I use both TomeRaider and MobiReader for accessing my reference documents on both my Psion 5mx and Nokia 9500.

TomeRaider is better on the 5mx, but MobiReader is much better on the 9500 as the TomeRaider version on the 9500 does not support full screen or hyperlinks, which is a real backward step for me when going to the 9500.  It does not seem likely that TomeRaider will be upgraded for the 9500.

TomeRaider 3 for Windows allows you to import and export tr2 files and so you can use it to make tr2 files. TomeRaider 3 for Windows allows you to make a tr file (for exporting to the PDA) from a specially formatted text file, whilst the MobiPocket Web Companion allows you to publish a html file or a text file as Mobipocket prc file for exporting to the PDA.

I use TreePad on my PC for collecting information.  I then use NoteTab (an excellent text editor) to process the TreePad files before conversion.
There is also TomeRaidit which can convert folders of text or html files to a .tr file, but I don't use this very much.

I have a number of macros for use with NoteTab for processing the text which I can email you if you want.

Regards,
Martin

Hello All,

I followed the link to Pulster.de as I too need a replacement stylus or two for both my 5mx and NBook.

Firstly, my German is scheister, so I couldn't locate the proper web page. if anyone can send me a full link I'd be grateful.

Secondly, what is this? It looks like a cross between the 5mx and a Nokia Communicator....

http://www.pulster.de/d__pupsi__Psion__Pupsi_Edition_2010_207.htm

Is it symbol of what's regarded as the German sense of humour??

Thank you.

Peter

Subject: Aironet 340 causes MalayBook crash

Hi, everyone.

I'm trying for the first time to use the Cisco Aironet 340 LAN adaptor card that I bought second-hand with my MalayBook some months ago. I have no manual or anything else for the card. When I put it into the MB, the card's Activity light comes on for a while (or if it doesn't, it does so when I open the Link To Desktop window on the MB). Then it goes off. The Status light doesn't come on at all.

When I go into Opera or Email and try to connect to the Net, the MB soft-resets immediately.

No need to describe my router setup – this happens whether
it's turned on or not. Incidentally, the socket on the MB seems to be OK – my Gold Card works in it.

The settings in Control Panel / Ethernet, relevant and irrelevant alike, are:

– Show connection dialog [Ticked]  [Why isn't that'dialogue''?!]
– If idle, stay connected for 59 min
– On exit, stay connected for 59 min

Name: Cisco RLAN
Configuration method: DHCP
Hostname: SchoolBook [or blank]
Device: Cisco Aironet 3500 / 4800 / 340
Device options: SSID: Home [or blank]
Advanced: IEEE 802.3 encapsulation: [Blank]
ARP cache timeout: 1800 sec

How do I set about investigating this?

TIA,

Chris

Subject: New idea, Route 66 continued,

Re. New idea - As traffic is a little slow off late, I thought it might be the time to start a new idea. Take a specific application you use most, use a lot, like to use, find usefull, etc, and give the Digest a full description what you do with it, how you use it, what additions you created to enhance it like macros, shortcuts, etc., like I have done recently with Route 66. I am quite sure we can all learn a lot from each other. Who is first ?

Re. Route 66 continued - So I drove up and doen to Manchester with Route 66 on. The first and most annoying thing was that 3 or 4 times suddenly, whlle driving on the motorway, the program said "Your destination cannot be reached directly" and the route disappeared from the screen. After putting in the destination again it recalculated the route and happily conitnued to work. Once it happened when I twice wnet around a round-about and I must have driven the software to despair ... <G>. On the way back the traffic was terrible with several accidents and severe delays. The program notified me twice that my route was recalculated but it did not take me off hte motorway where it ws totally blocked. I had to choose this myself. Luckily I did have my mBook with Routeplanner as well to check the map and surrounding roads to plan my route. The voice instructions are very good and easy to follow, a definite plus.

In conclusion, I think I can recommend this program with the note that as with all compute rprograms it will do only what you tell it to do. If you don't set the speeds on each type of road correctly, the resulting route will be incorrect. The screen is easy to read and follow, the information is sufficient and altogether unbelievable it all fits in just your phone .... !

Subject: Wired LAN

I have been experimenting with Wired LAN on my netBook and have not had any success yet.  It sometimes locks the netBook requiring a soft reset.  I am using a 10/100 card to a 10/100 Netgear wireless ADSL router with 4 LAN ports.  I have tried using both DHCP and manual settings, each with the same result - I don't even get a 'ping' response (using FIFinger) from the router, let alone an external address.  I don't seem to be able to get the router to limit the port speed to 10mbs which seemed to be one solution.

Has anybody had any success in this area?  If so, what card are you using and what are the settings?  Also, were there any spacifics about the router used?  Any information would be usefull, I especially want to stop the netBook locking when I try!

Regards
David

Subject: Lotus Notes

Back in the days of Nots 4.5 I used to sync e-mail, however, my company changed as did the e-mail system.  Now it is changing again and the e-mail system is Notes 6.5.  I know that there was an update to handle Notes 5 sync (still available on the Psion Texlogic site).  Has any body tried to set up sync with later then version 5 of Notes?  Is is possible?  Just want to know if I would be wasting my time in trying.  I have a proper copy of InSyncPro!

Thanks for any help.

Subject: Contacts to Epoc Data

I was hoping someone can help me. I have, in the past, been able to convert my contacts to a data file, using c2f.

I cannot for the life of me remember how I did it.

I can make a ASCII text file with c2f but am unable to import it to a data file.

Can someone help with detailed instructions of how they have successfully imported all their contacts into an Epoc Data file.

Tim

Subject: converting txt->ebooks/Internet connection problem

Hi Chris,

To create ebooks from text files, I recommend Martin Guthrie's "makeBook" available at http://www.pscience5.net/. The program is simple to use and works very well.

'Ebook' by Simon Quinn is an excellent ebook reader for ER 5 machines.

INTERNET CONNECTION PROBLEM
I frequently connect to the Internet using a MC218 and the Psion IR modem. When I'm at home, this combo works with 100% reliability. However, when I am traveling, this combo works for about three days, and then after that, I increasingly get a "general (unspecified) connection error" when I try to log in, and I am unable to connect to the Internet. I tested the modem with another PDA, and was able to connect to the Internet without difficulty - thus the problem is most likely with the MC218. The weird thing is, once I get home, I am able to log in to the Internet again without any difficulties.

I have the Mobile Connectivity Update and the TCPIP_UPDATE_NON_ETHERNET fixes installed, and have also tried using 'TheDialer' to bypass Mail and Web during the login process. Running Sink2 doesn't seem to fix the problem either.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing the MC218 to botch up the Internet  log-in process after 3 days at a new location? This is the second trip where this has occurred, and I'd like to have the MC218 connect more reliably to the Internet when I am on the road.

Thanks,

Peter
