Subject: does rally work
Has anyone managed to get the game of Rally to work on a 5mx ?
I've downloaded it from different sites but there always seems to be files missing.
This is rally by Johnnie Walker & Neuon (not vRally.)

I don't understand the difference between Location and Country in the Dialling Settings and changing the phone settings in Time. I can't get behind the logic of it all.
Current relevant Dialling settings for Home (Paris) are Location Area Code 0 and Dial Out Local code 0 (Long distance and Call Waiting are blank). It actually seems to make no difference whether I but 0 in Dialout Local code or not....<<<<
Re
Hi,
To dial *from* France:
in Time-World / Edit/Change Country details for France (Paris and others french cities should look as follows:
- National code 33
- National prefix NOTHING (VOID)
as described in my earlier post : a "0" is only *temporarily* necessary before you can Edit Dialling, and no more after you've done it;
then go back to Change Country details to *remove* the "0" you just typed there.
-Intern Prefix "00"
In I forgot ro write
+++ Now what I forgot (sorry for that) to note in my post is below:
To Dial from any other foreign (not France) country,
(besides setting the new "Home" in Time-World).
you'll have to put (back) the "0" As National prefix in Time/Edit/ Change country (France) details.
- A "final" pretest is, after setting up your Time/Tools/Home.... Base wherever you need (Sydney as an ex), typing Fn+Menu from any of your Data/Contact should produce the "right" dialling.
Et voilą!
NB - Control Pan. / Dialling is rather tricky:
Location/ Current location, refers to the type of dialling device OR any 'country' that you can "create" (Ctl+N) OR choose in the Country tab where you should choose and keep "France" as the "Country" as it is the place where you don't need to use any international prefix from your databases but where the National prefix 0 *is* needed.
The "right" numbers for EACH device *must* appears in the two lower slots.
This implies that you have edited (Ctr+E), as described in my earlier post (that is after editing Time-World country details... "0"), each of these "Locations" ie Home; Office; Mobile, pay card(s)... etc so as a "0" is "simply entered" in Area code.
Please tell back if it works for you this time

Re
Hi (again),
When in an Home Location you most usually do NOT need any Dial-out code, which is only needed when one is behind an exchange (central) phone system such as in most Offices or Hotels where (from such an 'extension' phone) you have to dial a prefix (most often 0 or 9) followed by a pause ("," or ",,") so as to get (dial) "out" of the exchange internal zone.
So you should try to delete any dailout number(s) in Home Location....
note that you'll have then to reset a "0" in Edit/area code (as described in my first post)

Rolf,
Hence my preference for the current flat packs that are mostly now
LiIon. I don't want the bother of having to wait until NiCads drain completely and then recharge. And the flat packs today allow me to carry smaller phones and PDA's in my pocket.

Subject: Fujitsu-Siemens LOOX 720
To Alan Morris:
As one of the possible alternatives for the Psion 5mx you decribed the Fujitsu-Siemens LOOX 720 in a few of the past digests and refered to some shortcomings especially in terms of synchronization and ability of the USB host connector to work with other USB devices. I also own a Loox 720 but I tend to disagree with you.
On the snchronization side there are programs like the freeware program MobSync (aside commercial ones like MightySnync) available which although synchronize your memory cards to the PC. You can find it at: http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=985
Re. the USB connector topic you can find a quite comprehensive list of devices that work with the Loox at:
http://www.firstloox.org/index.php?categoryid=17&p2_articleid=141
I`m stopping here because this is not the place to discuss the pros and cons of a Loox 720 but I think if people consider a PocketPC with a VGA screen as a replacement for their Psion this is currently one of the best PDAs they could buy. I personally miss a lot more the keyboard of the 5mx and his ability to run with AA cells. I certainly don't miss the screen quality of the 5mx but sometimes it's size...:-)

Subject: *** SPAM *** Communicator 9500
To Rolf Brunsting,
<< I therefore think it's best to take the bull by the horns and put the
Series 5mx in a drawer, lock the drawer and use the 9500 and the 9500 only.
I'm sure there are times that you curse the 9500's designers at times.
Still, you're going to use the 9500 as its the one you have with you. And
you can only adapt to the 9500 by using it.
Thanks very much for your helpful comments and advice re the Communicator
9500 and its functionality. The thought of moving to the 9500 is becoming
more attractive (though for obvious reasons I would prefer to curse the 9500
designers before rather than after purchasing it...). My only hesitation now
derives from my faint hope/expectation that a new version of this device,
improving on the few serious faults it still has, or another, similar device
should show up in the not-too-distant future. So I think I will have to chew
for a little while on your thoughts and excellent suggestions, and then take
the leap. Considering my great respect for, and appreciation of the 5mx,
though, I will do that vith a very heavy heart.

Re.: 9500 Qs email - www.lonelycatgames.com have an email program called Profimail with versions for Symbian 60, UIQ and Symbian 80 phones. It downloads email in different in boxes as per the email address it came from. Of course this works only if the different emails come from different pop addresses.

Subject: Recycle Bin *Macro*
Hi Folks,
The guy who wrote EZBank, Ken Emmanuel, also wrote a Recycle Bin macro (as well as a Recycle Bin program). Unlike the program the macro is free though it *needs* to be registered. But Ken Emmanuel's eAddresses both in the macro and on his website no longer exist. The macro is so well protected against RevTran that the resultant file crashes Program.
A macro for this purpose seems to me to be better than a program and I run it from the System on a Merlin toolbar. The bit that doesn't work is, of course, the "Empty Bin" function. There are several ways round this and I will write a macro that will do this for *me* (and maybe send it all to Martin Guthrie since Ken Emmanuel seems incommunicado). A generic registration probably won't work as it appears to be machine UID-based.
An appropriate macro should be very easy to write but I find this approach to free software rather galling. Protecting OPL programs/macros against RevTran is one thing but crippling free software unless it is registered and *then* abandoning it is a little unfair.
If Ken Emmanuel is reachable then this obviously doesn't apply to him - but there are several others!
Happy days,
Phil.
