What spellchecker in the 9500 ? Where can it be got from ? I tried
installing the earlier Communicator spellcheckers but they don't work
in the 9500.

Hello to all
William (Fuggle) : could you please let us know more on the ability to work on teh E61 with "Word" or "Excel" if you use them, that is...What about the keyboard, for one thing ?
Also have you any idea whether there is the equivalent of Data or, preferably, a more sophisticated database running on the E61 ?
Thanks in advance.

I 4 1 would be interested in comparisons/details. I'm looking not for a replacement (there's no such thing) but for a practical device with a keyboard.

I am very interesting in your further views and opinions about E61, especially the Calendar application. In contrast to 9500 and 9300 the Week planner didn't have the option of different colors on the appointments, or I didn't find it.
Do you know of some 3rd party Calendar og Planning app. (apart from Aqua Calendar)?
The day view: Can it be set to see the different time slots during the day?
Are there any other functions you are satisfied with or dissatisfied with?

Re.: Htc TyTN - Well, not entirely true. I had an old Sony PDA that ran the the Palm software and I really disliked it. I used it for quite some time but decided against it and it is gathering dust in a drawer somewhere in the house. Maybe the later versions are considerably better. I still use my netBook for a lot of tasks and still get oh's and ah's from people who see the size and wonder what it does and where they can get it ....

I think after Psion Revo+, then SE p800 i've really come to appreciate the simplicity of the Treo 600.
Although the screen is low resolution it is bright and clear and very readable.
I can read a very clear diary ~ week to view with one button press. Tap the day with one fingernail
and it explodes to an hourly view, where I can quickly enter appointment details with the thumboard,
I can set an alarm here with two button presses.
It's very fast, and very natural to use.
There are a dozen built in calculators with conversions built in, a city time converter.
I've added a free file manager.
It's my main email device, memo pad, ebook reader, dictionary and thesaurus.
My mp3 player, mobile video player, mobile gaming device.
I carry and edit many Microsoft Office documents with Documents To Go, which automatically synchronise
with one button press.
I have also added free voice recording and video clip recording.
Also free instant messaging software, which is comfortable to use with the thumboard.
I have a cousin who has no pda and little computer experience, and his company gave him a Treo 650.
He has a much nicer screen than my Treo 600 and a slightly better keyboard.
He isn't the type of person who reads manuals yet has become very fluent in using the device which has also
become his main diary, and email device.
You just wind up thinking, this isn't a toy, it's a serious business device. I've had mine for 18 months now
and am still hooked.
It's not a Netbook replacement, but try putting that in your pocket.
Regards,
Mike Dyer.

9500 does not have a spell checker either. This is a serious step down frommy previous Psion 5mx. Apparently, there were some problems with licensingthe spell checker used in the Psions.

Subject: PDFs (and others) in Opera
Hi Folks,
Chris, I don’t know exactly why but Opera downloads those PDFs into it’s cache folder but the PDF program doesn’t open them. This happens with other file types too (I remember it happens to text files).
The answers is either to copy the file from the cache folder (and give it a meaningful name) or to use Web and ‘Download link’.
I hope that helps.
Happy days,
Phil.

Answer to William Fuggle:
William, yes, please by all means, could you comment more on the Nokia E61? In particular:
1. I played with one unit and found the thumboard a bit small, but
could type without errors. How do you find it with use?
2. Do you sync it OK with Apple iCal and Addresses? The iSync web page
does not list the E61 explicitly, but I suspected it was OK, because Apple says synching (via bluetooth?) is OK with Nokia Series 60. To my understanding, E61 is third edition of series 60. No problem then?
Thanks and kind regards,

