Siemens SX1?
I have not used the IR connection to transfer contacts to a phone since my Ericsson T39 gave up the ghost last year and since I can get this phone for a very good price I would like to have the same connectivity I had with the T39.
Any advice would be appreciated

Itamar,

For the non-native English speakers among us, the phrase "every other day" actually means every two days. On that basis, your "...at least 3 times a week..." is effectively the same.
Cheers, Ian.

Subject: Corrupt agenda file
HI Everyone,
I'm still lurking, glad to say.
I noticed the thread regarding a corrupt agenda file. Just to say that several years ago I had a similar problem but was able to fix it by opening the file with the emulator. I can't remember the details, but it was something to do with splitting or merging large files.
Hope this helps,
Chris

I just spotted in Amateur Photographer that www.digitaldepot.co.uk have 1 Gig Kingston CF cards for UKP 55.69. It doesn't say whether it's CF 1 or 2, but as it doesn't say, I assume it is CF 1(?). What a shame my camera uses xD cards...

Subject: 3mx OS language
My husband just recently purchased a second-hand 3mx in French language with French keyboard layout, to complement his English language one (which has a broken hinge - at 50 euros it was cheaper than a repair). He is rather disappointed that there seems to be no dictionary or thesaurus in the French version of the OS and wonders if there is a way to change it to English language (menus etc). Any ideas?

Subject: Spelling Dictionaries, Email programs for Symbian UIQ, Search for a mobile phone
Answer to: Victor Warner
Re.: Spelling Dictionaries - Yes, these are around, I have got personally the dictionaries for French, Dutch and German. However, I am not sure whether it is legal to pass these on to others or not, whether there is still a copyright on these or not. There are also programs available (SpellX, Switchdico) that will allow you to switch between the different ones installed on your Psion.
Answer to: Rolf Brunsting
Re.: Email programs for Symbian UIQ - You explained you have to disconnect, leave one local inbox, choose another local inbox and connect again. Profimail allows you to connect and in one connection download the mail (or headers) from ALL the existing mailboxes unless you defined otherwise. I thought that with the email program of the P910 when you connect to delete messages it will do only that and that you need to connect again to retrieve new headers, but I might well have been wrong and in that case stand corrected. With Profimail you don't have a unified inbox. You have one screen with all the mailboxes underneath each other and beneath it one "sent" and one "saved" box for all. Sure, this will not be to the liking of all, I just described the differences and gave my _personal_ opinion with it.
Answer to: Rolf Vonau
Re.: Search for a mobile phone - That depends on whether your relative wants only a phone or also a PDA and what price range you talk about. the P910 has got it all and more but is expensive. The Nokia's are cheaper and Siemens also make one. I think you will have to look at the functionality of the available phones on the internet

Subject: Proposed system,
Answer to: Antony Booth & others
Re.: Proposed system - Antony indeed contacted us some time ago with his ideas and the team of operators gave it due consideration. In the end we agreed that the proposed system had certain advantages but other disadvantages and that we prefered to stay with the current system. The digest program is still under development and a HTML version will soon be available at the option of the subscriber. With all due respect to Antony's system the digest is not a democracy. It was a private initiative run by private people who own the rights to the digest and who in the meantime prefer to keep things the way it is. If in future we will feel the need for fundamental changes as proposed, we will certainly make use of the readily available wisdom of the subscribers to find the best possible way to effect such changes. Undoubtedly this will go hand in hand with the eventual malfunctioning of our Psions, so let's hope that these changes are far far away .... <BG>. I only wonder why Antony decided to go public with his suggestions instead of contacting us again, but am sure it was with good intentions for the best of the digest only.

Subject: Report on Series 7 to netBook upgrade
A couple of weeks ago I finally took the plunge and sent my Series 7 to Germany to have SRS GmbH install the netBook personality module and put in more memory. I wanted wireless capabilities, a faster machine and fewer problems due to low memory errors.
While waiting for the Series 7, I also ordered the following wireless card from Expansys for about EUR 60:
Buffalo Air Station, "WLI-PCM-L11GP" 11Mbps PC Card.
The Series 7 returned last week, and it has exceeded all my expectations. I now have about 50MB of usable memory, the speed is noticeably faster (up from 133mHz to 190mHz), and, most importantly, the upgraded 7 is now capable of working wirelessly. I went to an Internet cafe with the 7, stuck in the Buffalo WLan card, and surfed for about an hour with minimal drain on the battery (from 12.6v down to 12v in one hour).
Other improvements:
- the screen calibration problem has disappeared (for the moment). I asked SRS about this, and they said they had unseated and cleaned the screen cable during the upgrade.
- Opera is now in ROM. While I'm not a big fan of Opera, it is able to access a number of sites that Web has difficulties with. While surfing wirelessly, I had both Web and Opera running with multiple windows open, and still had over 30MB of memory available.
Summary:
The Series 7 to netBook upgrade by SRS costs EUR 150 (add another EUR 25 for postage).
For this amount, you basically get a new Psion - one that is faster, has significantly more memory, and which is also wireless-capable. If you do have a Series 7, I can say that this upgrade is very worthwhile and really a great deal.
I've included contact information for SRS below.

