Suggest that you remove the file association rather than changing it
back to the Psion, by selecting the Delete option once you have
highlighted the SIS file extension via Windows Explorer> Tools> File
Types. The next time you double click on a SIS file it will ask you
which program you want to open, so you can pick Nokia or Psion,
unfortunately it will then be associated with whichever program you
select.

Subject: Have used a 9300 !!!
I borrowed a friend's 9300 at the weekend. One of the thought's foremost on
my mind was: Should I have waited? Will my P910i ever be the same again. I
wonder how much I'd get for an immaculate P910i on Ebay ...
Anyway, although I was mightly impressed with the 9300, I think, on
balance, I made the right choice. The 9300 is really a very impressive
system, it works very well and is very stable. It comes with all the (now)
usual office document readers and POP3 email client. As I said in a
previous email on the 9500, it also has - what I would consider to be -
proper multitasking. The screen was very clear and easy to read. From my
limited use, I'd also say it has a much better battery life than the P910i.
Certainly I was using GPRS a lot and this seemed to have little impact on
the battery - something that cannot be said for the P910. This all means
most would consider it the spiritual sucessor to the 5MX. So that's all the
good news...
Although it is narrower than the P910i, it's quite a bit longer. Overall,
it's just as pocketable. I found the browser worked well with the wider
screen (640), but also found it painfully slow on some sites - e.g. hotmail.
I didn't get on very well with the keyboard and would imagine that even the
old Psion 3 series would beat it hands down on usability. Combining this
with it's lack of touchscreen, it made certain tasks quite difficult -
certainly using the joystick to highlight an icon on a webpage was
something I thought was very difficult but then maybe this gets easier with
time and personalised configuration.
It has a Real audio player but I also failed to get any .ra files on the
BBC website to work; alternatively, highlighting a .smil file caused the
device to download the .smil file and then ignore it. I thought this
feature would allow a user to listen to streaming audio as it does on a PC
but maybe I was missing something. In any case, GPRS streaming of real
audio files would make this a very expensive radio ...
My friend bought his on expansys. Late last week, they had 100 in stock.
Today the number is 28 so they are moving quickly - at EUR740 a pop!

Subject: RE: P910i email
I regularly send email to the email address<address truncated>on my P910i and
it works fine. I'm also copying this email to your work address so you will
know directly if it has worked. The only thing I can think of is that you
are picking up your work address from your contacts list and that maybe
there is something funny in there. You could try emailing this email
address from your PC-based PIM (outlook, notes, whatever) to look for any
errors and/or typing in the address manually on your P910i. Of course, you
have probably tried both of these already ...
Just had a thought, what version of firmware are you on? Can't say I have
heard of the problem you mention, but you never know. Compare your version
of firmware with what you see at the site:
http://uiqzone.org/software/firmware_p910.php
How do you like the P910?

Thanks Marcus. I was wondering the same thing as I was reading it--what
happens to my Nokia .sis then??? I will look at it and see. There is no
problem putting the .sis file, using my Pswin, on my MC 218 directly. I
just can't do it by clicking on it on my Laptop and have it go to my MC
218. I will have a look at it. It would be ok if you can switch
associations with what ever machine you are working with at the time.
Thanks,
Bob

You probably already have, but why not just check the backup battery is not
dead? If it is completely flat, that would cause the machine to not
recognise it... it is not expensive to buy a new one... Simon

Interesting quirk and not one that I have experienced with my P910i. I
have addresses both with and without a dot prior to the @ and have no
problem. Have you checked that you have the most recent version of the
firmware at the Sony Ericsson site? As each mobile network provides their
own modified version of the P910i firmware, it may be that your version
has a small bug. Incidentally, I'm using the Orange version.

Answer to: Bob
Re.: Nokia PC Suit - Yes, I have the same problem with my P910. You can
still do it by right clicking on the connection bar at the bottom right and
than choose "open with" or something like that after which you can choose
whether to use the Nokia or the Psion one. I am on holiday so cannot give
you the exact details.
Answer to: J R Groeger
Re.: netBook back-up battery recognition - A simple solution. Put a small
piece of cardboard on top of the battery and close the flap. It will press
the battery down a little more and the contact will be ok again.

Other issues aside (such as permission from TomTom for example), Keith
mentioned this to me via email already and the problem is that the files so
far take up 960Mb. At best, I could probably offer about 500Mb online
without having to pay rather more to my ISP for extra server space...
Anyone got a lot of server space they don't mind sharing??
Best regards,
Martin

Subject: Problems with Backup Batteries
I had a similar problem recently with my 5mx. The system advised me that
the back up battery needed replacement so I bought two back up batteries of
the same well know brand but kept getting the message 'back up batteries
need replacing'. I tried all the old tricks including the card at the back
but no joy. Totally frustrated I started all over again and then it came to
me..... I switched the brand of backup battery and lo and behold the system
worked. It turned out that the batteries from the first brand were actually
dead! I was amazed to find that even though I have bought two separate
batteries, still in date and sealed they both were dead. Try a different
brand and see what happens its worth a try. Good luck, Brendan from warm
and sunny Dubai.

Subject: Mentor
Hi Folks,
Ian (Colvin), I've just looked at Mentor for the first time. There is a
Yahoo group, http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wuli/, that might be able to
help you. Though it's not very active I don't think it's quite moribund
yet. There you might be able to reach Ben. Thornton.
A free alternative would be Lexden's Lifeplan and Mark Esposito's Notepad
should now be free according to him, They're both on Martin Guthrie's
Pscience5 site (http://www.pscience5.net) and I'm sure there must be a
suitable, and free, Time Planner/Manager as there are several.
Happy days,
Phil.

Subject: Re: Reregistering Mentor (how to get a code)
To Chris and Phil,
Thank you both for your responses to my question. I have sent Ben another
e-mail via the list and shall see whether I get a response. It doesn't hurt
to try another avenue of approach ...
On that principle I have tried going through my backed up Mentor files and
one by one copying them into my system folder in the hope of finding which
one contains my 'lost' registration code. (I must have the thing somewhere
among these backups, but how to find it?) Thus far no luck. Chris,
presumably (as you clearly know a lot about registration keys) you might
know which file I need, or perhaps you can tell me I'm barking up the wrong
tree if this is not a viable way of recovering the code.
I have at least discovered why I don't have the code saved with the
original e-mail. I lost a whole stack of e-mails when my university
terminated an e-mail account I used to have before I could back everything
up elsewhere.
For Phil, who hasn't used Mentor before, I rate it very highly as a
brilliant piece of software that needed just a little more development ...
It was quite different in principle to the two programs you mentioned.
There was a very good review of it I read somewhere, but I can't seem to
find it now.
Thanks again.

Subject: Program Closed error
I've been having problems with my nB. An interaction with SaveMail and
Chris's Email indenting macros.
The attachment folder suddenly changed from E: to C:, although a re-run of
the setup did not provide a solution. Chris's macros kept giving a error
and at times the clipboard copy reported 'in use'! Many soft resets were done.
I then did a couple of OS from CF reboots and only installed Macro5 and
SaveMail. This did solve the problem.
However Email has now on 4 occasions given the error.
Program Email
Reason code MSGL
Reason number 2
I've no idea what this is caused by, but having just deleted 80 odd junk
e-mails twice it closed Email before I could close the mailbox.
When reinstalling I copied my mail folder before the reboot and back again
after. The apps were sis installed.
Anyone any idea, if the error could be caused but a corrupt Email data file.
My nB has been behaving as if it was a windows PC!
Alan.
