Subject: Hotspot Finder and Fairway

I seem to be having a bit of trouble with some software on my 9500, namely Hotspot Finder and Fairway.  Hotspot Finder did work for a bit but now I actually want to go ahead and register it it won't run!  I get the following message when trying to launch it: "Program closed, Reason Code Connector-1, Reason Number 8".  Very helpful!  Any ideas?  Also, when I try to launch Fairway I get the following message: "mediaserveropx.opx - OPX does not exist" and that too just closes.  I have the OPL runtime installed (v1.53) so again, any advice?  I must say Hotspot Finder looks a really useful app (much better than having to use the built-in WLAN finder manually) and Fairway looks like a lot of fun for a golfer like me!

With this new PC model comes no serial connection, so I bought and installed the Belkin serial to USB PDA adapter, F5U109ea. It was mapped by the PC onto COM4.

I used to run PsiWin 2.3.1 under Windows 2000 and thought it might work with XP as well. It did not. >>

I also bought the Belkin box of rubbish.  The only way I could get it to work was using a very slow com speed - too slow to be of any use.

I bought the Clove device and it works very well with XP.

Wajira,

I'm using ABP (from www.freepoc.org) - look under the communicator section on the software search page. It works well and the help file does discuss importing and possibly synching with Quicken. Its not the JABP or JABPlight versions.

Its freeware (thanks to all at freepoc.org). You will also need the OPL runtime for N9500 & this is available on the web.

At least some simpler email programs for desktop computers don't provide support for "archiving" (i.e. exporting) of emails, so I don't see why this is a sudden 'must have' feature for all PDAs.  AFAIK, it was only required on Psions because the Email program became really slow when it stored lots of emails...

There is absolutely no technical reason for this to be the case, but it can happen by bad design, if no real thought is put into the how messages are stored/retrieved.  Hopefully Nokia/Symbian took note of the all the complains about Email slowing down, and rewrote the relevant part of the "engine" used by the Email app...

In my opinion, there is only option; ABP by Malcolm Bryant. I have used ABP for very many years and was always delighted with its functionality. In comparisons with it's rivals, its speed is on an entirely different level. It can also import/export data in either CSV or quicken format. Oh - and did I mention its **FREE** ?

For the 9?00 you will need to
first download the OPL emulator @ http://opl-dev.sourceforge.net. ABP itself is available @  http://freepoc.de

Answer to: Alan Morris

Re.: Using a Psion with broadband - Yes, there are two ways to do this, but not with Psiwin. The first way is to use MochaPPP to connect your Psion directly to the internet connection of the PC. I do this both at home and at work and it works a treat. The settings I use are as follows :

Internet service set to "direct", called DS5PPP
Account : tick manual login
Addresses : tick get from the server
Login : nothing
Advanced : tick allow plain text authentication

Modem set to 115,700 speed and "cable"
Initialisation : nothing
Advanced : flow control none and modem type fixed line

The second way is to connect directly to the internet via a wireless card to my wireless network. I use the standard setting under Ethernet for the Cisco card. The first option above I use at work, the second at home. Both work equally well.

Re.: Clarinet ethir-lan - See my message aboe how to connect to a wireless network. You can connect your nBook via a wireless card straight to your base station without the need to go via the Apple.

Hiya,

symbianware have just released 'Message Storer' for the new communicators, this will let you export all your messages.

I have used it since last August on my p800 and can thoroughly recommend it.

Regards,
Mike Dyer (warming to the idea of a 9500 next time)