Subject: 7book and WiFi
Hello all.
Having converted my S7 with the netbook personality module, thanks to the help from Digest members, the next step was the purchase of a Buffalo card (WLI-PCM-L11GP) which seems to have been a success for others. Whereas my Cisco Aironet 340 with a netbook worked without any problems I cannot get the Buffalo card to work in either the S7 book or the Netbook. I get as far as "logging in" but no progress from then onwards. Can anyone help with the settings to enter for the buffalo card? I am using a BT voyager 2000 wireless modem. I have not set any security settings for wifi, no signal penetrates the metre thick house walls and I have no near neighbours.

Steve Litchfield wrote:

And I've been using it to surf via Wi-Fi for the last week now - utterly great! Especially on someone else's Internet bill (but we won't go there!)>
Steve, I could never find a "Print To File" option on my old 9210 (maybe it was present in the "i" model?) so I installed an app called "Printers" which allowed me to do this. Would I be correct in saying that this option therefore is present as standard within the 9500's printing options - e.g. are the options "Print to PC", "Print via cable", "Print via IR", "Print via Bluetooth", "Print to file" and "Print via <designated printer> etc?
Regarding using Wi-Fi is it really as simple as just selecting "Easy Wi-Fi" and just letting the 9500 find my home Wi-Fi setup? Does it configure itself and automatically find the network or do I need to know any settings?
Kind regards

Subject: NC9500 review by All about Symbian
I am Digest reader since the beginning and I am happy to find some postings on the potential succesor of my 4 year old Serie 5mx, the new Nokia Communicator 9500.
I have gone through the review in All about Symbian and like to thank the authors for their critical review of the new machine.
I hope that Nokia will read the reviews and this comments because I guess the list for improvements for the next firmware is open.
I am strongly comparing the 9500 with my well working S5mx and I have found out some potential killer arguments not to migrate:
- The not sophisticating zoom levels in the calender/agenda application which provide very less informations in the day and week view as compared to the S5mx. Why not an easy to look at 2-column view of the day which makes the scrolling unnecessary.
- the agenda in ER5 allows you to edit the fonts and to choose several zoom level. Additional you can add word, sheet and sketches to your entry - simply to make your agenda look pretty and individual. All this functions are reduced to notes and only one fontsize in the 9500 calender. As Ewan says the power of the ER5 system is still aviailable - why isn't it implemented in the Series 80 system and make the 9500 a really outstanding machine
- The same applies to the massaging view. What a hell of job to scroll over up to 100 massages saved and being only able to look at the headers of 3 messages. That is really a mistake.
- Why is the Wlan-connection a sort of standard connection to the net? It is easy and fancy but not always accessable. My office and my home has no Wlan and also some hotels I used the past weeks. But all offer net access by an empty phone plug. I am really missing net access via a IR-modem and a fixed line. Maybe this is old fashioned but this offers a lot advantages (less expensive).
- Maybe also oldfashing is the use of the DTMF dialing function of the S5mx. With this function you can make a lot of calls with your fixed line phone without making typing errors. Extremly useful if you make international calls. Couldn't this be an outstanding feature for each sales guy making phonecall all the day from his desk? Why isn't it n the 9500?
- The problems related to the word and sheet reminds me on the current situation with my S5mx. Especially the conversion does not work 100% correct in both directions. Did Nokia really make any progress in further development?
Propabley only a mistake is the lost print preview function in sheet. I could not imagine any reason why this is not needed anymore. It is absolutely necessary if you like to know how sheet appears in case you are going to send it to your (business) partner. Or is this given up for the print preview function for the calculator which I never missed before.
- The 9500 offers only reduced possibilities to convert files to the Windows world. It is a shame that Nokia did not implement a wider range of filters. This is absolutely necessary when it is correct as Ewan wrote that the conversion is inside the machine and not included in the PC suite.
Compared to my S5mx this is a poor situation: With the PC suite, the 3rd party programms nConvert and PDF+Printer my S5mx is open to the entire internet world. A business machine like the 9500 must include a function to read and write PDF documents.
- The synchronisation with the S5mx is a poor things at all. I decided to use my S5mx as the main source for contact management and storage. I do not make reguar sync with Outlook because of lost or double contacts which appear always when I made a sync back to the S5mx. I appreaciate that the 9500 could be used also as a stand alone machine offering backup utilities on the MMC card. But why isn't that problem solved?
Maybe this is all too negative. To be honest I am fascinated by the 9500 and eager to get my own as soon my provider offers it. But I am dissapointed that Nokia/Symbian reduced a lot of features instead of making real enhancements. I agree with Ewan, the power is there but they did not make the best of it.
Best regards

Ahh, I thought I must be the only one with this problem - except for me it happens when I convert normal images (like GIFs). What I found to work best is:
When it offers two identical converters, I accept one, but then cancel the next dialog. I then try converting again, and usually this works fine - without nConvert having to bug-out the first time.
N.B. When nConvert crashes, it often leaves large files in the C:\System\Temp\ folder. It is worth deleting these.

Why are many of the words I (and others) wrote getting joined together? Has something or someone changed how the Digest is processed?
