Subject: problem with 1 Gig memory card for Series 5 mx
Dear Psion users:
I have a very well stocked Psion Series 5 mx -- the C drive is heavily
loaded, as is the memory card I've been using for a long time (250 meg). I
use the Psion for a zillion personal and business tasks and have never
found anything to match this superb little machine for reliability,
efficiency and versatility. I have used Psions in various incarnations
since 1993.
I recently bought a 1 Gig card from Simple Tech, thinking my space problems
would be solved. To my surprise, however, the card is not working very
well. For several years, I have used several Simple Tech cards that
function quickly and perfectly; I have gradually worked up from a 32 meg to
a 250 meg memory card, with no discernible change in the way the card
reacts. The 1 gig, however, is astonishingly slow.
Since my C drive did not have the space for me to subdivide (Tidy/Extract)
a huge Agenda file (about 900K when compressed), which contained two years
worth of entries, I decided to transfer the entire Agenda to the 1 gig
card, and subdivide it there. It copied the Agenda quickly and normally.
But from then on, it did not seem normal at all. The process of tidying had
begun on the C drive before it ran out of memory, and was proceeding very
briskly. On the new 1 gig card, removing 6 months worth of day entries and
copying them to another file (also on the new card) took "forever" --
around 25 minutes! On the C drive (or the 250 meg card) it would have taken
about a minute and a half. (I've done this many times in the past.)
Has anyone else had this disappointing experience with a very large memory
card? I would welcome any advice or comments.
Thanks in advance,
Betsy Baker

Subject: Tom Tom 6,
Att.: Ashley Burrows <address truncated>
Re.: Tom Tom 6 - Thanks for the answer, I got it to work as well with the new GB map. However, I now find that whenever I do soft reset (my back-up program does one every morning at 4 am after backing up my phone) TomTom tries to reinstall itself which of course fails as it is not connected and than it automatically opens the navigator software. The result is that the phone stays on and does not switch off after that which eats up about 50% of the battery by the time I wake up to switch it off. I had to switch off the automatic backing up. Did you have this as well ? If so, do you know how to stop this ?
Best regards,
Itamar

Subject: Route Color Icon
At one time on my netBook I had, on the Extras Bar, a color icon for Route (Enroute) that was something like a road sign. Because of various problems, I now have the two hands icon, just like the TomTom CityMaps' icon, except gray.
I've checked the color icons collection on Martin Guthrie's web site, but they seem to be the two-hands type.
Does anyone out there have a color icon (the .aif file) of the old Route app they could send me?
Thanks.

Problem solved. Don't know why I had done this, but looking in the Enroute app folder I found I had not only an Enroute.aif file, but an xEnroute.aif file. I renamed the Enroute.aif to yEnroute.aif and the xEnroute.aif to Enroute.aif - lo and behold - I now had the "autobahn" sign back. I then deleted the yEnroute.aif file.

Subject: I-mate Ultimate 7150 - a Nokia E90 killer?
Got my Palmtop user mag in the post today, and discovered this cute thing: http://www.mypocketpcmobile.com/imateUltimate7150/tabid/226/Default.aspx
It looks the spitting image of Nokia's E90, bar a few minor
differences, and it has the major plus of having a touch screen! Even the downside of running Windows Mobile 6 might not be so bad when compared to Nokia's choice of Series60 for the E90...
Since Windows Mobile 6 is going to be evolutionary, rather than revolutionary, I wonder if it is too much to hope that it won't crash
all the time & run out of memory?
