Itamar: My mBook started doing what you reported a while ago: turning on by
itself. Over the last few months, I've tried to isolate the occurrences:
if I shut off just after an Alarm has woken me up, it turns itself back on in
a minute or so. If I wait several minutes after I have cleared the Alarm,
the mBook seems to behave. Strange to me. TG

Subject: two revos for sale
I've got two Psion Revos (8Mb model) for sale. Both work, but I have only one
battery pack. Both got cosmetic and/or physical damage.
Great for parts!
I have one cradle, one power adaptor, protective case and a three pack of
stylus pens.
Remember, both of them work. One seems not to have the dreaded software
battery problem. Holds the charge very well. The other has this problem.
Serious offers to my e mail: pedrobgil

Many years ago I had the same problem with my Psion 5mx. I complained to
Psion and they basically said that it wasn't guaranteed to be compatible with
a standard IR port on a PC. I asked what the point was of offering
a PDA with IR connection when it can't connect to a standard IR port on a PC?
They declined to answer.

Thanks Peter, that is exactly what I wanted! Actually, I was so exhausted
after managing to register (tax number, passport no. etc...) that my
inventive powers were worn out, and I missed servizi utenti <G>. Seriously,
that's great, thanks.

Street/Rout Planner both have .sis installers for the maps which can be
tgransferred per CF to the Psion. There is a document somewhere on the
original CD telling you which city in which .sis
A very slow and rather unstable solution under OS 9: the defunct MacConnect.
Also (perhaps) for OS X (didn't try it myself) Trafic, afaIk still alive
(shareware by Patrick Galmel - search for the adress in the Digest Archive if
you can't google him up).
Another solution, equally slow, is to install VirtualPC and the Windows
software in it on your Mac. VPC works very well otherwise.
I haven't yet tried the CityMaps .sis-salvaging tricks you have also
certainly read a few Digest issues ago.
Sorry for the possibly late reply. Hope it helps.

Subject: Synchronising Palm & Psion

I picked up a Palm Tungsten 2 for ?60 at a Dixons fire sale last week.
Icouldn't resist it; but now I am in Psion pergatory. I want to keep using
the psion 5mx, using the palm as a glorified address book and database.
Thethings I use most are data files for all my addresses and useful
references. But how the hell do I get data across to the palm in a form that
is stilldata looking? I have succeeded in transferring data files into excel,
but Iguess I need a Palm database program that can deal with importing.
Please, any suggestions? And I presume that trying to synchronise the palm and
thepsion via a PC is out of the question?
Hello Toby,
You can use MS Outlook as a go-between: assuming that you have it installedon
your PC, and as long as you have the Palm Hotsync software.
Otherwise, you need to use a Palm Database like Handbase. This is a
fullyfunctional relational database tool that I imagine is similar to PsiDat
interms of complexity. You can find it at http://www.ddhsoftware.com

For Itamar:
Thanks muchly for your responses to my last posting.
1. Yes - there's no nameplate in the mBook, as Sitashop have now told me.
2. The Copy & Paste oddity sounds like a bug. I'll put up with it.
3. You are, of course, quite right about dialling with the Gold Card. I'm
mortified by not having realised until yesterday that I ought to try not
waiting for dialtone - and worse, that it took an effort to remember that the
business is not in the Modem control panel but Dialling. All is now well.
The next step is to master wi-fi!

Subject: France Overlay, Backup with low battery, Serial to USB,
Answer to: Keith Giles
Re.: France Overlay - You have to search for the subjects in the index file
which you can download from the website. The index file however is not
updated with each digest but every 10 to 20 digests or so. Have a look at
digest 552 message by Arne Christensen.
Answer to: Armin Podtschaske
Re.: Backup with low battery - I beg to differ with you. I seem to remember
the discussions from a long time ago that it would not have been feasible
to actually put a voltage meter in the 5MX/S5 and that therefore the voltage
was calculated by the Psion. I would have to search deep to try and find
anything about it again, but maybe someone else remembers something about
this ?
Answer to: Philip Carlisle & David Steer
Re.: Serial to USB - Thanks for your reactions. I installed the adaptor and
it works fine with Psiwin. However, it does not work with MochaPPP. It
makes a connection but stops working after abt. 200 K has been moved between
them. I tried to reduce the speed but that did not help. Any ideas ?

(until they expire, as I'm now retired, so can't honestlyresubscribe) I
always look through them for Psion related articles.
I wonder if you are familiar with this excellent service by Google. Youenter
a topic of interest to you, say 'Psion' or 'Epoc' or whatever, andGoogle will
send you any and all Web articles about it. I like it very much, though at
times the amount I get can be overwhelming.
