I haven't tried iCal, but vCal worked for me. It yielded (after some hassle) a
vcalendar file, which I could then import on my PC into KOrganizer (I am
running Linux/KDE). It should be trivial to export it from there to ICal.

Hi all,

I'm not looking to start the debate again (not that it ever really got started), but in attempt to leave the debate with some sembalance of balance...

I was pleased to finally come across an article (from Scientific American) which actually addresses some of the reasonable arguments (as well as some of the sillier ones!) made against Evolution by Creationists - rather than the condescending outrage & unwillingness to even listen that unfortunately seems to typify most scientist's/etc responses to Creationism:

http://www.sciam.com/print_version.cfm?articleID=000D4FEC-7D5B-1D07-8E49809EC588EEDF

It doesn't address all of the big problems claimed with Evolution, other
times it doesn't go deep enough, and I'm not alway completely convinced by
their answers, but it's definitely a good start.

BTW, lest I leave anyone with the wrong impression, the discussions about
Evolution comprise only 1/7th of James P Hogan's book Kicking the Sacred
Cow.  It's just a pity that he decide to make it the 1st chapter, cos that's
perhaps all some people will read... :-/

With the truly splendid Java Psion Link, there is a converter menu.
It probably doesn't convert Agenda too well, but it's fab for word
and sheet.

Melvin,

>>I gave my journalist stepson an Mbook - which arrived from Sita Shop after a long delay.  But it didn't have an American charger, so it ran down after a few days of experimentation.  We recharged it using my charger when he visited a week or so ago.  But now when he opens it up, he gets the "My Schoolbook" screen - and that's ALL he can get.  No combination of keys or tapping on the screen has any effect -- except that Fn+Esc does turn it on and off.  I tried a soft reset, to no avail. Can someone on this list suggest what may be amiss and how to cure this ailment?<<

It sounds like the operating system was lost, presumably because both the main and backup batteries completely died. If the main batteries die, the backup battery will only last a matter of days (I believe), before it too goes flat; it's only intended to maintain the memory contents for a short period, ie. while changing from one battery pack to another.

To reinstall the OS, you or or your stepson will need to reload it using the CF card that should have come with the Mbook.

If this is not the problem then I will have to leave it to someone who knows better than me...

Cheers, Ian.

Sanjay,

I would guess that the answer would be no. If you have Virtual PC available on the Mac you may be able to run it through that.

I tried a number of utilities to try to convert my Agenda file to vCal files etc but with no great success. In the end I decided that Outlook Is Your Friend™ in this particular case. Do you have access to a PC with Outlook, where you can install PsiWin? Once the data is in Outlook it should be possible to export it in some format that ical can use (vCal would probably be the best choice).

You don't say whether the move is motivated by a move to Palm or Windows Mobile? If so that would be the _ideal_ way to move data over to the Mac. Once it is in Outlook you can sync to the new platform and use that to create the iCal data via a Hotsync. I don't know the Windows platform (it is supported via Mark/Space Missing Sync) but there is a conduit to sync Palm data to iCal.

Hope this helps.

Re.: MMC card - Sorry I did not catch that. I had the same problem with the card of my P910. It depends on both the Pc as well as the adaptor of the card (I had to put my Memory stick duo in an adaptor). At work nothing worked, at home it worked with one adaptor but not with the other, with the Belkin card reader but not with the other one I bought first. Sorry, can't give you any reason or theory why one yes and one not.

Re.: Mbook Impasse - The operating system of the mBoko (and netBook) is in RAM on the disk. When the battery runs down completely the hard disk gets erased, just like a hard reset on the 5MX. You wil need a CF card with the operating system on it to get it working again, the file is called OS.IMG. I have this file at all times on the CF card in the mBook. The size is 13.3 M and I can email it to you if you like..

Subject: Speedcameras - interesting news

It was interesting to read this morning in the Times newspaper in the UK that the police in the West Midlands decided to take down 10 speed cameras and take film out of others as it ws decided the cameras were more dangerous than the danger they were supposed to control. Some of them were installed before the latest laws came into effect saying they need to be visible from at least 60 meters away and the sudden breaking of drivers was more dangerous than the speeding itself. This confirms the safety aspect of knowing in advance where the cameras are by seeing them on your GPS maps.
