Hi Ian
<<<I have a couple of rogue Fax accounts in Mail, which I'm not sure how to get rid of. They are only visible from Tools - Account Settings, but I would quite like to delete them if possible.>>>

Similar question was answered in Digest# 414-415 (Email Account)...
Make them "visible" by Shift+Ctl+L
Then select the account to be deleted & just press Delete, OK?

Re.: UPS5Digest - The domain was www.pinkworks.com/, which is now for sale. The full link was www.pinkworks.com/pda/s5list.html. I suppose the archive of the old digests was taken off as well. Your only chance is to find someone private who kept copies of this digest. I deleted my copies quite some time ago already, sorry.

Re.: Science OT - I think this discussion will go too far beyond the subject of this digest and therefore will not continue with it. Thanks for your interesting answer.

Is there any to save web pages with images using Web? I can save HTML pages and JPGs separately, but how do I view, while off-line, a web-page which has images? Is this even possible?
Thanks,

Dear David,
>>And, for that matter, anybody who uses broadband. The default settings shipped with WiFi routers, modems and access points and that defaulted in the software for the PC cards etc are very insecure!
A relatively simple solution especially for home users is to restict access by MAC addresses, an identifier that can be found on your WIFI card. No encryption is involved, it simply prevents another person, even if he is sitting in the same room as the router, from using the connection as his WiFi card is not part of the MAC addresses accepted by the router.
Warm regards,
Koi Hin

Subject: RE: Psion 5mx/Sony Ericsson P800
>>How far does the Symbian compatability extend ?<<
All file formats that are not using Unicode text are compatible, for instance MBM. Ironically, GDR fonts from 5mx can be used in P800, but not the other way around. It is also quite easy, due to compliance with vCard, to transfer the complete Contacts database between the two machines.
However, it almost ends with that as far as I know.
>>Does anybody know if it is possible to transfer/convert database file
on Psion 5mx to the above mobile phone ?<<
Unfortunately not. This is due to the database in 5mx being ASCII based and it being Unicode based in the P800. This despite the actual database application not really having changed at all from 5mx to P800. Same thing applies for all Symbian OS v6.0 and later machines. But it is possible to open a Nokia 9210 Communicator database from a P800 and vice verse. The only way you can practically get around this is to write your database into a flat text file on the 5mx and then write a similar routine to convert it back into a database on the P800, but it requires some programming.
Kind regards

Subject: EpocSync with Emulator and Psion 5MX
I've got EpocSync working well with the Symbian emulator on a WinXP laptop and my series 5MX, but when I try to sync a 'datafiles' folder in the emulator with a 'datafiles' folder on a CF card in the 5MX, the serial connection is being overrun and times out, presumably because the Psion cannot write to the card fast enough to handle the incoming data.
I've had to write the data from the emulator on to the Psion 'C' drive then copy it to the CF card which is a bit of a nuisance.
If anyone's familiar with EpocSync, are there any settings which can either slow down the output or make the emulator wait until the Psion is ready to accept more data?
Thanks,
Bill

Subject: Which GPS?
Dear All,
It strikes me that I'm missing out on a immensely useful side to a Psion PDA that I have so far left unexplored; GPS.
I've got the software (City and Route maps from TomTom etc), but not the hardware.
I've had a look on Expansys and the there are two Psion cables, the first is compatible with;
Garmin GPS 12 GPS Systems On Request £132.95
Garmin GPS 72 GPS Systems Est. 2 Days £145.45
Garmin GPS 76 GPS Systems On Request £167.45
Garmin GPS II+ Receiver GPS Systems Est. 2 Days £202.45
Garmin GPS V Deluxe GPS Systems Est. 3 Days £378.45
Garmin StreetPilot III Deluxe GPS Systems
is in stock, but is not compatible with eTrex.
The second (out of stock, but can get within 6 days - should I believe
this?) is compatible with only eTrex by the look of it. Both cost about the same.
I am a keen cyclist and camper, plus would like to use the GPS for in car navigation. I'm also getting into sailing, so would like it to be compatible with the massive range of nautical software out there for the Psion.
My question is has anybody got any advice as to which GPS unit I should buy based on my hobbies?
Any advice very kindly received,
Cheers,
Will.

Subject: Keys
Can anyone tell me whether it is possible to remove keyts from a psion 7? The space key has becomeunstuck at one end, it still works but if the key is depressed on the right side only, nothing happens as the left side rises too much. Can I just pull the key off and glue the left side back? Does anyone know where I might get a replacement key?

Subject: CFfail vs Psion Fail
I have my MBook and 5mx in a configuration that is working big time for me. I have a PC/MCIA to CF adapter plugged into my E drive with a 128 meg card loaded.
I have a 128 meg card loaded into my D drive.
I have all of my data files loaded into my D drive CF and all of my apps on my C drive.
When I get ready to leave the house, I move my main CF card from my MBook into my 5mx. When I return home and need to work in my studio, I move my card into my MBook. I do regular backups on my MBook, D drive to E drive. No synch problems whatever.
My thinking is that I have had many many Psion hardware failures and have yet to have a CF fail. If I get caught with a CF fail, I have my data safe on my
E drive. Bottom line for me is that using the E drive for backups takes away the fear of losing a CF in my D drive and I always have a full set of up-to-date data files with me.

