Subject: Asus eee PC
As Bob has done, I have ordered an Asus and I'm confident it will do everything that a Netbook/Mbook does (with less efficiency of course) and more (easy wifi, USB, webcam, better speakers?). I also ordered a 16 GB SDHC card which I hope works. What is wild about the Asus is the whole subculture of hacking and modifying the thing. They (the hackers/mod'ers) are changing the screen resolution, putting in extra USB ports, making Macintosh OS X work, and even adding a touch screen that one can scroll on like an iPhone - warranty voided of course. I would predict that Netbook/Mbook users will be pleased with Asus eee laptops and trade info on this Digest on what works and how to transfer Psion files.

Subject: Contacts
Bits of information within an entry in my Nokia 9300's Contacts seem
to disappear when I export to Address Book on the Mac.
What am I doing wrong ?

Subject: LOG Nokia 9300
I was astounded to discover that I had spent all my monthly credit
with Orange. I am convinced that I have used the phone less than
Orange maintains.
The Log on my Nokia 9300 seems to prove me right; unfortunately I can
find no way of getting the telephone log from the Nokia into another
program.
Is there a way of doing it ? I see the log can be printed but I don't
see how to print via bluetooth.

Subject: MaruNav
I have MaruNav on my Nokia 9300. It does what the Psion 3 and 5 did -
it allows you to work out the distance between two places.
Unfortunately I can't speak German. Could some kind soul tell me what
exactly I need to do to get the distance between two places not in
MaruNav's database ?

Subject: EPOC machine
To Joseph Hamwee
Thank you much for your extremely generous offer. I now own a 5mx (in fact a spare as well) and it is truly tempting to have a Netbook. The problem is I need it for email and Web as well, which is not available on the 5mx, and which is why I have been looking for a replacement. I am not that familiar with the Netbook in that respect, which explains my hesitation in responding to your offer. If it does not have Web capacity, perhaps someone else could benefit more from your Netbook than I would. In any case, again I am very grateful for you goodwill and generosity.
Greetings from a (very) deep freeze

>I have an S5mx and a Psion 7 upgraded to Netbook. Both working well but not used for some time. You may have either or both for payment by donation to a health related charity such as Great Ormond Street Hospital or Macmillans or cancer research in the UK. The items are located in London England and I shall make sure that they are still in good working order if you are interested.

Subject: Advantage 7501 > x7510
To Alan Rabbitte:
Thanks very much for your thorough discussion re the HTC 7501 and your thoughts and advice.
>Why compromise - if you want a device about that size why not buy a UMPC - oh, and a phone.
The TyTN II looks really good, but the screen is somewhat too small for me as I use the unit for Internet and writing as well as for email and its PIM features. So it looks like the Advantage (even more so its soon-to-arrive x7510 upgrade; see below) is nearest to my needs, though, as you say, it's not even close to the 5mx in most functions. I think I may then wait a while, perhaps one of those manufacturers gets some common sense for a change and builds a unit with both a decent keyboard AND a decent size screen.
Also, perhaps something will come out of the long-promised German Road handheld.
Anyway, thanks again for your advice.

To Itamar:
>- Hi Moshe, good to hear from you again. I have no experience with the 7501 but if you would like to continue using a Symbian / Epoc machine I would advice you to try and get a 2nd hand mBook or netBook.
Thanks, Itamar, good to be back (never left, though, just lurking..). And thanks for your thoughts and good suggestions.
Though I agree it would be great to continue using a Symbian/ Epoc unit, and I have been looking/waiting for one for some years now, I do need a machine that has wireless email and Web, a decent keyboard, and a decent sized screen. The only one I found close to this is HTC's 7501, all others lacking in one respect or another. Certainly none gets close to the 5mx. If I have missed something, I will greatly appreciate being informed.
By the way, the HTC's 7501 is soon to be upgraded to x7510, which looks more attractive, though I still don't like the magnetic keyboard method.

Subject: UMTS phone compatible with Psion?
A local store is selling reasonably-priced data SIM cards - about EUR 20
per 2GB. This may be a good solution for Internet access when no wireless
hotspot is available. Since these SIM data cards only work in UMTS
compatible cell phones, I would have to get a new cell phone.
My question: can anyone recommend a good UMTS cell phone that works well
with a Psion (IR support a must), and/or with a Pocket PC (Bluetooth or
IR). I've been using a Siemens S35 for many years with good success, but
it doesn't support UMTS.
Thanks for your help,
Peter
