I have a Malaysian netBook. 1 is Bombs (I don't play games); 2 is nFTP (only connect via my PC); 3 is Color Magic (once I've gotten what I want in my Scheme, hardly ever use it); and, 4 is Comms (see 2).
As you can see, I'm using those silk keys to hide what I don't use because I like to see the colored icons of those I do use, in the regular Extras section. I use NoMore on my 5s and Mako to do the hiding, but, if you remember, my netBook does *not* like the NoMore app. I did start out putting some frequently used apps on those 4 silk keys, but didn't like not being able to see the pretty colors just to save 1 click. :-)

Subject: 9210 email storage
I've never tried loading up my 9210 with hundreds of emails (as I have done in the past on my old 5mx) but there used to be problems when the index file had to cope with so many individual files - the Email application would gradually slow down to a crawl. Applications such as the excellent SaveMail solved this problem by clearing out the Email application but no such software exists for the 9210. Has anyone tried storing a large amount of emails on their 9210, if so, any problems?

9210 DIRECT PRINTING
Can anyone share their experiences of printing directly from a 9210 to a printer via IR? I've tried doing this to a Canon BJ-10 (which is in the built-in drivers list) with very poor results. Unfortunately, unlike the poor ER5 drivers which can be upgraded by using Andrew Johnson's 3rd party ones to significantly improve printing, there are no such improved drivers available for ER6.
PGP
I recently emailed Psiloc regarding registration of some of their products, explaining that I don't have easy access to a secure browser (and Opera seems to fail when I try). They replied as follows:
"You can order required products from our internet shop (http://shop.psiloc.com) and select "Wire transfer" payment method 2) You can send your credit card details to us via email (secure using PGP)."
I do have PGP installed on my S7 but have never used it. There isn't a help file as such but it does come with a couple of long documents about PGP in general. I know very little about using PGP anyway and it seems a shame there isn't a quick start help guide for beginners. Can anyone explain how to use PGP for sending my card details to them in nice and simple jargon?

Hi All
My days of EPOCness are coming to an end. I have finally bitten the bullet and given up my job in IT support in the newspaper industry. Trying to do the work of four people (seriously) whilst training someone else became unfunny. The plan was to go and live on Shetland in September, but there seems no time like the present. I will be arriving on the island without a job, home or car. Exciting times ahead I imagine, or reckless times as I am sure some of my soon to be ex-colleagues are thinking. Never mind!
Its time to sell the last of the EPOC stuff in my house as the money from this and other stuff is what will be needed to put a roof over my head and food in my stomach in the first few weeks. I have either suffered an unfair amount of time wasters or their emails have not got through, so some of this stuff will have been previously advertised. Anyway, it is all dead cheap now and still only available to those in the UK.
First the free stuff. All for Psion3 series handhelds. Personal Accounts and Expenses on SSD. PsiMail Internet on floppy. Symantec Act! on SSD. Data Deluxe on SSD. Psion 3a parallel printer interface. One per person. Send me an envelope with £1.50 in stamps in it and I will return the software as soon as possible.
Now the expensive (!) stuff.
Navigator (floppy), copy of original black and white version as well as the colour replacement floppy from Purplesoft. £20
Powerbase (floppies) RDBMS. £20
En Route (CD) plus Route Planner Millennium Upgrade CD. £20
Street Planner 99 (CD) plus Street Planner Millennium Upgrade CD. £20
Berlitz Phrase Book (floppy) common translations between Danish, Dutch, English, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Portugese, Russian, Spanish and Swedish. £20
CoBuild English Dictionary. £20
All of the above are in their original boxes and have manuals where supplied.
Psion parallel printer link for Siena/3c/3mx/5/5mx/mc218/7/netBook. In original box £10.
Chris Archer manufactured Psion serial lead. £10
In car holder for Psion 5/5mx/MC218. Steel construction with flexible shaft. £20
Pegasus 3 (v90) modem with PC and Psion leads and instructions, boxed with UK plug convertor. £20
Psion UK power supply unit for the 7/netBook. £15
Now the non-Psion stuff.
Adobe Photoshop 5 LIMITED EDITION CD. Still sealed. £10
Linux 7.2 Pro, CDs, DVD, manuals, box, HEAVY. £30
Star Office 5.2 CD, manual, box £20
Mandrake Linux 7.0 CD, floppy, manual, box £15
Corel Gallery Magic - 65,000 vector clipart images and photos plus fonts and web theme sets on 2 CDs still sealed (presumably in Corel's picture format). £15
Nokia 6210e unlocked from Orange and now runs T-Mobile and Orange sims, although the sim convertor is not part of the sale. The phone is about 15 months old but has a battery that is either 1 year or 9 months old. I have mixed them up! The phone is always kept in a case and is in very good condition. It will come in its original box with all of the original paperwork and the software CD, as well as the manual and psu. The phone will be shipped to you on 2 June 2003 at the latest. I will want to have the money up front though to avoid time wasters. £45 including special delivery.
If you are interested in any of the above, please text me (please don't ring me) on 0795 1187228. Make sure that you leave your mobile number if your phone doesn't send it out. If I dont contact you back it means that the item has been sold. I will let the list know what is still available.
Thanks
Andy Haye

Are you referring to the indexing of map files for zooming or the registration of the Lat/Long of each chart?
I've found that the registration needs to be spot-on for the zoom out and back in, to return to the same map/chart. The problem that I have is that I use OS land maps and RealMaps is only Lat/Long. I need to rotate the scan, but can't get it perfect.

