Thanks a lot for all the tips. I feel honoured to have all the postings in that issue focused on my little problems.

For Ian Chapple, Itamar

"it's not a question of how old the machine itself is. Just download and install the latest version of the OS"

"it depends on which version of Psiwin you use."

OK, but I didn't know there were different generations. Of course I convert. No problems on that account with MC218, and no problem at all since I returned the netBook. Thanks for the tip about RTF.

For Alan Arabitte, Alan Morris

"Be brave!...remove all the keys, and then the rubber sheet....I'm not sure what's wrong, but it should become obvious when the rubber sheet is removed."

"...possibly a shorting of two wires..."

Thanks for the advice. I did as you said. First the keys. Then the rubber sheets. Lots of dust on it. Under it was a blue film with circuits printed on it. I couldn't see any obvious damage. There were some dots here and there, perhaps burns (?), but not (only) near the keys I had problems with. And under the film more dust. And a solid plastic surface that I did not see any way of opening. No wires to be seen. I cleaned everything gently. No change.

#So, thiss iss the waay it lookss when I try to type ssomethingg. Not quite impossssible to usse ffor sshort piecess, but raather tiringg to ffindd aandd replaace aall the ddouble letterss. Iff I were clever enouggh to maake aa little maacro or ssomethingg......

"Andd one more thingg. CTRL aalwaayss triggggerss Recordder.

For Mike Dyers

"...if you have any questions"

Thanks a lot. Yes, maybe. I wish there were a forum like the Digest for the L.libretto.In fact I subscribed to one last summer (something with the adorable Libreto), but haven't heard a sound. Do you have any info?.

And one more thing, so stupid that I hardly dare mention it. I took over the Libretto 100 from a deceased relative. It was absolutely full, and extremely slow. So I decided to wipe out everything and have fresh start. So I reformatted the hard disk with Win98. Shouldn't have done that. because then I just got the standard videocard driver. In other words 640x480, like you have on your 70. Not 800x480 as it should be. I suppose I can live with that. Worse, I only got 16 standard colours in stead of 16 million.

So the question is, any idea where one could find a video drive for this very special screen?

All the best to all of you

A few questions:

1. Have you installed ANY other software lately?
In particular, anything that uses serial ports?

2. Does your machine have a normal serial port, or an USB-to-serial adapter?

3. If you start up a Terminal emulator, can you find the COM port the Revo is connected to?
3a. And if so, what happens if you set it to the same speed as the comms link on the Revo, and switch on the link? (These tests must be done with PsiWin closed down)

4. I assume that you haven't forgotten to switch the link on in your Revo...

:-)

Thanks!

Date. Is there any quick way of putting time/date or location into the
spreadsheet and the wp ?
Not yet. Macro5 support is planned for the next version, but this is
still quite challenging to incorporate. In the mean time I'm working on
a small application (beta expected to be released next week) that will
allow you to paste any text (including current date/time, special
characters like Ctrl-E, CBA1..4 etc) to the active application. Each
text fragment can be pasted automatically by pressing a hotkey. There
will also be a hotkey for bringing up the dialog with all predefined
texts to select one and paste it in the active application with the
Enter key. If you send me your email address (arjen at allaboutsymbian
dot com) I'll send you the beta when it's ready.

Best regards

Jim,

After my Psion went "kaput" on me a couple of years ago, I have tried the Palm and also junked it after it failed on me.

I am now using an iPaq, the basic rz1710 - no camera or phone or any other fancy stuff.  It is a fairly reliable unit but you need to be careful about installing 3rd party software - they can be the cause
of hanging.  Other than that, it synchs very well with Outlook for both calendar and contacts.

I do miss the nice keyboards of the Psion, the very fast synchs with the PC and the excellent file management.

Hi there,
Right click on the Psiwin "line" on the taskbar, left click on Properties
and left click on Connections; if there are 2 COM ports selected, then that
might be your problem, so connect your Psion, select the correct port and
try to connect.  You might have to check the correct port is selected each
time you connect, as I do.
Hope that works.
All the best,
      Kate!!

Answer to: Jim Watson-Gove

Re.: Nokia or ? - If your 5MX and mBook(s) are functioning properly I would personally go for a much smaller phone like the SE or a Nokia S60 phone. It will give you mobillity and enough functionallity for th eoccasional usage beyond phone/database. The communicators are very functional but rather big to take with you while with the smaller sizes phones like the UIQ you really need an external keyboard to make it function properly.

Answer to: Thomas Antony

Re.: Psion Revo - PC link - Psiwin works on my PC's with XP and Xp Pro without any problems so it should work. I can think of severla things you should check :

- Is the correct port set in the Psiwin settings
- Is the speed on the PC and Revo the same
- Is the cable connected into the right COM port (physically)
- Did you install any new software that takes hold of the same serial port disallowing Psiwin to connect

Let us know if any of these matters was the cause of your problem.
