Go to http://bioeddie.co.uk and navigate to the Psion emulators page and down to those released in 1998.
I cannot comment on the legality of the site. I found it with a Google advanced search for all the words Psion er5 and emulator.
It gave 346 results in less than half a second.
The download is a 20Mb ZIP file

I left a word out - "all the OPL *applications*". The problem only relates to OPL applications that also use the Toolbar library built into the ROM. Run the "Bombs" game and you'll see that where the battery indicator should be, there's just a small black triangle. That's the bug. Bombs is the only built-in program affected because it's the only one written in OPL!

If you haven't installed any third-party programs, which are usually written in OPL, there wouldn't have been anything to notice, and maybe you dismissed the triangle in Bombs as something to do with the game.
On the other hand, if Bombs looks fine for you, press Ctrl+H in the System screen and let me know what the version and release numbers are.
BTW, my patching program can't do anything with the Bombs app - it's in ROM (Read Only Memory) and can't be written to (patched).
Also, I've been advised the Toolbar bug exists in regular netBooks too. As yet, I haven't heard anything about Series 7 machines.

Unfortunately that version was onlt really intended to run on the 5mx. It should run in the top half of the screen on a S7/nB - but it's certainly not optimised for those machines. To be honest, I never got around to finishing the app. off - it's still a (somewhat buggy) beta release. And no, there's no colour on it! ;-) If people really, really want, I might be persuaded to resurect it for an S7/nB release - but be warned that there's at least one (maybe two, possibly even three <G>) apps in the early stages of development in front of it!
<<<<
Further to my own reply posting on the subject yesterday, I thought I'd better check to see if I knew what I was talking about. Clearly I didn't... (Well, I did originally write the program 4 years ago!) In fact, the game plays pretty well on my netBook - the extra processor power makes it much more playable IMHO. A little slow perhaps - but of course I'm just trying to emulate the original, right? <g> I guess it'd work pretty well in this respect on a Series 7 too. And I did a better job than I figured on the screen positioning too - it centres correctly and it's not immediately obvious that it's not designed for use on a 640x480 screen. It deperately wants some colour - but this'd be an easy task to do (anybody wanna colour some graphics for me?).
Hmmm... Maybe it's time to resurect this one...

Malcolm, AFAIK the mc218WAP browser is not Psion compatible and you need the Psion browser. People who bought a Revo Plus received this on the PsiWin CD; I purchased a copy for my 5mx via www.psion.com - you
could try there perhaps...

Re.: TubeRoute - <G> is "smile" and <BG> is "big smile". Thanks for your answer. My usage of your program will certainly not be intensive enough to warrant any amount of time spent on further development. I meant the problem of your program indicating a change where there is no change needed.

Re. CF cards - Just f.y.i., the photography forums I am in contact with in general advice against using the IBM microdrive for serious photography work (professional) as they are not as safe to use as CF cards. Last month I bought 2x 1Gb CF-cards for Gbp 399.- (I am a part-time professional photographer and take weddings and other functions).

Re. Merlin - I use both Macro5 and Merlin as well, much the same way as you. The only problem I have with Merlin is that it leaks memory. After a while suddenly email will not function properly anymore and after closing down Merlin and starting it again the problem is solved and I regain over 1 Mb of space. I specially like the little clock it gives on the toolbar when taking the toolbar out of view to gain space on the screen.

It's included in the Revo, some newer 5mx and otherwise just sold by Psion. However, Psion Hungary offers a FREE download of the app. The setup guide is Hungarian but the program itself and the help-file are English. There also is a German version available (I don't know if that is legally free but if someone is interested I give a link to a Polish side that provides both versions).
Here comes just the 'official' link to Psion Hungary:
www.psion.hu/letoltes/revowap.zip
It works on revo and 5mx but I'm not sure, how it fits on a netbook or 7.
There are some other programs available here (www.psion.hu/letoltes) which are probably in English as well (PhoneMan emulator is one of them - didn't someone ask for an emulator version in some previous digest?)
Have a look, have a try, enjoy the program

I've had the same problem. I had to solve it by going back to printouts from Outlook (the synch between my Revo and Outlook works just fine, except for multiple email-addresses). Admittedly, this is sooooo 20th century!!!

I'm quite excited about these developments - clamshell, colour, wifi; seems a very possible replacement for my Revo (which I have to lovingly nurse, in its old age...). However, no instant-on, new OS (I've no clue about Linux), rudimentary translation into English, possible synching probs, high price, and, above all, a *very* short battery life may be a hindrance.

Now you're teasing. Elaborate, please elaborate.
I searched Google Groups and found a thread on uk.telecom.mobile where the initial poster failed to get WAP to work on his palm through a T68i on Orange GPRS

The initial poster failed to get his WAP browser to download any WAP pages and the advise made no difference to my success rate either.
So what are we not considering that we should? Could you post your setting please.

David, I started writing commercial software on the CBM Personal Computers, about 1979. I had a 'Dongle' that had to be connected to the back of the customer's PC to enable the program to run. This was the standard method used at that time. It allowed any PC, but only one PC, to run the software. Some had the program's serial number in the Dongle so that the disk and Dongle were a pair.
Later I used copy protected floppy master disks, that could only be installed for a certain number of times. So the customer could install say 1 2 or 3 extra times. This gave the customer protection as I controlled the number of times and the customer had time to request an extra installation when (s)he had a problem.
This protected me and the customer. The problem with protection that only runs on one machine ID is that the author is protected but the customer is not.
It would only require a few 'customers' to work out what bytes were holding the ID and as they would have the IDs, would be able to break any encryption.
This method reduces sales, especially on a mobile Psion that could be easily damaged, unlike a PC on a desktop.
Remember that much commercial software protection was deliberately made simple as the authors wanted the smaller companies to break it and therefore use it (hence making it very popular), while they charged the larger companies a very high price. The most popular program was an Apple print production program but I can't recall it's name just now.

Can you enlighten us as to why you find Palmtop Money so much better? This is also my favourite Psion app - very powerful yet so simple to use. My main problem with RMR Bank is that it's too slow - I don't want to sit there waiting for updating displays, dailog boxes saying "processing transactions - please wait" etc etc when all I want to do is quickly enter one transaction. Money is much faster and can do this almost instantaneously. My only gripe with Palmtop Money is it was never updated to colour for the S7/netBook machines, which gives it a rather spartan look unlike the beautifully colourful RMR Bank. I'd really love to see my overdrawn bank account display a deep red in Palmtop Money ;-)

If you have a PC you could access them with the Emulator.
Christian Roth wrote:

I just recently found a free file splitter for the PC. I've never used it, so don't know exactly what happens. I have a limit of 5MB I can e-mail, so I can't e-mail the original opl zip file for the emulator. If you want to try, Christian, I've made a set of split files which I could e-mail you and you can try to put them back together. The split program creates a .bat file. The instructions are to put all the split files and the .bat file into one folder, then start the .bat file (double-click on it?). There are 10 files in total so I'd have to send you 10 e-mails, each about 3MB.
If you want to try, contact me and I'll e-mail them to you. I've checked all the sites I knew about which had the emulator zip file, but can no longer find it.
Question for all you legal/moral experts - why can't I have the original zip file available for anyone on my web site? It was a free download. Why would Psion or Symbian care since they are no longer providing support?

Sanjay,
Ditto comments of Jim.
I use two devices - a Psion Revo and a Handspring Treo. I keep both Agenda and Contacts synchronized on both machines using Outlook.
I synch the device with the latest changes with Outlook then synch the other and both devices end up having the same Agenda and Contacts.
