For a while I was puzzled by this post, until looking at it closer I
suddenly realised who it was by and why:

In case some people are even slower on the uptake than me (statistically
there ought to be a few!), I'll point out that Alan Rabbitte must have
appended it to his post, presumably to parody (how he saw) Rolf B behaved
on the Digest.
While I can understand the point he is trying to make, I doubt that I am
the only subscriber who thinks this isn't appropriate behaviour for the
Digest. Perhaps some others can post whether they think this sort of post
is acceptable or not? I'm sure that Itamar would appreciate it, since he
doesn't like to act as a dictator on the Digest.
Personally I think that Alan should apologise, if only to avoid a flamewar
(not that I think Rolf will take the bait), particularly since the
Evolutions & Morality of Software errr arguments have only just abated...

I've always had the sound on during initial connection and switched off
when the connection has been made. This has the advantage of hearing when
there is a problem - generally you don't know what the problem is, but the
changed tones will indicate a problem.
For a few years I've used Orange ED50 and my Nokia 6210e for all my e-mail
work. Recently I had a problem with Orange and as many folk who have had
problems with Orange know, they employ some very low IQ staff.
I've used Freeserve since joining them when Computer Weekly changed their
ISP provider (the previous company went bust) and have been able to use my
newer Freeserve addresses as well as the older CW addresses.
Tiscali, recently reduced their broadband service to a price similar to my
Orange account, so I terminated my Orange a/c and joined Tiscali, which
included lower cost phone calls.
I tried to get MochaPPP to work on my XP laptop, but although it could see
my Psion connecting and disconnecting; I could not access any e-mail
address. So I continued to use dial-up on a Psion.
I went to Germany for almost a month and when I got back, it would not
connect. I used another Psion and that also would not connect. There was
a problem and I could hear the unusual tones on the speaker.
Eventually, I prefixed the dial-up number with 1280 to stop using the
Tiscali telephone wires and revert back to BT lines.
The tones changed back to normal and I have been able to access my e-mails.
The speaker enabled me to identify a problem, which I would not have known
about if it had been turned off.
Whatever Tiscali are doing is another matter to investigate and probably
needs reporting to Ofcom.

traveling to Sweden
Dear Christopher,

This is a UK plug which is also used in many British Commonwealth
countries, e.g. Malaysia and Singapore. (This is why the Malay-book has the
same plug). You can use it in Sweden with an adapter usually sold at the
airport (Landvetter in Gothenburg) and I guess also popular home
electronics shops like SIBA.

This sounds like the mainland European plug which is also used in Sweden.
This should work without adapter.

In Gothenburg, plenty, but I'm not so sure about the other places.

There's lots of info about this on the net, I suggest you do a search
through the digest archive.

You're probably referring to Gota-canal, which cuts right through the
Swedish midlands. It's a nice trip, you won't regret it. The most
impressive section is outside Trollhaettan (next to Vaenersborg) which has
several generations of waterlock-lifts. Though the eastern part of the
channel is cozier and narrower.
I will be in Lysekil - a west coast fishing village not far from
Vaenersborg - between 29 June and 15 July.

Anger Management
I have to say that the response to Alan in digest 756 was totally out of
order. We can guess who sent it - 'An Engineer - From a place where smug
giants don't live - in caves'. If this is the level the digest is stooping
to, then I have no option but to withdraw from the list. I have been on the
list almost since it started but the ramblings of Rolf are totally
unnecessary, why do we need this level of anger. Rolf has provided many
useful tips but is it worth it if he is going to lambaste anyone who
disagrees with him? We really need to get back to what the digest is all
about - Symbian and Psion. If Rolf wants to rant and rave why not set up
his own 'Rolf Digest' and anyone who wants to participate may join his
debates.

Subject: Looking for 5mx,7 or maybe even Revo/Mako
Hello,
I've subscribed again after maybe an year or so. My 5mx was working
flawlessly and I did not feel the need before. Well, until I drove with her
on the seat and took a left turn. She slid between the seat and the door.
Since then she does not speak to me and only restarts. I think a repair is
not economical.
I'm looking to buy another 5mx, 7 or maybe even Revo/Mako. I have a compact
flash card with data. I live in Vancouver, BC Canada. Please email me if
you have any for sale. I might take one with broken screen or cable as my
original one is ok.
Thank you very much,
Radovan

First off, many thanks for all the comments, all were very helpful.
In the end I got a Palm Lifedrive, with a wireless infrared keyboard.

If people are interested, will write up a mini-review after about a month
and let you know how I'm getting on, let me know.
Again, Many Thanks, Ian"
Dear Ian, yes, I would be be very interested to read about a Psioneer's
experience with the Lifedrive+KB, especially on its file & folder structure
and on how much it is "slugglish" in launching apps from its HD, with
respect to RAM-only based systems.
Also, the non (or little?) compatibility of Nokia Series 80 with Mac OS X
is one more reason for my not going for a Nokia 9300/9500 after my MC218(=
to the 5MX) went nuts. But what about UIQ 2.1 compatibility with OS X? Is
it not the SE P 910 supposed to be compatible with iCal etc. via iSync?
Thanks for comments and info - cheers to everybody
