Hi,
Does anyone have any tips/ideas/suggestions of how best to synchronise Agenda/5mx with Outlook/WinXP so I avoid all those duplicated and inaccurate entries that I got the last time I tried this??

Many thanks,

I use either:
a) Menu / Edit / Select / Reference (Input cell A1 to go to top etc)
          or
b) Ctrl+G

You can name cells in the spreadsheet and use these for jumping to locations throughout the spreadsheet.  I have a spreadsheet where column A contains dates and I name the first date of each month e.g.

Date: -----> Named
4-Sep-06 ----> Sep06
2-Oct-06 ----> Oct06
6-Nov-06 ----> Nov06
etc

I can then jump to the beginning of the entries for October by using
Ctrl+G / Named Cells / Oct06

I hope that this helps

Hi Moshe

I'll probably not be the first to give you this answer, but a soft reset
should solve the problem - it does on mine which has these symptoms
about once a year.

Once you've sorted it out, you may wish to install ResetPlus by Robin
Hood.  It sits in your control panel and gives a single click (or
Ctrl+C) reset.  It's at mypsion.ru/resetplus.php.

For Moshe - try a soft reset.  Next to the backup battery is a tiny
hole.  Stick the end of a paper clip into it. Then turn on the machine
and hit "enter".  Back-up your machine before you do this (you can
change to cable link by hitting ctrl-L and enter).  Mine does this
periodically for no reason at all and the soft reset always works.

To Moshe Nahir,

Re 5mx problem

I have had the touch screen on my 5mx stop responding in the past, my problem (I never identified what it was or what exactly lead to it, however I did have it occur two or three times) was always cured by carrying out a hard reset (removing all the batteries) after fully backing up the C-Drive (usually to the CF card).

The process I would do is:
1) back up the c drive to CF
2) remove all batteries (back up battery first then main batteries)
3) leave to stand for about 5 minutes
4) reinsert main batteries then back up battery
5) stop all running programmes
6) restore c drive from CF ensuring you over write all files
7) soft reset the machine (this ensures that any control files that are on the cDrive become active, ensuring all your programs are restored to full working order.

If this does not work, then there could be a problem with the touch screen matrix - this requires a new screen.  Or the problem could be the screen cable.

As for keyboard shortcuts I am not aware of one that brings up the extras, however you can run all the programs from the system screen (providing it is set to 'Show' in the Tools->preferences box).  All you have to do is navigate to the right System/Apps directory on the c or d drive (depending where the program is) and press enter on the *.app file.

There are also a number of applications that make the process easier, for example: Macro5, NoMore (can create short cuts on the system screen) and WinEpoc which provides a replacement for the system screen (see my other post).  I also remember an application, think it was called Extras, that brought up a list of all the installed applications so you can select one to run.

Also, you can create new Word/Sheet/Sketch etc files by using the Ctrl+n key from the system screen and choosing the app from the list.

Hope this helps.

David

Anniversaries and excitement...

When I posted my Anniversary, I did not expect it to spark such a response.  It was great reading how some of you started on your Psion Road and how many of us are still on it, keeping them going till such time they crumble to dust.  Some of the musings got me to thinking about milestones in my Psion life, and strangely these are not just marked by the arrival of a new machine, it was more than that.  It really does illustrate one of the factors that has made Psions so invaluable a tool and that is YOU, ALL of you!

So what keeps you excited about your Psion?  For me, every now and then I still get something new for it: new software, a new CF card; that sort of "treat".  What I want to do was tell you about the latest two:

2GB SanDisk Extreme III card.  When I purchased the 1GB Ultra II card to replace the older 512MB card I experienced a significant increase in speed on the machine, the Extreme III takes that card speed from 9MBs to 20MBs.  These are the stats from DiskBench:
Read Write
Internal: 0.08 0.15
Ultra II: 0.69 8.73
Extreme III: 0.69 3.92

This shows that the Extreme III card is 2.2 times faster for write which means that the netBook is capable of taking advantage of the extra speed.  However, this does not effect the read speed so there may be a minimum capable.  Bearing in mind that there is an Extreme IV card with a rating of 40MBs it is probably possible for the system to go still faster.  Internal memory is 8 1/2 times faster then the standard FAT formatted CF card showing that the C drive really should be used for any application that writes to disk.

The second is software, yep it is still possible to find good software out there and I was able to register it too!  It is WinEpoc!  I am not a particular fan of the way Windows does things but WinEpoc does give you a windows feel and does it very well.  It is being used to enhance my System screen and not replace it though I think it could.  It is well worth checking out - download the latest version from: www.jssolutions.cz.  The latest version was produce in January 2006!  The only gripe I have with it is that it is sometimes slow, however, I do have it installed on the D drive.  I will move it to C: and see if it goes any faster.

So guys, what new things have you added to your Psion recently to keep it exciting?

Regards
David Steer

It happens to me sometimes. Closing all programs is otten a solution. If not, a soft reset.
