Answer to: Donald.

Dear Donald,

Some quick answers point for point.

>1- can I run both nokias software and psion software on the same pc without sycn. problems?

Yes. I'm running PsiWin, My P900 and Nokia's PC Suite at the same time.

>2- would i be able to beam a pdf file from netbook to 9500

Yes. With plBeam or CBeam from the Psion. On the 9210 there was a size limitation (bug) of 1 Mbyte, but not on 9500.

>3- Does Docs To Go support tables in a word doc, even after its been sycn a couple of times? Is Docs To Go really as good as it says?

As far as I can see, DtG does not support tables. It is not as good as Symbian Word in a Psion 5mx/netBook/9500 as far as I am concerned. Personally I use the RTF format as intermediate format when transferring files between 9300 <-> Psion 5mx.

I also use my own developed Symbian Word native format converter, which allows Nokia 9500/9300 to open Psion 5mx Word files and vice versa. This is still in Alpha for future release. No tables or other objects or advanced formatting supported at this point, but enough for my own needs.

>4- can I email a doc to my netbook and open it without problems? (I do use nConvert)

As far as I can see, DtG cannot SaveAs to other formats than MS Word 2002. Hence you need to use nConvert or similar.

>5- Does web browsing support banking online?

Yes. I have heard others having some problems with some banks though, so depends on the bank's website.

>6- can I print any doc I want by sending it out to a fax machine, using Nokias fax printing? (such as Word, Excell, PDF file ect...)
>Printing using the fax method would probably be the most important feature I would need. Please help!

Yes. Though I have to say I rarely use it. I rather print it as PDF and email it.

>7- can u print anything from the web

Yes. I'm using the Canon i80 Bluetooth+IrDA printer. Works very well. Use the BJC-55/BJC-85 drivers.

>8- Does T-Mobile give full support of this phone if I buy it unlocked? (they don't sell it)

Can't answer this one.

>9-Where can I buy one here in the US that will give and live up to a warranty?

eXpansys.

>10- would I be able to use the IR port between netbook and 9500 to receive emails on my netbook

Yes. It also works with GPRS for higher speed. I have not tried WiFi though, but what's the point anyway since you can have WiFi from the netBook.

To Austin,

I note that you successfully use a Nokia 6230i. I too have one, but have
been unable, despite many attempts, to link it to my Psion 5mx to send and
receive emails and to browse the web. I'd be grateful for any  suggestions/guidance that might help.

Andrew.

Subject: Mocha PPP,

Answer to: bas psion

Re.: Mocha PPP - I think you must have a setting wrong as MochaPPP is very simple to use. First of all do a soft reset. Than fill in the following :

MODEM
----------
Speed   115200 (and make sure MochaPPP has got the same speed !!)
Connection via :  cable

Options :  unimportant, whatever you want
Initialisation :  empty
Advanced :  none for flow control, 2x unticked and modem type "fixed line".

INTERNET
-------------
Direct connection
Account :  manual
Addresses : both from server
Login : empty
Advance :  tick plain text authorisation

Also, make sure MochaPPP is set to WindowsCE and not to Palm. Close your link and it must work. Also, make sure you right click on the Psion <-> sign on your PC and close it totally, otherwise Psiwin will keep the COM port occupied.

Re.: deserting the fold - Since you use a P910 I don't hink you deserted us, it is a Symbian machine and the digest is meant for EPOC and Symbian machines.

Re.: MochaPPP - Forgot to tell you that I use it all the time with broadband both at work and at home and it works very well.

Subject: Sorting in Data

Hello all!

This question was put forward a long time ago and by then I was (kindly) answered it was not possible to sort within Data with more than one field. For example, if I am trying to find out who [field in Data], living in the Rhone-Alpes area [field in Data], I should call on a particular day [field in Data] on a specific topic [field in Data], I cannot get the info from Data (one field only can be looked for).

As I would much prefer to stick to Data (and not spend hours on configuring smallBase or any other), I'd like to know whether they might be any program associated/integrated with Data which can perform
this.(OPL development ?)

Thanks for any info.

Peter I have no direct information on the European countries you list, but I am sure there are a number of errors.

In the UK we have flush outlets.  The plug pins are rectangular.  The live and neutral are 6 mm x 4 mm and in line with each other.  Earth is in the centre but higher than the others.  Size is 4 mm x 8 mm.

Only the live pin is switched and fused, unlike most European countries where both live and neutral are switched.  This could cause safety problems if a UK appliance was used reversed in other countries.  A fault condition could then cause live on the earth.  Voltage is now 230 volts.  Frequency is 50 Hz.

UK voltage was 240 volts, but this was changed to conform to a European Directive.  There was no actual change to the nominal voltage, but the plus & minus tolerances were changed.

Other European countries that were 220 volts were also changed to 230 volts and I understand that again only a change of tolerances.  However some countries, agree to the Directives but do not actually change.  I have heard that France is worst in this respect.

I think that you should therefore change 220 to 230 for Austria, France and Italy.  I also understand that the frequency in all of Europe is 50 Hz and not 60 Hz.

I know that the USA use 60 Hz.  The voltage is generally quoted as 115 volts, although my ham radio reference book uses 117 volts.  I also know that many properties are supplied with two 115 volt supplies which are also wired as 230 volts for high power appliances.  Most plugs are now 3-pin, having a round earth.

Subject: Re: DSLink, MochaPPP, Psion internet through PC

Helo,

Thanks for the many mails and messages to help me with the DSLink and/or MochaPPP problem.

I tried many things now:
* softreset the Psion
* restart the PC
* switch of the XP SP2 firewall
* give DSLink/MochaPPP all access in other firewalls
* remove PsiWin from startup and put DSLink or Mocha PPP there * switch off PsiWin and all its components
* uninstall PsiWin
* set the 5mx en MochaPPP baud rate at 115200
* set the COM-port rate at 115200
* disabble the internal modem (which is not connected),
only leave the USB ADSL modem
* switch off several apps en programs with windows task manager * check all settings again (5mx modem & internet, MochaPPP/DSLink) * ...

But nothing helps.

I also mailed TF VanDerZijden from
http://home.wanadoo.nl/thomas.vanderzijden/reviews/mocha/mocha.html He gave several hints, but also wrote (translated):
"On my old PC running Windows XP (first without, then with SP2), mocha didn't
run correctly, on my new PC, it does. I've never found out what causes the mallfunction".
"Op mijn oude computer met Windows XP (eerst zonder, dan met SP2) werkte Mocha niet, op de nieuwe wel. Ik heb nooit geweten waar het aan ligt."

I guess I'm in the same case as VFZijden with it's old PC :-(

Thanks any way for all your help!!

Bas

Hi,
I recently bought a netbook and it came with a CF containing OS Image version 1.05 (450) UK English ASCII. I was browsing to see if I could find a more up to date one and...couldn't find any at all...will have to be rather more careful with that CF than I originally thought ! Does anybody on Digest have a more up to date version or is that it ?
