Subject: Synchronising Agenda & Outlook (Office 2003)

Hi,

I find it somewhat ironic and risible that during the current debate about the future of the Digest quite a few contributors have said that the content has become boring and/or there is little posted on Psion matters to be able to assist others with.

I posted a message (copy below) on THREE separate occasions (4th and 28th November and 11th December) on the subject of synching their Psions' Agenda with Outlook on their PC/laptop. Despite reading in numerous Digests during this period and since, of the amount of people who say they successfully do this, it was particularly disappointing not to get a SINGLE reply.

Therefore, I'd like to make one last appeal for help from other Digestees on this subject please.

"Does anyone have any tips/ideas/suggestions of how best to synchronise Agenda/5mx with Outlook/Office 2003-WinXP so I avoid all those duplicated and inaccurate entries that I got the last time I tried this??"

Many thanks,

Gary Jenkinson

Lewis,

>>I have read digests 1007 & 8 giving positive feedback on WIFI on a Netbook. I am interested in doing the same, however I could do with some questions answered:

1. Will any WIFI card do, or are there specific ones to buy.  Do they need software drivers to work?  How do I set it up?<<

A popular choice is the Buffalo WLI-PCM-L11GP, which works well and does not block the stylus hole.

>>2. Which is the best software to use with them: web or opera.<<

Either will work, it depends on the particular websites you go to and which you prefer.

>>3. Which is the latest version of opera available for the Netbook & can it be downloaded free now, or is it still purchase only?<<

I believe that the latest version is the one that comes with tlhe netbook OS (ver. 5.14).

>>4. Can hotmail be read on the Netbook?<<

No idea, but I can well imagine that this is will not be possible.

>>5. Anything else relevant to a new WIFI user on the Netbook...<<

Whatever else you do, make sure that you set up the security (ie. WEP, access control) of your WiFi network properly. There are those who believe that, just because you are using a Psion, your wireless transmissions are somehow safe; they are not. Although WEP is reknowned for not being particularly strong, it is infinitely better than nothing.

I hope this helps.

Timothy,

>>If the new iPhone is based on MacOS X, it really doesn't matter what is missing in software because in time, programmers will be make the necessary shareware.<<

I was amazed to see that apple had equipped the iPhone with OS X, although there have been Linux phones around for a while, so maybe it's not that suprising. The price of the iPhone however looks prohibitive; in my (Dutch) daily newspaper, they said that the 4GB model would cost $499 in the US, *after* having signed up to a 2-year contract. It's certainly a nice looking device though...

Cheers, Ian.

Just another 2c:
What if you allowed it to self-regulate? Just announce that as of now any questions regarding largely PDAs and preferably keyboarded ones are welcome? Maybe after a while you could deduce a statistic of what direction the Digest has actually taken and then define it more strictly without much ado... :-)

best,

vlad a

Hi everyone,

Thought I would add my thoughts to this debate.

I own the following devices (although I am not expert in any of them !) :-

Psion Revo
Psion 5mx
Psion netBook
2 x HP Jornada 720's (Windows CE with a built in keyboard)
HP iPAQ 2210 (Windows Mobile 2003SE)
HP iPAQ hx4700
Sony Clié S320 (Palm USA Import)
2 x Sony Clié SJ22 (Palm)
Sony Clié T625 (Palm)
Sony Clié TH55 (Palm - last model Sony made before withdrawing from the market)
Sony PSP ... oops! .. let's not go there !
Although I can surf the internet on it !
Sharp Zaurus SL-5500 (Linux with small built in Keyboard)

A fair collection you must admit !
Now if we are going to use the "keyboard"
criteria the Psions would be safe (by their very
nature) but everything else would be eliminated
except for my HP Jornada's and my Sharp Zaurus ...
BUT they use Windows CE and the very rare Linux mobile OS !

Wait a minute though !
I can attach an external keyboard (some small and
some almost full size) to all my other Palm's/HP
iPAQ's so would they be allowed in ?

Support for Palm's/Pocket PC's is a little
difficult to find on the internet and Newsgroups,
and I have to muddle on really if I have a
problem on them, as there is nothing like the Digest to help with problems.
Also I have no intention (at the moment) to go
the Smartphone route (although I do have two
Nokia 6230i's with a built in camera), as to me
the seem to do a lot of jobs but none of them really well.
Maybe when they have a decent 7 or 8MP camera in
and either a Palm or Windows Mobile 5 Operating
system where there is a really good choice of
software, then I will reconsider !
Also a small size, keyboards aren't that
important to me in a Smartphone as I do all my emailing on a Desktop or Laptop.
We ALL have different needs and I am really a
"hobby" computer user now, not using them for any business purposes.

I will NEVER unsubscribe from the Digest no
matter what, as I think the people who run it
(Itamar, in particular) have been so helpful to
me in the past and the people who write in are
friendly and interesting... it is more of a
community really and I for one am not going to abandon it !
Anything to do with Computers/Smartphones/PDA's
is of interest to me if not now, the knowledge
gained will be of use in the future !
Once again.. thanks to you all !

Kindest Regards,
Steve Denney

Could anyone email me a registration code for Thomas Nemec's apparently abandoned TimeLog program for EPOC?

Of course if Thomas makes himself known, I'll gladly register - it's a really useful piece of software.

My address is what you get after removing the numerals from:

TIA,

Chris

Dear digestees,

Is there an easy way to obtain a copy of all the digests to keep on a large cf card with my psion? Obviously I could download and save each .html page individually but that would take a very long time and it occurs to me someone may be able to point me to an already assembled collection of all the digests - zipped or otherwise. (I assume I'm not infringing anyone's copyright here?!)

The psion index is a marvellous resource I keep on my psion, but I am often away from the internet when I want to learn how to do something or other with my psion. With storage now so cheap - 4GB cfs for just £17.99 at 7dayshop.co.uk - I can see no reason not to keep all the digests on my psion available for perusal.

Regarding how the the digest should change, I am very happy continuing to listen in to everyone's discussion of potential new platforms, but am personally most interested when people describe how they are still using their psions and discovering new things they can do.

Thanks in advance. And thankyou to all those who make the digest such an interesting read and a useful resource.

Ian
