Subject: Giving up on the phone manufacturers, buying a 5mx...
I've been nursing my 3c along for about 5 years now, certain that Nokia or someone would come out with a decent replacement for it, and I wouldn't have to drag along two devices. I had high hopes for the 9300, but Nokia have made some incredibly stupid design choices, already mentioned here.
So I've decided to buy a 5mx, instead. If I'm dragging two devices around anyway, I've got to have something that can compose and receive email while I'm away for multiple days. My current plan
is to get a second hand one on ebay and then possibly upgrade
to a 5mx pro refurb from Clove.
In poking around the web, it appears that there have been a lot
of problems with writing CF cards on the 5mx. Are these problems sorted? Is there a max size CF that is usable? I'm a big believer in storing my important files (in particular, Agenda) on CF ...
Thanks,
chris

Subject: ISP Question & oops, there went the Treo
Is there any ISP other than CompuServe that will allow BBC using the Psion Email ap? In a snit, I let my CompuServe Classic go. Tried to re-order and the people I made contact with have no idea what Classic is and assure me that I need the latest and greatest.
After raving about how bullet proof the Treo is (have dropped it many times without problems) because it is so light, it fell out of my shirt pocket.
When I picked it up the screen was toast (cracked toast). I back the puppy up on a regular basis and found I could read the part of the screen necessary to drive one last backup to the card.
I decided to go back to using the 5mx as my away from home pocket machine.
All was well until two days when my PsiWin stopped working. I've been fighting that (and still am) and will off-load a lot of unused programs off of the Compaq and then unload PsiWin, then use RegClean, then reload PsiWin, and see what happens.
I found myself yearning for the form factor of the Treo and the ease of Hotsync (always works). So I went ahead and ordered up the Palm Tungsten C, which is a Treo 90 on steroids (thumboard that really works plus decent processor plus 64 megs vs 16 megs).
Will try some of the apps on the C that didn't work that well on the Treo 90 (WordSmith + hundreds of files) and relegated the Treo to PIM functions only, and will report back.
(darn, if only they had solved the battery problem on the Revo)
(darn, if only they had made PsiWin bulletproof)

Kevin,
How true. A short while ago, I had to retire my Revo because of battery problems and the cost of having the Revo repaired overseas. It was cheaper for me to buy an HP iPaq with coloured screen.
The iPaq runs on 1 full charge for the whole week of work and sometimes even more. So no worry for me about AA or AAA. In fact, I have a USB cable that charges the iPaq off my laptop (or desktop) whenever the charge goes low - no need for a bulky charger, just a simple cable. And if the battery every goes "dead", there is a source of new rechargeable batteries that you can install yourself.
And I am amazed at the quality of the color - my digital camera photos come our in very fine resolution on the iPaq when I view them from the SD memory card. And the SD card is another reason for my satisfaction with my new device.
And I love the size - I can easily slip it into my shirt pocket.
Of course, I still miss the excellent software of the Psion OS. The Palm and Pocket PC software (I've tried both systems) are not as stable and trouble-free as those developed for Psion devices.
