I don't think the latest version does anything more or less than the earlier one - unless there are internal improvements not visible on the interface. However, it is now free - no registration is payable. So if you've already got a registered version there would seem little point in upgrading.

Re.: SE W950 - Thanks for the reply. You certainly do a lot more with your iPod than most people, I don't even have one and am ignorent about these little machines. For me, music is the radio, internet or CD's. Oldfashioned, I know !         As to the remarks of Alan R., I would not call the thumbboard like keys of the P990 a "keyboard". Otherwise, the assessment is good, thanks for putting it all so neatly in a list. i totally agree with you that it will be mostly a financial decision whether to upgrade or not. A further question is of course that if my current P910i works well and does all I need, why should I upgrade ?

Best regards,

I am trying to get some US Code sections formatted into tomeraider 2 or k2 or something similar so I don't have to haul around so much paper. tomeraider has gone to its version 3, but the TR2 for windows version no longer seems available. Anyone know of any available tools for converting text or html into some kind of ebook format?

Subject: netbook reboots at cable connection

I just recently bought a 2nd hand netbook.
For some reason if I put cable connection on it reboots and puts the setting back to 'off'.  This occurs even if I disconnect the serial cable.
Is there another setting I need to change ?

Larry, I am just 'up the road' from you, in Oxford, working in Christchurch.  Your problem sounds quite 'odd' (i.e. I haven't heard of this happening before).  I take it this happens whether you have the serial cable connected or not, so can you set the IR to 'on' ok, or does that reset too?

Second, do you have any third party software loaded that does things like give quick access to toggle to link?  If so, then I would uninstall and try again.

Next step would seem to be a hard reset of the system.  Back up your data, make sure that you have the OS image available on a CF card, then remove the backup battery followed by the main battery.  Wait 30 seconds and then, with the CF card with the OS image inserted in the netbook, replace the main battery followed by the backup battery.  Restart the system and then test the link again.

If you still have the problem, then it is beginning to sound like a hardware issue and that won't be so easy to deal with.  If the problem has gone away start reinstalling your software checking after each install that the link is still working.

Hope that helps

David

Subject: ExtraBars - now free

Dear All,

I don't usually highlight updates / new software on my website but in this case I might make an exception.  After some discussion with Jason Kneen, I am very pleased to advise that he has agreed to the release of a generic reg. code for ExtraBars - effectively making it freeware.

ExtraBars is arguably one of the premier application launchers on the EPOC platform and ranks alongside Macro5 (IMHO) - certainly worth checking out if you've not used it before.

Details and download on my website.

Cheers,
Martin
