I would like to remind you all when hitting the "reply" button to delete the subject field and replace it with the subject you write about. It is of coure useless to leave the "Digest no. XXX" in the subject field as it does not describe at all what you acutally write about. Thank you in advance for your co-operation.

I hadn't heard that they'd STOPPED making it.  Expansys still sell it.  And a quick Google didn't turn-up anything.

Anyway, I'd have thought we'd learned from our Psions that not being manufactured anymore doesn't mean it's not worth using.  Also Nokia doubtless will still support the device for repairs, and the 9300's availability should mean software continues to be available.

I would suggest judging the 9500 (or any phone/PDA) on what it does now, not what it might do, nor what might appear in the future.  I still have yet to see a Symbian-based phone that comes closer to the Psion 5...

Chris Handley

Subject: Sdict

I have Sdict on my nB. I keep the different dictionaries themselves on D:\documents\eBooks\Sdict. No problem with the dictionaries I've downloaded from Martin Guthrie's "Xtra Software" page.

Here comes the problem. I've downloaded other Sdict dictionaries, all with the same .dct file extensions as those in Martin's site, from http://sdict.com/en/  When I try to copy them into my Sdict folder, all the icons have a question mark instead of the big "S". First I was using a card reader, then I tried using Psion's serial cable, coping to both the C drive and the D drive. In each case when the copying starts and you see the file on the nB it has the proper big "S" icon. But as soon as the copying is complete, the icon changes to a question mark. Therefore the Sdict app doesn't recognize those disctionaries.

Does anyone know why this is happening and how to correct the problem?

Thanks Martin for all the great feedback.

This last reply from Itamar kinda hurts abit, Discontinue!

Re.: Nokia 9500 - Interesting reading as usual. However, the 9500 is not made anymore and investing in one could be investing in technology of the past, outdated and not to be developed anymore. Is it to be advised or not ?

All I'm looking for is a replacement for my great mx with a decent keyboard and screen size and easy printing of docs, on screen keyboards aren't cutting it, and screen sizes are just plain stupid for working on.

What would be the lastest US OS available for the 9500?

If i would be able to beam PDF files back and forth to and from netbook n 9500, connect to the internet through the IR port from Netbook to 9500 as well as collecting emails on my netbook using the IR Port to the 9500 - then I would most likely be fine if all will sync well to the PC running XP and office 2000 (never a problem with this combo so far for many years now) or maybe upgrading to outlook 200? (whatever yr. u guys reccommend upgrading to without losing my sync. capabilities with netbook and outlook)I would probably be very Happy :)

I have thought about how useful this would be many times - if you need help with testering it, I volunteer. Please do develop it further. I never understood why nokia did not use the same format as epoc, as this would have made a few (hundred?) thousand users very happy.

I liked the mBook so much that I ordered on for my stepson.  But he let it run down - and upon recharging, he can't get beyond the "My Schoolbook" screen.  So I sent him a chip with the OS version 1.05 (453) Release 158.  I didn't revive the mBook. I visited him a week ago and followed all the instructions about taking out both batteries and umplugging from the main power - and nothing happened.  We still only get "My Schoolbook".   In light of David's comment, I now wonder if I gave him the wrong version of OS.IMG (though that's the verion I have on my CF card and I think it worked once for me.)  If only 1.05(281) will revive the mBook, how can I obtain a copy?  Is there a way to transfer it from my own (working) mBook to the CF card in my D drive?  Or could there be some other explanation of why we can't get beyond the "My Schoolbook" screen.

TO All - esp. Itamar

Itamar - I think you recently had a problem with the wi-fi on your
Mbook after a hard reset. Did you ever get a remedy? I couldn't offer
help because I'd never encountered such a thing. But I have now!
nFtp and Opera have suddenly ceased to offer me a wi-fi connection to
my network (Apple Airport - but that's beside the point) from my
Netbook (an upgraded mBook); 24 hours ago it worked perfectly with
nFtp. I am directed instead to contact via various modems. I thought
it could be fixed by reloading the OS, which I did with no trouble
thanks to FastBackup. But the fault is not cured. I have tried
everything I can think of in the way of settings but to no avail,
including replacing Commsdb.dat. If you have the answer from your own
experience, will you please let me know.  And I'd be grateful for
help from any other source as well. TIA.

Dear psioneers,

Does the psiwin 2.1 soft that originally comes with the psion 5mx works with windows XP?
I had not probs with other versions of win, but i can not make my new win XP to recognise the psion.
If I need a different software, do you know where to get it from?
Thanks in advance for your time and kind regards from S Korea. Fernando.

Dear Max,

The simple answer is that it *IS* the same format!!!!

The only difference is that Symbian from ER5.1 and onwards is using Unicode with SCSU compression. So essentially what I have to add to a Psion Word application is SCSU to Unicode conversion followed by Unicode to Ascii conversion.

If you do this conversion the native Word format for Nokia 9500 and native Word format for Psion 5mx is the SAME.

Kind regards

I have asked this question in the past but have not received a reply.

I have several bogus addresses in my Nokia 9300/9500 address book.

Is there any way of tidying up the address book ?

I can't access the db file in the system because it is ALWAYS active;
I can't access it through the Macintosh Bluetooth browser because the
browser can't see the system files.

Bascially, I would like to kill the file and then do a fresh import
from the (intel) MacBook.

I am a blockhead. My NetBook (ex-Mbook) software version is 1.05 (450). A few days ago, on a kind of whim, I installed the Ethernet
upgrade. This was a bad move. Being unnecessary, it has proved to be
the cause of my wi-fi problem (or so it seems anyway). A day of panic
was the result - and a message to the Digest to waste space. My
apologies - to Itamar in particular. And yet another tribute to
FastBackup!

Hi,
I wonder if any other 9500 users have had the phone side suddenly telling you to  'please insert a sim card' when it was fine a few moments earlier. This happened to me 3 times one morning 2 months ago and then just yesterday, once. I have an unlocked phone and use Bt Genie or O2 as it is now. I have never had this trouble with any of the other phones it(the sim) has been used with. I can't recreate the fault so do not know what is the cause.

Cheers Jon Welford
