Subject: Psion Heaven
Here's a little respite from all that high-tech stuff that this list concerns itself with nowadays. This isn't about what gadgets to move to when we jump ship from Psion, and it isn't about high-flying connectivity issues – it's just about the simple pleasure of discovering what the basic EPOC machines are capable of.
Last week Bernard Chow advertised his MalayBook on this list for £100, and two nights later I was handing over the cash (plus £10 for a 256MB Viking CF card) in the KFC at Leicester Square. On the train home I was collecting my email on it.
And now I have all these reasons to be cheerful:
- The MB is beautiful: this screen, this keyboard, this speed! (My yardstick is my dear old 5mx.)
- This giant CF memory is just waiting to swallow all those TomeRaider reference books that I've briefly used and then put aside because I couldn't afford the space.
- I've discovered that the MB and 5mx and Nokia can talk to each other _without having to be back-to-back_ – they can be side-by-side, provided they have a suitable wall, or just a piece of paper or card, to bounce their beams off.
- Escaping from home to the public library to write is really practical now.
- Looking on eBay shows me what a great bargain this machine was.
Sorry to inflict this on all of you – most of you must be at least seven years ahead of me in adopting computer technology. But there must be at least a few of you out there who still take pleasure in the simple Psion things of life.
Thanks, Bernard.

Answer to: K700i connecting problems
The Digest V1 # 810
I use the K700i together with a REVO and A 5MX.
I use the options according to these page:
http://www.psionwelt.net/phorum31/read.php3?f=2&i=10422&t=10422
It is in German but with some fantasy you can see how you have to set
the options.
Another typ: Put the Phone VERY near to the Psion. Otherwise it does not
work !!!
I hope it helps.
Regards Francisco.

Dear Itamar,
In the Digest N° 815, you wrote:
Re.: PsiXpda - Has anyone any knowledge whether this project will ever be
finished and result in a new PDA ?
From what I understand (I asked POS Ltd) the PsiXpda is/will be essentially
a newly build, re-branded 5MX Pro.
The following is my own thinking.
These are good news, since POS is a very serious and competent firm. I can
hope they will put a better screen cable on it and so - no idea of the
price, though - one will have a newly manufactured Mx - in its Pro
configuration - rather than used or at best refurbished units.
Since I guess we all agree that the functionality of the 5Mx is still
unmatched, these are good news indeed.
But these are bad news because it looks like the same, end of the '90s soup:
a muggy monochrome screen, no wireless, no Usb but still the serial port
which all but disappeard in most modern PC and is nowhere to be seen on an
Apple product (synchro pains aside). And these goodies do turn out to be of
some use nowadays…
Kind regards,

Subject: PIBeam on S7
Hi,
Many years ago I tried to install PiBeam onto my S7. Something went wrong (it crashed ) and I have only ever been able to use the stand alone option. Recently I thought I would try again But there was no record of Pibeam in add/ remove and deleting the folder I can see in Apps did not remove it from the control panel. So I reinstalled it over the top and removed it using add /remove. Checked it was gone from the control panel and finally reinstalled it. From control panel I tried to install the driver - and bang it crashes to a light grey screen. Has anyone used PiBeam on an S7 with or without full memory?? My software version is 1.05(254) I also put it on my Mbook without problems and when I tap on the control panel I get a dialogue box with version info and more but the S7 only asks if I want to install it (the driver). Why would the same prog have different dailogue boxes on S7 and Mbook? Have I still some corrupted file on the S7? Or is it just not compatable.
Many Thanks Jon Welford

Subject: e mail and broadband., i-mate Jasjar,
Answer to: Armin Podtschaske & Tony
Re.: e mail and broadband. - You forgot the option to use SmtpAuth to connect via his existing broadband connection and still to be able to use the smtp servers of his other email accounts. By the way, for this reason I pay something each year to have my email address "itamar<at>post.com" from where I forward the messages to my Freeserve account. If tomorrow I want to change email address or provider, I only have to change the forwarding to the new address and don't have to notify anyone (www.mail.com).
PS: I don't think I ever said that only yr scheme no 1 exists, it is the scheme I use.
Answer to: Brendan
Re.: i-mate Jasjar - Thanks for the link. However, the machine is not really a replacement due to the bad keyboard, you cannot touch type on it so it says in the report. Second disadvantage is the high purchase price of almost 700 pounds, I can get a full fledged laptop for that amount. And thirdyl, of course the Windows mobile OS ...... :-)