Subject: Charity suggestion
To all subscribers
=============
We are approaching digest no.1,000. A small team of operators has consistently worked on a voluntary basis to bring you these digests which I believe have given us all a lot of information, joy, laughter and occasional irritation. In a way we feel a little like a community, being amongst friends. And the team will continue for as long as there is a demand for the digest.
I thought of ways to give something back to the operators but decided against the handling of money ourselves.
My idea is that we will all give an amount in our own country, small or large, each to his own abillity, to our favourite charity as a token of appreciation to the digest and send an email to the digest with the word CHARITY in the subject field how much we gave. We will keep a total telly of the amount without mentioning any names. You have received 1,000 digests without payment and this is a way to give something to the community, something good we can all do together.
If you don't like the idea, just don't do it, no one will know who did and/or did not give (besides the operators who of course will keep this information totally confidential, and we only see the messages that come in during our own shift). Let's see if we can all of us together get to a reasonable amount of charity. Again, the idea is to give something to your own favourate charity in your own country/town to your own abillity and only let us know the amount, not even the charity you choose which can be anything you feel is close to your heart.

Re.: E61 - User's View - Thanks for the details. i have just a few questions for you :
- You write that the keyboard of the P990 is too small for you, but it seems from the photos on the web that the keyboard of the E61 is not larger. Correct ?
- What OS software does it run? WindowsMobile ?
- Multitasking abillity, is that correct and any comments how well it works ?
- It has got WLan, is that the same as WiFi ?
I would be interested to hear more about this phone. Oh, and welcome back to the digest !

Subject: Re: Netbook screen dying?
Dear digestees,
Thanks, especially to Chris and Itamar, for your ideas regarding my screen and advice re Pulster as the most promising place for a repair. I have dismantled it (which doesn't phase me as I've done it before) and had a look at the cable, and indeed there is no sign of wear or cracking that I can make out. Nor were the contacts obviously oxidised.
Reseating the cable has not helped.
However I did make a discovery, and perhaps others here may be able to decide whether this is significant. I found a small flake of solder loose in the machine and as I put the circuit board back onto the machine I noticed that where it had been lying on the screen (those who've dismantled a netbook will perhaps be able to visualise how I'd lifted the board out and placed it gently on the tipped back screen) there was a minute component.
This component is about 1mm by 1mm by 1.5mm long and comprises a small green rectangle (of plastic?) on top of which is a (very slightly) smaller white rectangle (of plastic?). Around the middle of the white rectangle is wrapped some copper (possibly a very fine wire coil but I didn't have a magnifying glass to check and it might just be sheet copper with a slight grain). It occurs to me that the detachment of this component from the circuit board might well be causing my problem.
Can anyone more familiar with circuit board componentry tell me what it probably is? Or better where it might go? I assume it is from the top of the circuit board, but that is a guess, as I laid the board top downwards on the screen when I lifted it out.
It also occurs to me that if anyone has a good resolution photo of a Series 7 board, I might be able to spot where the missing component came from and solder it back on - though it is pretty tiny.
Anyway, thanks for listening, and double thanks if anyone can give me their thoughts on this.
Kind regards,
Ian

Answer to: William Fuggle
Please do give us more details of your impressions & views on the E61. I'm sure we would all find it very valuable (certainly more useful than handling some silly plastic mock-up in a shop!). I'm especially keen to hear how it has affected the way you do things.
BTW, my brother has an E61 & his greatest frustration is that the 'Record' key is too easy to accidentally press. Do you (or anyone else) know a way to disable it?
Re: 9500 screen cable failure
I have had a Nokia 9500 for a few years now & it has recently developed intermittent problems with its screen cable which causes the screen display image to break up when I open it. (reminds me of my old 5mx!)
Hs anyone had a similar problem?
This is now getting much worse & I'd like to gather suggestions as to what my options are to get it fixed. I don't think any of the UK networks carry this model any more so I can't buy another one subsidised on another year's contract & I can't really afford to buy one outright.
There is a little shop in my town that fixes mobiles but I'm not sure whether to trust them for this as it's more specialised than the normal run of the mill stuff they do.

Subject: Netbook RAM Upgrade
Where can one find information on the Netbook RAM upgrade module? Is it a Psion proprietary item, or a type of standard DIMM? If the latter, what are the specifications? Does anyone know of a source for them?