I suspect he was arguing from a conclusion.
What is interesting to me is that a scientific study on the effects of prayer was reported in "Skeptical Inquirer" a year or so ago, where it was "proven" that prayer in a hospital setting by a group of devout worshipers had no
effect on patients who were not aware that they were being prayed
for.
However, when they changed the parameters, allowing the patients to know that they were being prayed for, a significant positive effect was noted.

This month yet again Crontab does not recognise the "workings days" as Monday to Friday and activates macros I clearly set to "working days" only. In the Control Panel the first day of the week is Monday and the working days are set from Monday to Friday.
Any ideas anyone ? Did you hear this before, Chris ? Could it have to do with the second fix I recently installed ?

Subject: Converting EPOC data file
Hi gang!
I have a small EPOC Data file which contains some words in Spanish with English translations. I would like to use this file in TestMe. Exporting from Data and importing to TestMe is no problem, but I always end up with the Spanish word in the first field of each record and the English one in the second. I'd like it the other way around so that TestMe gives me the English word and I have to try to remember the Spanish one.
I have tried altering the order the fields are displayed in Data, but when I export the file, I still end up with the Spanish word first. Any ideas?
Owen

Subject: RegEdit (legit use)
Hi Folks,
A software author and mathematician (David Clifton) wrote Spyder, a hypertext system for the 3a, and has now left the Psion world. The program was written as shareware and David neither has a Psion nor can he supply a registration code. He *definitely* doesn't mind this program being hacked, in fact he's rather amused at the prospect (he has written a program for his own academic use but it's a Window's program anyway).
As I cannot do this myself I tried using the only SIBO registration program I could find, RegEdit - but it won't work! It wants a file, \WORKSHOP\WS$WIN.DYL, and I can't find this anywhere. The only Psion warez group I know of (I got RegEdit from there) seems not to know where I can find it either.
I know some people (honest people) will think I'm trying to avoid paying for registrations and I can't prove them wrong - I can only hope that most will believe I'm not trying to avoid paying. For various platforms I've paid hundreds of GBP for shareware, often for programs that worked every bit as well without paying as with.
So any help would be useful and if the result is as good as I hope I'll ask David if the program can be redistributed as freeware - and I'm sure he will say "YES".
Incidentally, I have tried the only other such Hypertext program but I couldn't understand it - it spawned windows like an HTML pawn site and like those I couldn't close them (bad spelling deliberate).
Happy days,
Phil.

>> some WiFi enthusiasts can pick up signals from as far away as 3 miles <<
I have been using WiFi for one year now and still have not been able to find out why sometimes my signal is very strong and sometimes I probably get some type of interferences and the signal comes and goes. My connection is secured and passworded. Sometimes, the signal is so bad that I can nor use my laptop at the other side of my (rather small) flat. Otherwise I can use my connection on my Sony Clie UX-50 from the street below and I live on the top floor of a 4 storeys house. This is strange as the signal is supposed to travel better horizontally than vertically.
As you seem to be a wizard in WiFi connections, I should like to point you towards this article:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1544557,00.asp
And ask you what you think of it. I do not understand the end i.e.:
>> Append a space to this, followed by stop wzcsvc (don't forget the space before stop). If you like, repeat these steps and create another shortcut to start the service; just replace stop with start. <<
If you do understand this, could you please explain?

Subject: Mbook Internet Connection Impasse
I'm still having troubles connecting my Mbook to the internet. I get the gold card connection to dial up O.K. - and I supply my password once it connects to my isp. But then I get a message that reads:
Program Closed
Program: MsvServer
Reason Code: KERN-EXEC
Reason: 3
And I can't get any furher than that.
Meanwhile, I was able to get to my home base through Opera when I tried, thought the initial opera screen didn't read properly and sort of pulsed. But when I put my home address in under Open Web Page on the "File" menu, I do get connected using the gold card. So there must be something amiss with my e-mail settings. Can anyone suggest what to do? I CAN get e-mail through the my college web page, but it's very inconvenient.
My second problem arises when I try to connect with my 2Wire wireless router supplied by SBC Yahoo to handle my DSL line. I have a lucent orinoco silver card and set the modem for "rlan" at the suggestion of one of you. But I still can't connect with the 2wire router. The SBC- 2Wire help desk can't be of much help because they've never heard of EPOC, only PC and Mac. They did say that in order to connect using my Dell laptop, I would have to install the software that came with the modem. How could I possibly get that PC/Mac software onto the Mbook? I've the impression that I shouldn't need it - but should be able to connect and run a setup program that requires encryption codes with which they supplied me. Earlier responses from this list have suggested this should all be very simple and I'm hoping I'll find it so with proper advice. I'll be grateful for any advice any of you can supply.
Melvin
