Subject: Htc TyTN
Answer to Itamar Engelsman:
Itamar, I could not agree with you more. I had spotted the Htc TyTN myself, which looks very much convincing on the hardware and form factor + keyboard side.
The same producer (I think) manufactures the device sold here in Belgium as the Qtek 9000 (I believe Expansys carries this, also in the UK). While heavier and less suited for the pocket, this device is even more akin to our beloved Psion line.
Alas, these little devils run on Win mobile.
Trouble is, Win mobile does not synchro out of the box with Mac OSX (although I believe there is a way with third party software). And I simply do not accept to still need a PC and a Palm, to act as a bridge between such pricey smartphones/PDA-phones with my new Mac.
Conclusion: yes, the SE P990 does not come even close in functionality to these Win mobile machines, and let us all hope that SE (and/or Nokia) come up with something in the same range soon.
Answer to Mike Dyer:
Mike, thank you very much for the link to the smartphone show. I will have a look and download episodes on my iPod 5G asap.
Kind regards,

Subject: Netbook screen dying?
Hello all,
Firstly, thanks for continuing to provide an extremely interesting read.
My main purpose in writing however is for advice. Yesterday a black and coloured 'jail bar' pattern appeared on the lower half of my netbook screen. Would I be right to assume this is likely to be the screen cable developing a crack and beginning to fail? I tried pressing down on the Series 7 badge (it's a 7-book) just in case that might help, but to no avail.
Has anyone else had this problem? Can anyone advise where I can get it fixed? I believe, possibly erroneously, that POS only do Series 5s and mxs.
Any advice you can offer would be much appreciated.
Thanks again to moderators and contributors for continuing to keep the list going. It is a most excellent resource.
All the best,
Ian

Subject: Corrupted spreadsheet on 9500, printing over network
Hi,
I posted a problem with moving around a spreadsheet embedded in a word doc which resulted in the screen corrupting. If I change view to full screen
the problem goes away. So I guess it is a bug - has anyone else seen this? I could send the actual file if anyone is interested.
Has anyone an idiots guide to printing via wifi to a printer (Canon Pixma) connected to a pc? must I use a print server? I have no problem printing from one pc to another over the wifi network.

Subject: - RE: Wifi with Mbook
Hi,
I used the Buffalo card on my Mbook and with an actionec router which used the older and slower 'b' wifi with no problems. I then upgraded to a faster 'g' router and in spite of it sending 'b' and 'g' I had to restrict it to 'b' only to use it - and I have to move into the next room to connect as signal/noise ratio is too high when close to the router. This info may (or may not) be of help!

Subject: WiFi on MBook, System folders invisible, netbook won't boot,
Answer to: Jim Watson-Gove
Re.: WiFi on MBook - Sure, I used that card that came with my mBook all the time until the mBook got a "shower" by a member of my family .... . Now I use the same card in a netBook I purchasesd from Pulster in Germany without problems. The only problem is to get it connected the first time. You will probably have to purchase time via a websurfing program and the question is whether or not the provider will accept Opera as a recognised program. If not, you will probably not be able to connect. I ahd that problem at the airport at Hamburg where they have a broadband service against tpayment but I could not get it to accept Opera as an acceptable program, you needed Internet Explorer or something similar.

Re.: System folders invisible - I suppose it is to protect the files in the System folder from being changed. I actually never put any files that need changing in the system folder so don't have the problem.

Re.: netbook won't boot - Sorry to hear about your problem. I am not sure who in the UK still services mBooks and netBooks. I do know that Pulster in Germany does do it and gives a good service. They will also be able to replace your netBook with either a new(ish) or a 2nd hand one.

Subject: proposal: Approaching the 1,000 mark
Hello,
like many readers, I am very thankful for the service that the digest team offers. To show our gratitude, some sort of a guestbook might be offered on the digest's homepage. There, our doubtless positive feedback could have a somewhat more lasting place than in a digest post, which ages quite fast.
In this context, I personally would welcome a picture of the team members on the website so that we can see who did this good service for us all these years (of course only if the team members agree).

I asked this a while back but nobody answered. Is there a program in EPOC that will show you the available wireless networks just like you can see on a PC ?

Answer to: Bob
Re.: Wifi with Mbook - Did you try to add your MAC address of your wifi card to the wireless settings under Wireless Management (or something like that) ? The MAC address is written on the card and if the router is set to allow only certain MAC addresses your card will not connect unless the number is added to the list.

Recently I synchronised my P901i again with my PC in order to synchronise the diaries to get the new Jewish Year on my P910i. Today I noticed that it had also synchronised my contacts again with the contacts on the PC. The problem is that I have organised my contacts on the P910i in internal folders and that the synchronisation process does not recognise that. This means that although (for example) I have John Smith both on the PC and the P910i, because on the P910i it is under "private contacts" the synchronisation will not recognise this and copy it again to the P910i. Today I spent around an hour to delete all the double entries one by one as I had to be sure I deleted the correct one.
Is there any way to change the synchronisation process or does this mean I simply cannot synchronise my contacts ?
Best regards,
Itamar Engelsman
