OK, maybe they just stopped supplying UK/Europe - but I was under the impression that they were no-longer manufactured (because of the E90).
At the very least keep an eye on the availability of them, as they
might quickly run out of stock....

Correct.

Correct.

I meant (you can't) print-to-fax from the Psion *using* the Nokia 9500
as a fax modem.

You can (apparently) use it as an IR modem - just not a fax capable one.

I have not checked this myself - but some I had done a quick search
and some tech-savy-sounding people tested the 9500, and (a) failed to
use it as a fax, when presumably they could fax using other phones,
and (b) querying the modem (using a serial terminal & AT commands)
reported no fax capability.

BTW, I had fax capability enabled on my Orange mobile contract for NO
cost.  And I suspect that would be the same in many European
countries.

Yes.

For your reference:  EPOC (Psion) uses 8-bit ASCII characters, while
Symbian uses 16-bit Unicode characters, so although the Word/etc
formats are (apparently) very similar from a programmer's point of
view, they are completely incompatible from a file format point of
view.  Someone was trying to write a 'dumb' utility to convert between
8-bit & 16-bit formats, but it was never finished AFAIK.  Sadly.

Chris Handley

P.S.  I copied this email to the Digest, even though your last reply
did not do so, since I figured that explaining my (apparently
ambiguous) answers might be helpful to other people.  And if I made
any mistakes, they could be pointed out...

check this out - Perhaps a begining

I've seen it mentioned an tested on other sites, and it's nice... Not as long battery-life as a netBook, but still...

As for the 'new concept' hype *Sigh*...
It's not even close to being the first in this size.

We have our netBooks, Olivetti had their Quaderno, the OLPC is the same approximate size, and I'm certain there's been a few others, too.
I'm not certain, but I think the Compaq Contura Aero was slightly larger. (Not to mention the Toshiba Libretto which was even smaller)

That said, if I wasn't COMPLETELY broke at the moment(can't even afford a new Airport card for my ailing iBook, so have to use the HP nc2400 12" laptop my office gave me), I would already have one on order...
