Hi Folks,
John (Morris), it does sound as though PhoneMan Pro automatically loads a file hidden somewhere. Here’s what I’d do.
Backup. Then try reloading the program from the SIS file and then delete it (from the System screen using ‘Menu - Control panel - Add/remove’ - it is on my 5mx).
If you’ve already tried that, copy what details you need from the Mako and do a very hard reset. Reload PhoneMan Pro *first* and set it up as you want it. Re-install your third-party applications from SIS files, backup as before (which should overwrite the ‘rogue’ file) and reload whatever data you need, preferably not a restore.
It’s a winter spring-clean too!
Happy days,
Phil.

1- Press Strg-Q
That takes you to the menu Extras/System(something) - dialog-box (sorry, I have the German ui, but you'll manage)
2- tick "Show Hidden Docs" and "Show System Folder" and press ok
3- I believe it would be enough to delete only
Phoneman.ini
3bis- If that does not work, delete the whole folder
system/apps/phoneman
I don't know what else you may lose by deleting it besides registration (which is now free anyway), so you might want to make a copy of it on CF before trashing it.
4- Press strg-Q again and untick the boxes, this will prevent you from accidentally tampering with the System-folder after this.
Hope this helps,
best,
vlad

Subject: 1001 "finder.dat" files on my Psion!
Hi,
On my Psion there are a few hundred invisible "finder.dat" files, 2-4 kb each. I believe they came from the Mac, but I'm by no means sure.
I don't know why they'd be on C, I'd understand their presence on D as the CF occasionally gets connected to my iBook for data transfer and also gets "infected" w. the DB-Apple data, which one should NOT delete (CF gets badly corrupt).
I'd like to delete them, should I?
Thanks for your thoughts,
best,
vlad

Ah, it must have been you who I got this idea from - thanks! I have had a similar set-up for some time:
Two pieces of string are tied into the air ventillation holes at the front
of the windscreen. Each string ends in a small picture hanger, which provides a hook that I can attach to the metal ring at both corners of a Proporta semi-rigid case.
It took a lot of adjusting the length & positioning of the strings, but I can now sit my Netbook on the dashboard, without fear of it sliding away.
When not in use, all you can see are two bits of string, which has the significant advantage that it doesn't look like a GPS dash-mount, and therefore won't entice someone to break into my car on the chance that I've stored it in the glove box (something which apparently happens quite often, sadly). (And no, I wouldn't store my Netbook there, even if it would fit!)

Have you tried doing Create new>File on the system screen and creating a new Phoneman File?
If not drop me a mail off list and I will send you a blank Phoneman file.

Subject: Wetsuit 3.0 on eBay!
Hey guys,
I just purchased a Wetsuit 3.0 on eBay for $12! I got it for my
Powerbook Duo 280, but the add description says it's supposed to fit
the Psions, so i'm figuring the 'Netbook? Well, just a heads up.
Here's a link to the auction:

Have a look at the windows touch-screen mounted on the dash in the 4th picture on:-

I've got the motor with a similar body, but not the PC - yet.

Answer to: John Morris
Re.: PhoneMan Pro locked - Did you delete also the Phoneman.ini file that is usually situated in the Documents folder ? Did you further check that indeed all the files in the \App\Phoneman folder were deleted including the folder itself ? When you delete a program there can be other files with data that are not deleted by deletion of the program.
Answer to: Charles Davies
Re.: 5mx reloading Contact+ - The contacts is only a file called contacts.cdb and sits in C:\System\Data. You don't need to copy the whole folder over, just this one file.

John,
IIRC, PhoneMan Pro is now freeware, the author having released their duties to it about 18 months ago. You should be able to find it on Tucows.com or another Psion FTP site.
So simply uninstall your previous version, save the old files to another folder, install the new copy of the software. I doubt you'll be able to get all your old info back but you can try swapping old and new versions of the files etc..
HTH
regards
Peter

Subject: Not my message
Hi,
About a week or two ago I noticed one day that a message appeared in the Digest that I had not written. I have no idea how it got posted. At the time I could not write to the Digest. In fact I seem to recall that someone posted a 'reply' to my phantom message. So I think an apology is in order, to all Digester and to whoever replied, for what may well have resulted from a careless punching of the wrong key on my 5mx.

Subject: Macro GPScalcNew
As said I just tnow found this macro for the first time, and indeed it did not work on my mBook. A quick look showed that the problem was the differences between the German and English language Psions where some of the commands and text are different. I have updated the macro and it now works on my mBook. I will pass it on to Martin as soon as I will have Broaband at home again so he can include it in his extensive list of macros.

Subject: Advice on where to sell Psion hardware
I have made the leap to the Palm for better or worse and plan on keeping a 5MX. Any suggestions on the best place to sell two Series 5s', a Mako Plus and a Netbook? Ebay or any Psion specific marketplace.
Thanks.

Dear Vlad,
<< Could you elaborate a bit? I'm in the process of switching
definitively to X and one of the problems is finally being able to
keep my adresses synched >>
It's quite simple. MacOS X 10.4 is supplied with a diary and to-do
list (iCal), a contacts list (Address Book) plus a synchroniser
(iSync). It's the latter which allows you to synchronise iCal and
Address Book with a range of PDAs and mobile phones. Use the below
URL and you get an overview of all devices supported by iCal.
