Subject: Solver - a macro which offers a solver function for Sheet
Hello Digest readers,
recently the Digest team prepared for us the 1000th digest. Many thanks for their continuous individual and combined effort.
To celebrate the jubilee I decided to publish one of my older products. Here it is - nothing splendid, but it might help some of you some time.
Solver V1.2
===========
by Ulrich Hornstein, http://psion.uh-lab.de
DESCRIPTION:
A macro for Psion / EPOC ER5 machines to execute a simple solver function as well as a search for minima or maxima of a given function for the built in Sheet application. It runs a little slow, but still much better than doing a trial and error method by hand.
Keywords: Solver, inverse function, "was wäre wenn"
USE:
In Sheet, you may have programmed a complicated function. One cell (called 'target cell') shows the result of the calculation. Another cell ('cell to be altered') is the variable that influences the target cell.
1) Search value mode (Solver mode):
The macro determines for you, which value in the cell to be altered is necessary to get a certain value (target value) in the target cell.
2) Search Maximum mode:
The macro determines for you if your function has a maximum value in a given from ... to area. The function is examined in a defineable number of steps, if a maximum exists there. The real maximum of the real function will usually be somewhere around this 'stepped' maximum value. You can zoom around the stepped value and repeat the maximum search until you found the maximum in the desired accuracy. This zooming can be done repeatedly. More steps give more accurate results but take longer to calculate.
3) Search Minimum mode:
same principle as in Maximum mode.
It is ready to download on http://psion.uh-lab.de .

I backup the normal (PsiWin) way for C:\, where Contacts and iContacts are.

I use JB5StopGo to close all apps before doing a C:\ backup with PsiWin. All apps are closed when I do a backup. My D drive CF card is backed up via a card reader using a PC incremental backup program (Backup Platinum).

I tried EpocSyn some years ago, but never seemed to get the hang of it. It's not a case of synching, it's the fact that a PsiWin backup seems to miss a change now and then - both icontacts and contacts. So, unless I keep an eye on the backup, I don't know if my PC backup file is up-to-date or not for those 2 files.

That's my wonder, too.
> experiment with the Archive options
I keep only 1 Archive. I've actually never had to restore from an Archive.
> I am an Outlook synchronizer myself
I'm no MS hater, but I never use Outlook, and use Outlook Express only in an emergency. My e-mail client is TheBat (from Moldavia, I think). I played around with Outlook, synching with my nB, but decided I really didn't need it, what with duplicate entries fouling up the Calendar. I'm satisfied with Psion's Agenda (and the app Busyview) and weekly print out a 3-week calendar to post on the refrigerator from a PC calendar program I have. Being retired, I don't have so many "important" meetings, etc. I've never used the Alarm features. I reckon there are a lot of Psion features I never use - but I do love the machine! :-)
Happy Cycling,

Dear all,
Following my rather negative review of the SE M600i, you might find this article on the P990i interesting.
I am not particularly happy to find others sharing my views. I am unsatisfied with the way Symbian is going at the moment!

Try www.srsgmbh.de. I've used them, and am satisfied. They do most of their business by mail, but you can visit them, too, of course. Nice chaps to chat to.
Good luck!

I live in Germany, near the Dutch border, so any address in Germany or Holland
would be OK. I remember having seen a link in Germany.

Subject: RE: E61 email & docs useability
I don't know of any restrictions on size of emails on this device. (unlike feature phones but like most smartphones). When replying to a very large txt email, if you are quoting the whole mail and inserting at the top, there is a slight delay as the txt shuffles down but this is on screen only and you can carry on typing. I have happily downloaded Mb size emails, usually attachments. If you receive html mail you see the txt but then can view it in all it's glory by opening the html as an attachment, clicking on buttons etc.
Documents. Well it's early days but no problems so far. Just received minutes of meeting to check before they are sent out. Runs to 8 pages. Opens quickly, paragraphs, bullet points maintained. Easy to read at default size. Quick scrolling, instantaneous edit. Just like on computer. Another document to be checked before the office send out runs to 17 pages and similarly is no problem. It would be nice to have Markup and Track Changes features like MS Word but I guess that is expecting too much. I wouldn't write more than 1 - 2 pages at a time on E61 but longer than this I would tend to dictate anyway.
Can view as normal, header and footer or whole page (page map) which is useful. In page map view you can click the joystick which pops up a selection box area. You can move this around the page. 2nd click zooms in to area of selection box. Can then pan around the page at that (user configurable) zoom setting. Further click zooms back out to page map. Normal is fine for reading and editing but the page map is required for final layout if not polishing on full size device.
Spreadsheet: not really used yet.

Re.: Netbook Personality Module - The digest does not have separate sections for different subjects. Everybody is free to announce their spare or reuqired EPOC and/or Symbian equipment in the digest, however further negotiations are to be handled outside the digest by private email.
