Subject: Psion Revo Battery Charger
Hi,
I have a Psion Revo (Diamond Mako), now running 7th year. I find it requires frequent charging of the battery. The battery-charger I got with the set was nonfunctional from the beginning and I got one made/assembled by my
neighbour electronic engineer. Though small, it is a bit heavy , and hence clumsy to carry around. Do you think I can use some mobile-phone charger or some similar light weight charger for the same? It is written 6v DC at the socket on the instrument. If I should look for the same in an electronic shop, what are the specifications I should be careful about?
Best rgds,
Thomas Antony

> Are you really sure you want to keep all these features in one "box" ?
For me, it's all about convergence. Sure, if I loose/break the unit I'm stuck, but to be honest I'd prefer to look at the "glass half full" perspective. That is, the more features that are available on the one unit, the more chance there is that I will use them and the more I benefit from them. I have always been very heavily dependent on my PDAs - be they Psion or combination devices like my P910i - and this means that in the vast majority of cases, I benefit greatly from what they have to offer. Of course, on the odd occasion that I misplace them, I am about as useful as a chocolate fireguard ... Having GPS built in, means only having to bring one device, one charging cable and not having to remember to bring the GPS unit along when travelling and renting a car, for example.
> I had a look at the Kaiser website but don't see the thumbboard being any better than the Qtek or HTX TyTn so I think the angle of the screen is just a gimmick. It looks good when put on a table but I use my Qtek mostly handheld when the flat angle makes it easier to work with.
Have a look at these pictures: http://www.theunwired.net/./?itemid=3706 You will see the Kaiser offers both options - flat slide out or slide and lift. It's also considerably thinner than you own phone ...
> And the price ..... ?
I have yet to see any reference to this, but when I bought my P910i, the list price was EUR700. I would say the Kaiser should be no more expensive. A massive amount of money, sure, but then again it does offer a massive amount of functionality (that's what I say to myself to justify the cost ;-)). Waiting for the phone to be subsidised by an operator will bring the cost down dramatically, but - if the comments of others in the Symbian world are anything to go by - this is an issue because of the artificial restrictions network operators tend to impose and the restricted access to ROM updates, etc.

My guess is that commentary on WM apps and OS features are now welcome in the Digest. I, for one, would be very interested to hear what you and other Digesters use on WM. When/if I get a Kaiser, I'd love to know what are the must-have apps. I don't yet own a WM device, but I have started to keep a list of interesting software that I intent to get when I buy my WM device. I have not used these so can only go on other people's views:
Software I intend to install:
http://www.ebswift.com/PocketPC/WordNet/ free dictionary/thesaurus
http://www.inesoft.com/eng/index.php?in=calcnote freeware popup CalcNote for Pocket PC
http://www2s.biglobe.ne.jp/~dat/java/project/jvm/index_en.html freeware Java JVM product for WM. If it works, should allow me to run my beloved JABP personal banking application on WM
http://www.happyjackroad.net/idea3/idea3.asp freeware idea capturing/structured note taking software
http://www.sompy.com/sw.html freeware movie encoding software to convert films to PDA-format size.
http://www.operamini.com/download/pc/qtek/qtek_9100/ Freeware Opera Mini (example URL for Itamar's phone - lots of different phones available) I use this on my P910i. It's a thin client browser which means the "surfing" is done by an Opera server and the PDA-reduced output (=less date) is sent to your device. This makes it faster and cheaper.
WM sites I currently visit:
http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=128278 Frequently updated list of "Best Pocket PC Freeware - A Starting Point"
http://justanothermobilemonday.com/Wordpress/category/games-themes-multimedia/the-arcade-freeware-games-roundup/ Monthly review of freeware Games
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ WM Freeware site
http://www.freewareppc.com/ WM Freeware site
http://pdadb.net/ Database on all current and forthcoming WM phones. Great reference site.
Hope others find the above useful. Of course, views from those who have actually used the software would be good too!
All the best from Dublin, Ireland

Subject: Psion Revo problems
Hello, *
Since the batteries in my Psion Revo have been replaced, it has a strange way
of functioning. If I set an alarm, ans the Psion is on battery power, the
alarm goes off, but no sound is heard. Sounds are NOT muted, of course, and
id the Psion is on mains, the sound works too. But not if the Psion is on
battery power.
Occasionally, the Psion refuses to come alive after such a day. That is: no
reaction when the case is opened, none when I touch a key, none when I touch
the screen-- the screen remains blank. However... as soon as I connect the
Revo via cable to a PC running PsiWin, the screen comes back. The clock is
still running on time, and no data are lost!
Weird, isn't it? Anybody having a clue?

Subject: Adjust contrast on Psion 3a?
My manual isn't lost, I just can't find it! Is there an online Psion manual extant?
I [still] enjoy keeping up with Psion errata via the Digest, thank you.