You can rename files (01) and keep a copy of the replaced file, so if any changes have been made, you can copy/paste and not lose that info.
I do however find the limit of only three profiles a bit of a restriction. But as Owen said, well worth having.

I have seen numerous posting on this and though I have not experienced it myself on either of the netbooks I have owned or a 7 and have not had to recalibrate my current netbook since I bought it over 5 months ago (There was a suggestion that sharp knocks to the netbook could cause this recalibration problem, though I haven't tested it, regorously, other than casual tossing of it in a case and back pack and all has been well), I do not think there is a work around, I have a feeling that it was a hardware problem. Sorry for that, hopefully someone else will say differently.

Then the usual password and username.
That should do it, let me know how you get on. I have used the psion wap browser well with the phone also but not got it to work with GPRS and I understand it is not possible.

Subject: Re: OS X Backup
Hi again,
Thanks to Itamar and to Simon who reminded me there are other ways to make a backup. I already have a large enough CF card and a 6 in 1 card reader so as I type my Psion is in the process of backing up.
I used to have a strict weekly regime under OS9 but must admit I've been using my Psion far less than I used to in the past and this seems to have extended to my backup sessions (for my Psion that is - all my Macs are being backed up regularly). I wonder if this is because I know its days of usefulness are now numbered. There still doesn't seem to be a replacement solution in sight - at least for me. I may have to jump ship and go to Palm. But no keyboard? I dunno about that. As has been pointed out by Rolf you need pretty consistent handwriting to make that work.
And now that all our devices are converging (pda/laptop/phone/desktop/mp3player/camera/video/fridge/etc) I'd really like something which I can synch with my Macs rather than merely backup to them. There are four iBooks and an iMac in the house all connected via Airport on a broadband connection ("Honey, email the kids and tell them dinner's ready"). We have three iPods (not just an MP3 player, Owen). We have external firewire/usb drives for video, music, backup, file transfer plus the card reader mentioned above and we share a printer via a wireless connection. It'd be just great if a Psion replacement could slot into that lot somehow, still with a touch-typeable keyboard and small enough to fit into my wee bag.
I guess I'll keep hoping and waiting.
Thanks again, Itamar and Simon.
Cheers
Greg in NZ

The ME45 is supposed to be waterproof, so this could help if the depth is diveable ;)

Here I cannot help. But both phones were described to me to work with a 5mx or a MC218. I have been advised mainly from German Psion users to the ME45, which I am expecting to arrive soon.
The S45i i supposed to be electrically the same and looks better IMHO, but I prefered the better ruggedness of the ME 45.
So far my 1ct.

This seems the way to go in photo resizing, but I've not managed to make it work. I keep getting out of memory errors, or Nconvert just hangs. I tried putting the photos on D (32 MB free) and getting Nconvert to save the converted output to D as well. No joy. I can convert JPG to BMP and BMP back to JPG, but as soon as I try to modify the picture size (either from JPG or BMP), I get errors.
I CAN resize smaller images (JPGs up to about 150k), but my digicam photos are generally 650-700k, so it must be a working memory issue.
What original pic size do you work on, and how much memory do you have free?

Subject: Rolf B. - Software licences
Hi Rolf (et al),
The usual reason for shareware licences being "non-transferable" is not to stop people selling them along but to stop people *just* selling licences and still keeping/using them. To do this requires the kind of restriction often seen but if the licensers are asked they will probably say there is no objection.
It is indeed better to tell the original licensers anyway but in the UK there is no requirement other than courtesy. Few software vendors will ask for an extra fee and the "non-transferability" is probably not supported by law. Understandable though.
Take care,
Phil.

Subject: Contacts problem
Hello everyone. I would appreciate some help please.
I have a Revo (8mb) which is used almost exclusively in Agenda and Contacts modes. Apart from occasional battery problems, I have used it for about two years and I am well satisfied with it. The Revo now has about 1,300 contacts stored - mainly name, address, home phone, business phone, mobile phone, e-mail address and occasionally some notes in 'Other'.
Suddenly, it has developed the following problem: Contacts refuses to open. None of the items in Extras responds. If I go into System and try to switch the cable link to 'on' it comes up with the message 'Information not found' and invites me to continue.
Agenda works as normal, Phone works as normal, Time works as normal, Calc works as normal and Jotter also works as normal. E-mail does not respond.
Memory is showing 41 per cent used.
I am hoping that it is me that has done something stupid rather than a failure on the Revo. Please can anyone help?
Many thanks.
Brian.

Mine are (1) Palmtop Money, (2) Purple Navigator, (3) RMR Fuel and (4) ChasDis 7. Useful tip - don't forget folks, you can make your other silkscreen buttons user definable by placing whatever app you want alongside the main buttons within Control Panel. Then, when you want to launch that app, press Control and then the silkscreen button adjacent to your preferred app and voila.
