In UK there used to be an advert (for BT) which said 'It's good to talk' .. As a long time lurker on the Digest I wish to say that I think it is good that we are able to discuss and share how members of the Digest are doing, particularly if they may need assistance, even when that assistance is not directly EPOC related, so I for one have been pleased to hear how Owen is doing.  Thank you.

On a more familiar topic - I am considering what Nokia phone to buy as a replacement for a Nokia 6210.  I would appreciate any recommendations for a Nokia mobile that has a colur screen, good keyboard and is small to medium sized. It does NOT need any PIM functions and does not need any multimedia functions - ie I want simple quick and basic functions.

TIA

Vlad,

actually there is some association between the Psion and DNA (Douglas
Adams): he was known as a Mac user and addict but also tried a Psion
Series 3 (or 3a, I don't remember) since PowerBooks at that time didn't
work long enough without recharging for his needs. He once even wrote a
review about that Psion model (in the bath tub) which is reprinted in
"The Salmon of Doubt".

There are two other very important books by Douglas Adams that might be
of interest for you, the Dirk Gently series:

- Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (1987)
Dirk's real first name is Vlad... see also
http://www.floor42.com/Dirk_Gently/

- The Long, Dark Tea-Time of the Soul (1988)
I'm a happy owner of the 1st print (hard cover) and also have the
German paperback "Der lange dunkle Fünfuhrtee der Seele".
Maybe some of you can find here some of the "ideas" Rowlings used later
for her Harry Potter saga (exchange wizards with gods, Streetlights
flashing out, usage of a certain train station in London to get to a
secret place, why "normal" people don't notice the "special people that
are all around)

Hi,

has the digest really shed 200 subscribers in the last few months, I'm sure we used to number 900 odd rather than the 700 odd now.

They can't all have bought Treos  ;o)

Regards,
Mike Dyer.

Phil,

For me, your points are well taken.

Concern for users of our devices, other than concern for the devices themselves, makes us all human.  We cannot detach the man from the machine if we are to continue on the road to progress.
