about this ROAD project. Looking at the site I had the impression it's an elaborate hoax or at least a marketing pre-project concept test. In any case it's too good to be true. If you find out more, please do mail in.

Hello Garrett,

Yes, that was my thoughts exactly. I could see it coming, but restrained myself in the hope that Rolf would take a hint (from one of the Digest's owners no less). Unfortunately it seems not, so I think that we have to be a little less subtle :-(

Ummm, because he doesn't (seem) to want to discuss it in private. God knows why, since all but 3 of the Digest's members are not interested in this off-topic ummm topic.

I suggest sticking your fingers in your ears, and going "la la la, I can't hear you, la la la". At least that used to work for me when I was about 7 years old! (And still occasionally works now;-)

Subject: RE: Be careful on eBay - Send Information to Metropolitan Police
Sorry to hear that you have apparently lost your money, Bob. I had a
similar experience when bidding for a Nokia 9500 on eBay in March 2005 - had
several offers, some purporting to have a deal for TNT to accept the
shipment then release it once the money had been sent quoting the Western
Union MTCN - Money Transfer Control Number, with some fairly convincing TNT
HTML documentation.
In short, I checked with TNT who had no such scheme and with Western Union
who emphasised that once the money was sent it was irretrievable, unlike
PayPal/Credit Cards, etc. To see what might happen, I sent a fictitious
Western Union MTCN (WU advised this was a random set of 10 numbers) - in
return I received equally fictitious messages from<address truncated>
giving the shippers name and address but stating they could not release the
phone until the money had been received from Western Union, then a message
from the shipper asking why I had withdrawn the payment. I restated my
condition that I would not pay by WU until I had received and checked the
phone, thereafter I heard no more.
On the 28th April 2005 I had a letter from Detective Sergeant Christine
Smith of the Metropolitan Police Service, Specialist Crime OCU (SCD6),
stating that they were assisting the Romanian police in a series of eBay /
internet frauds and had information that I might have been a victim - their
reference was Operation Yamaguchi.
I spoke to another officer John Rushmore in May on 020 7230 1255 and
explained I had received several bogus offers on eBay from Romania/Italy but
had not lost any money. Later I heard on the BBC that successful
prosecutions had been made.
So I suggest you pass the details to the Met as below, and hopefully this
might help them catch your fraudster:
Detective Sergeant Christine Smith, Metropolitan Police Service, Specialist
Crime OCU (SCD6), Economic Crime Focus Desk, Wellington House, 67-73
Buckingham Gate, London SW1E 6BE. Phone 020 7230 1255/1120.
The man at Western Union in Ireland said the names / addresses given in such
frauds were usually false and/or they moved on pretty quickly, so
congratulations to the Met (Mr Plod not!) for seemingly tracking them down /
success in this case.

PS I later bid successfully for a Nokia 9500 on eBay which arrived safely
from San Diego, USA - and sold it some months later!

Subject: Converting Data
To: Maurice Schofield ....unable to convert Data files....
RE
Hi,
I'ld:
- use DataContact (Thanks for ever Nicolas) for Data file(s) containing "contacts" ads.
- use the Data Menu / File /More/Export/ Options Label separator = TABULATED
then import the resulting data.tsv in a Sheet or Excell file.
- to convert Contacts to Data one can use contactData.opo from (was): Cornelius.Mawby AT TheOffice.Net.
- to export Contacts use vCard.
HTH
PS I didn't receive any suggestion about parameters to connect a WindowsMobile phone as a Psion "modem".

Subject: Intelligent (!) Design
Hi Folks,
Malcolm (Garrett), though I rather agree with you the subject *started* as a somewhat frivolous comment on changing timepieces, Psion or otherwise, to accommodate leap seconds (and leap years, etc,). I referred to the Scopes monkeyı trial (about evolution) as an example of legal lunacy comparable to the lunacy of doing away with such leap periods.
From that frivolous comment some people, principally Rolf Brunsting (sorry Rolf!), have gone further in a serious vein.
The only important thing in this, as far as Iım concerned, is that evolution is not *proven* science yet. Certainly I believe in it (as most do). But Rolfıs beyond reasonable doubtı is a legalism. Science requires rather more rigorous proof which is then subject to peer reviewı.
Occamıs razor doesnıt even count!
Terry Pratchett, in ³Strata², showed that intelligent designı, while ridiculous, is a possible explanation of archaeology and geology.
Itıs also a very funny book.
Take care,
Phil.

Subject: Converting Moved Data Files, Moving contacts from P910i,
Answer to: Maurice Schofield
Re.: Converting Moved Data Files - I think the best way is under Menu -> More to export the data as a text file and call it XX.csv. This format you can enter into most other programs.
To All:
Re. Moving contacts from P910i - When I started using this phone I moved all my contact details to this phone and never synchronised it with any other computer. This means that my client base of my photography business is all on the P910i. My question : Is it possible to export these data to another format or another computer in order to print labels from these contact to send out mail to all my clients ? The contacts file has got all my contacts in it, private, dayjob clients and photo clients, internally separated in folders within the database.
Best regards,

Subject: Re: Pdf viewer for Series 7
Hello,
I've been looking for a Pdf viewer for my Psion Series 7. I found Pdf+, but it seems difficult to buy to buy the registered version and the free version doesn't seem to read the latest version Pdfs. Does anyone know of an alternative? The paid for version appears on Handago, but only for the later versions of Symbian for series 60 & 80 series machines
