Dear Subscribers,

Lately the mailbox of the digest has been attacked by SPAM senders. Just now I downloaded the messages and 9 out of 20 are SPAM. We are planning to change the email address of the Digest to a slightly different one in order to make a fresh start again. We will inform you in due course with further details on the Digest.

With best regards

Subject: Phoneman Pro & Nokia9500

Hi there,
I want to read the CF card of my Nokia 9500 by Phoneman Pro at the S7 via InfraRed.
Does anyone know, whether there is any possibility.
My trials were unsuccessful. Why the connection between S7 and Siemens S25 works,  but between Nokia9500 not?

Any hints are appreciated.

Definitely. A Psion has no "Finder". Those are the settings where the finder stores information about how to display a folder (as symbols or list, window size on screen etc.). Really annoying on "external" drives.

I know about a tool that prevents Mac OS X from storing those informations on non local drives (and CF Cards if wanted) but for
Classic I don't know yet. You can search http://versiontracker.com for 'finder.dat' (Mac OS 8/9). ooops, couldn't find useful tools. Maybe 'network' as search term...

What kind of iBook do you have (which generation) and which OS version?
I guess you have no serial port on your iBook (never had one) and you read / write on the CF with a card reader?

I won't advise you to do so, I always try to connect only to the CF card and just drop items in closed folders (so I don't have to open them in
the Finder and then create a finder.dat)

Thanks for the hint, but no Psion in the Apple or the PalmOne's list... How do you connect?

best,

Vlad,

Yes they are from the Mac. Finder (the Mac desktop app, for those who don't know) needs a way to store some information about the folders your open on your desktop, like size, view, ordering, labels, etc. This info goes to finder.dat in every subdirectory (folder).

>I don't know why they'd be on C,

Do you use connectivity software that maps the Psion drive(s) to your desktop in a similar way as PsiWin does for Windows? If you once open a folder on your Psion from the Mac, finder.dat will be automatically created. You can safely delete the files from your Psion.

I got one with my second-hand netBook.  It was unused and did fit the Psion, but I've never used it, as my style of carrying does not require the Wetsuit.

Where can this be found?

Cellsoft.com came out with a new version of a small screensaver program Bigben. It gives you several options to use either a digital clock or an analog clock as a screensaver, with the iamge of Big Ben as a possible option. The program is quite small but works well and is a qute program. There is however one big problem with it, it absolute EATS battery power. I installed it and checked the power consumption. I made sure the minimum of programs were open and closed all the usual power consuming programs (email, camera, etc). Big Ben took a huge 12% per hour !  Unless you can recharge your phone every few hours this is an absolute killer of an otherwise verny nice little program. I have asked Cellsoft to comment. By the way,I remember that I had exactly the same problem with FrontView, another program from Cellsoft.
