Hi Phil!

I searched a bit for (Ing.) Christian Prinzinger and found two eMail addresses:

At herold.at you can even find a postal address and mobile number, but i don't want to post this data here...

Please try to reach him and maybe he gives you and us a general key to post it on PsionWelt.net or on Pscience5.net!

Ciao

Am I alone in being irritated by the lack of distance information in
Clock ? In ER5, you could find out the distance between two cities.
This option has disappeared.

Another niggle is redundant address in the address book. I find that
I get a repeated entry; when I try to delete it, the program hangs.

Is there a way of deleting the address book database file ?

Hi Phil,

Thanks for your feedback on how you use your Psions.

I'm intrigued by your comments about the older Series 3 models. I'm a big
7Book/Revo/5mx fan, but have never used a Series 3 model, although I've
heard nothing but raves about their reliability and usability. For me the
Revo would be the perfect machine if it only had user-replaceable
batteries and a way to quickly back up and restore data.

In your opinion, which is the best Series 3 model that was made? From what
I have read, the differences deal mainly with processor speed, screen
clarity and backlighting - is that right? Are there other differences as
well, e.g., with regard to reliability or ease of using the keyboard? And
is there a simple way to transfer data directly between a Series 3 and a
5mx, such as an infrared port?

Best regards,

Peter

Helo,

Nice stories, those Psagas!
I don't think I would travel so much when my Psion screenribbon breaks and the files are not readable on the 5mx anymore. There some other sollutions: 1. Always have the serial conncetion cable with you. Then, you can install PsiWin from the site
http://www.garethjmsaunders.co.uk/psion/psiwin233_16.html and connect the 5mx. All file are accessible. But you cannot convert a contacts-file, and most recent computers don't have a serial connection anymore?
2. a) Download de JavaSDK from
http://www.garethjmsaunders.co.uk/psion/emulator32.html. Dont try the other SDKs, this only works with the java version! Install it on your PC.
b) Search in the map C:\epoc32\tools for a bat file, for example e32-vga.bat. Copy that to C:\epoc32 (or elsewhere); open it in notepad, edit "C:" into
"D:" and save the file as D.bat. Edit "D:" into "E:" and name the file E.batetc. c) Now, copy both folders epoc32 and Epoc32ex to the root of the CF you use
in the 5mx, using a card reader or so.
d) After your psion is damaged, you can access your files with any PC: take
a cardreade, insert the CF from your psion, look in explorer what name the
drive gets, let's say it's F:, then open F:\epoc32\F.bat (so that's what
those stupid bat-files are for!) and the epoc-emulator willstart without
having to install anything!
You still can't acces your contactsdatabase, because it's not at the right place. Copy F:\System\Data\Contacts.cdb to
F:\epoc32\Wins\C\System\Data\Contacts.cdb, and now you can access your
contacts! All files in the F:\epoc32\Wins\C\ folder will appaer in the
C:drive of the emulator.

This only works if you keep your contacts on D: on your psion (the CF) and
not on C: !!

I tried this, and it works fine! No need for serial cables or extra software needed, only a card reader with USB connection you can buy everywhere, and
which needs no installation in XP.

And if you buy a SD to CF converter (Minolta SD-CF1) and an SD with build in
USB connection (Sandisk SD Ultra II Plus USB ) you even don't need a cardreader!! (NOT tested, anyone else did?)

Bas

Has any one ever tried this:

Use a SD-CF adapter (Minolta SD-CF1) with SD-card with build USB connector (Sandisk SD Ultra II Plus USB)? I don't know if it works. Someone else does? If so, you have a 5 mx with build in USB connection. Combined with nConvert, and/or with the JavaSDK (see my other topic in this Digest), you have a compltely software and hardware independent connectivitysollution for you 5mx! All XP PCs don't need extra software to recognise the USB-SD!

Thanks

Bas
