I have ploughed my way through some very boring and irrelevant postings to the Digest.
May I congratulate Jean Guilllonneau for his thoughtful contribution.  It may have been a bit of a wish list, but it was perfectly relevant, IMOH, to the purpose of this list - and your English, Jean, was greatly better than those who refuse to use a spellcehcker!

Many thanks.  Can you recommend an emulator?  And how do I contact the APB author?

Subject: [FOR SALE] 2 Revos and US mains adapter

Hello,
I've acquired two Psion Revos in a panic after my 5mx broke down. Now I have no use for them as I finally received long ago ordered Mako. They are just bare units with stylus. Batteries hold decent charge but not as new. Cases have scratches but none of them on the screens. Keyboards are like new. Hinges are working very well. One unit has the silver cover broken off slightly from the back side. It is tilted around 2 milimeters. It does not affect functionality at all. It looks like
this unit has slightly better battery.
I would like to get $35 Candadian for one unit plus postage. I have also one spare US mains adapter that would be $25 plus postage. Please email me for pictures.
Thank you,
Radovan

This is a test to see if I can send on GMail to the list (have both
addresses turned on - will shut down the earthlink one once I'm sure
GMail subscription is up and working.

Nic,  could you share your settings for your Sony UX.  I get an error
message: GMail 1 (my account name) Authorizing POP socket closed by
peer failed to authorize the POP server on account GMail 1.  Server
replied DURATION 1:48.

I used the settings for "other" off of the site.  I checked with the
support board and there were lots of messages asking for help - they
are receiving the same error message.  No one has stepped forward
saying that "it worked (for Snapper) and here's how I did it."

Forwarding is working a treat but I am forced to send by Earthlink or
wait til I get to the Windows machine.  POP is highly desirable.

Having trouble accessing the web access from the MBook or the C, but
will try to sort that out after getting POP up or giving up.

TIA,

jim

Subject: Gmail & 9500

Dear Psioneers & Nokians

After reading the posts on Gmail I opened an account (thanks Jack :-))) and tried accessing it on my 9500. To set it up I had to use my PC as I have been unable to connect to it using the web browser on the 9500, even the "nocheck" site.

I managed however to connect using the Message app and POP3 and SMTP. POP3 is fine when set to SSL. When sending, the message is sent, but afterwards I get the error message  "Problem Sending Message. System Disconnected". This is irrespective of whether I use SSL or TLS in the Outgoing Secure Connection section of the Advanced tab of email account settings.

But as long as it works I am happy and it is great to have more than 2gigs of space to store all kinds of data.

Regards from Cape Town

Max

Yes Susan APB5 should work on a Mako as it works on my Revo+.

I use my 7 or nB for most typing and IR copy to my 5mxPRO and Revo+ for carrying about.

Dear all,

I took the plunge and bought myself the virtual keyboard. i am ac,tually typing this email with the keyboard on my P910i. You need to get used to it as it works
somewhat different from an normal keyboard.. it fe'els funny typing on the desk with the keys in red showing. Y,ou also need to get used to typing "higher" as if you don't move your fingers high up you touch another key. i also cannot type the space with my thumb, but otherwise I  can type al.most with 10 fingers.
I will uase it in two weks time on holiday some more and then give you a more detailed report.

Be st regards,

Subject: Grand Rapid browser

I have had the GrandRapid browser installed on my netBook for some time but have not really given it much of a testing, till today that is.  I have been unable to read a particular web site with either Opera (3.62 and 5.14) or Web, then I remembered GrandRapid.  It worked on the site!  I will be trying it some more and seeing if I can read more sites and also see how it handles SSL and if its speed is good enough to make it a replacement for Opera.

We are always looking for improvements for our Psions and I am looking to see if this is one.  I am interested in any other experiences that other Digestees have had with the browser.

David

Subject: Ferret panics with User error 23

Hello List,
I just wanted to test the praised search tool Ferret - right after starting it, it says "User Error 23".
No matter if I install it on my 1 GB CF on D: or on C: . My machine is an Ericsson MC218. User error 23 means ETDes8Overflow (whatever ETDes8 means).
Supposing the 1GB CF as reason made me remove it and install and start Ferret from C:  - the error persists.

Any hints? How can I make Ferret work on my machine?

I would agree with this Itamar but there is another problem.  Modern day printers are designed to work with windows.  Some claim to follow the HP language for direct control of the printer by _any_ software, running on _any_ OS.

But from my experience of writing PDFs - that is Printer Driver Files for a DOS word processor, that printers have errors in their character width tables and other positioning commands.  So it's impossible to get a properly designed layout on paper.

Alan Morris.
